I did have customs knives made for me, and they are absolutely perfect, but costly, and I need to get some for my sons and daughters now, who are older and moved out. I did train them, but again, this is real life, an attack by surprise from the rear allows for 6 seconds before the lights go out, a bit longer for someone who understands and stays relaxed and moves quickly, but not much. I find a small blade is the absolute best, it allows speed, enough edge to attack hands and arms , and long enough to cause damage to the leg of the attacker as well. Hopefully disabled at this point, but if not, they will have to ket go, allowing for a longer blade or firearm to be used.

100% agree, I used to carry folders. One of the pet peeves for me in most knife training courses is they NEVER go over the ABC's of deployment. I teach both folder and fixed blade defense. my personal preference is fixed blade. One thing to consider, a short fixed blade ,,,attach a piece of thin kevlar cordage to the end of the sheath...you can pocket the knife in a front or back pocket. loop the cordage around your belt. when you pull the knife the sheath comes off the knife and cordage retains the sheath.. With some practice the kevlar cordage can also be used as a control mechanism...this method allows for better concealability for shorter fixed blade knives.
Great video! I also like the suspenders because they keep your pants up without having to tighten your belt to the point you can't breathe or move well. Most men by the age of 35 or so have a belly that is bigger around than their hips. So, when your pants slide down to your hips, they can literally fall to the ground. Saw this happen at a Halloween party to a guy with a semi-large belly. He was totally embarrassed. I like to hike a lot and never go hiking without my suspenders. I know my pants are going to stay up and I don't need to tighten my belt. Another benefit, any firearm fully loaded, even the smallest semi-automatic, is heavy enough to want to cause you pants to slide down. Suspenders enable someone to carry a full size 1911 inside or outside carry without it weighing down your pants.
I am so glad you said that about the neck knife. Never understood that concept. I carry weak side appendix scout, that way, it's accessible with either hand.
I just found your channel and became an instant subscriber. I used to carry a double edged SOG Pentagon, then 2 years ago I had a stroke and am in a wheelchair most of the time. Let me tell you from experience, a double edge is a damn good way to cut yourself! (Done it a few times.) Flippers and OTF's take too long to deploy in a self defense scenario. I'm now in the process of trying to find __that perfect single edge_ to serve as a backup to the revolver I carry (remember, stroke. The left hand is useless. It's difficult to operate a slide one handed), so I've amassed quite a collection. I most definitely *_DO NOT_* recommend carrying your gun or knife in your EDC bag if you are in a wheelchair; *1)* *_You are in a wheelchair_* The critters will see you as an easy target. You don't want to be digging in a bag for your weapon. *2)* If said critter gets your bag, you are now defenseless. I say this from experience. I've had to use a knife twice to get a critter off me since the stroke. The surprise and shock on their face was priceless. Weak side cross draw if you are in a wheelchair is definitely the way to go.
Just saw your demo. Nice job! I like to cary my fixed blade at the center of my body. The same as you. I move my belt buckle over and skip one loop to the left. The belt buckle is now off center so my knife fits flat on my belt. This helps in two ways. One it keeps the knife and sheath flat and when you cary your side arm the handle of the knife is not to close to your pistol messing with your draw of the knife. This helps me with my right hand draw. Thanks for the demo.

My favorite way to carry a small fixed blade is vertical on my suspenders. I don't know anyone else that does it, but I find it is the best of both worlds. I can get it easily, and its nearly invisible to others. I mount it just above the adjustment clip, which makes it stay put very well. I also don't know a lot of people in their thirties like myself that wear suspenders at all, but I like them sooo much more than a belt. maybe they will have a comeback someday.
I wear the suspenders that hook over your belt everyday. I keep my belt looser so it doesn't take cinching it down to keep all the heavy stuff I carry up. I don't strap my blade to them though, might have to try that.
I am 25. Carpenter and welder. I used to wear suspenders. I prefer them over a belt. But once I started to conceal carry, i had to go back to a belt, to give some rigidity to my waist line.
You should try those Dickies suspenders that slide over your belt. They're pretty special. Let's you wear your belt but keeps your pants around your waist.
We haven’t added the new style clips to the website yet, but if you want the IWB vertical, add the multi clip to the cart and put it in the notes . Thank you
Thank you for the awesome vid, Brother! Yes, for me being a man of small/short stature, I have to play around the many options that is optimal concealment for me, along with right type of clothing to not print. However, i do find a the cross draw (as you shown) as effective for me since it allows for ambi-deployment. Another one is the pocket carry just like you have it. Again, thank you! SFMF!!!
What kind of suspenders are you wearing? I had to wear suspenders to support my duty rig back in my police days. I could use suspenders for my edc set up to help manage belt sag from my sidearm. Any recommendations?
Do gun and knife shows have to conceal when at times they would be taking a ariplane excursion flight to a different part of the world or state or do they even take airplane trips.😮😊
I need a small fixed blade to scout carry on my person. I’m 140 lbs and carry firearm appendix and want a fixed on small of back sideways any recommendations for a smaller knife that you make
Scout carry is the way I feel more secure if your in a tussle, it could be easier to get to your back waist line than the front. And yes only fixed blades, pref full tang! Great video!! What type of iwb gun holster is that?
Now I got a good question I carry two blades on my belt left side and right side but there not in a cross draw position .there are in a position for my hand to go straight down and draw the knife out and I spending the same time just like the cross draw
Cross draw is just my preference for a few reasons. For me cross draw is less about speed and more about visibility and defense posture. Cross draw is typically in a location on your belt that is unused, which allows for side carry of other items, cross draw prints less, also when drawing a blade from cross draw whether your drawing weak or strong hand your hands are more in a position to defend your vitals front the front. Vertical in the 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock (where i carry other CCW items) position can expose your torso more, is slower to get the blade in front of you, and telegraphs your movements more. It isn't "wrong" to not carry cross draw it just suits some defense styles better than others. You're wise to train with drawing from what is most comfortable for you.
@@TkellKnives thank you for your help I'm going to try cross draw for a week and see how I feel .I been training and carrying my blade the way I do for years but this will be interesting
Maybe just switch up your weak side blade for a cross draw blade, and see how that goes. Just incase you need it you'll have your trained way as back up in case you hate cross draw. I'm the same way. I feel like an alien when I try new carry styles.
I carry a small fixed kbar last ditch knife necklace style literally for what it’s intended for-last ditch. Meaning I’m on my back (or some other undesirable position) and can’t get to anything else. Another occasion I might do so is if I’m jogging outside. I agree it’s not a good way to go.
Folders have a place for general task and some companies make some good blades. Myself and many other people choose to carry a blade for more than general task...like defense. For a defensive application deployment time is slower on a folder, they mount in your pocket which limits accessibility to only the side your carrying it on, if the folder doesn't lock up all the way in the heat of the moment the consequences to your fingers can be devastating. Many a person has lost fingers due to a lock failing. Folders are typically horribly balanced. A fixed blade has less failure points, can be accessed both strong and weak handed, is better balanced (mine are at least) and generally are more robust for heavy duty task like prying.
This is great, but i need something for carrying at night while jogging. Arm mount carry? Got any ideas? Kind of like mp3 player or phone on the arm. ???
@@TkellKnives i came up with an old wrist guard, forearm support, with a rigid peice of aluminum , like a soft cast, with velcro straps, remove the aluminum inside very dense black woven fabric stuff, which I made a dagger around 7 inches long slides in perfectly, on top my forearm. Great video and very informative. Thank you! What carry style would you recommend for someone who wears denims and tucked in buttondown shirts for daily wear? Currently I carry Spyderco folders but I would prefer to carry a fixed blade instead.
I like to dress clean and trim, dress causal trousers with a tucked in shirt. Unless it is blistering hot I wear a light sport coat or a light waist coat (vest) which covers the handles protruding from various "inside my trousers, clipped to my belt" positions. If I have to go in somewhere that I might remove my jacket, everything I carry quickly unclips and hides in the jacket pockets. If it is too hot for a jacket then it is a couple of smaller knives in the larger, loose pockets of the dress pants. Denims are usually too tight a fit for concealing anything. Maybe ditch the denims and upgrade to business casual. Boot carry is an option to ...
I'd like the idea of cross draw however I cannot carry a fixed blade on my belt line without its standing out like a sore thumb I have tried many different styles and types they all stick out too far I don't have any belt overhang to hide it lol
That's why I carry both fixed and folding, fixed attached to my back belt loop and my folder in my right "pocket watch" pocket (as they call it, which is the small pocket at the top of your other pocket) Fixed for self defense and folding for other task
@Tkell Knives my folder is a kershaw volt ss, and then my fixed blade is a cheap one from Walmart just because I haven't found one I like the feel of in my budget
I have always used paracord tied off to the belt and then. tied to the sheath. It's a short piece of rope. to where I can tuck the blade in my waistband. Don't have to worry about it dropping. And then when I deploy the blade, I just have to. grab the knife and pull. it. I just have to grab the handle of the blade and deploy the rope will hold the sheath back. Just a simple setup I use for pretty much. any situation. on any fixed blade with a sheath.
If we are dealing with a backup knife weak side is OK, but not a cross-draw. You need to bear in mind that your strong arm most likely will be busy and you'll only have your weak arm available. Additionally, a cross-draw can easily be blocked resulting in no strong arm, no main weapon, no backup weapon.
This is your personal opinion. Most people in the market already have a primary weapon strong side, your belt line on strong side is prime real estate. Also having a blade accessible with a weak hand reverse draw is exactly why you need crossdraw in the event that your strong side is impeded.
@@TkellKnives it all depends, as they say. By the way, have you noticed that you have to use both hands to get to the weapon whenever you wear a loose T-shirt to cover your belt line in the first place? My take on it - use your pockets, not waist line. You'll save those precious milliseconds.
@@Victorsbzh you’ll have to use both hands regardless what you mean? If you’re already in a situation that requires your dominant hand to be used.. you got the knife on your strong side. What if you’re on the ground? You can’t get into your pocket without getting caught in a shoulder lock or leaving yourself defenseless. They make pocket knives for a reason.. this is a fixed blade. You lack visualization and understanding of the cross body if it don’t make sense to you. I got pocket knives. A cross body carry with Spartan blades ronin Shinto. Weakside crossdraw all day! Good video brother👍🏽
Same here brother. Thank you 👊🇺🇸
I carry weak side tip down at about 9:00. It draws into a reverse grip or if need be I can cross draw with my dominant hand.
thats the way Im doing it.
Best knives I ever got. Love it.
Thank you sir
@@TkellKnives Yup been using those for a decade or so. Under my untucked shirt. love them!
You will want to avoid having your suspenders grabbed, of course.
This might be a dumb question but where can I find the other style clips for the sheaths?
We haven’t added the new style clips to the website yet, but if you want the IWB vertical, add the multi clip to the cart and put it in the notes . Thank you
So if one has a belly how do you put the knife in appendix carry without your stomach pushing out the handle
If it's along your belt line horizontal it shouldn't be a problem. I happen to have a belly
@@TkellKnives looking at it through my eyes your belly is perfectly flat and ripped remember I’m blind lol thank you so much
Thank you for the awesome vid, Brother! SFMF!!!

Great presentation, thanks for sharing.
What kind of suspenders are you wearing?
I had to wear suspenders to support my duty rig back in my police days. I could use suspenders for my edc set up to help manage belt sag from my sidearm. Any recommendations?
Disregard, i see from a comment perry suspenders.
Possibly wear shoulder holsters with belt straps?
Very informative, thank you. Looking to add fixed blade to my EDC. Perry suspenders and belt support my EDC 😊
Thank you sir.
Please explain the concept of being vertical or horizontal?
Vertical and horizontal aren’t concepts, they are directions of orientation. I’m not sure what the question is.
Do gun and knife shows have to conceal when at times they would be taking a ariplane excursion flight to a different part of the world or state or do they even take airplane trips.😮😊
This is a great video-got to get more TKell knives!
Thank you Bother! I know a guy that has a few he’d be willing to part with
I need a small fixed blade to scout carry on my person. I’m 140 lbs and carry firearm appendix and want a fixed on small of back sideways any recommendations for a smaller knife that you make
If you like ring blades, the nightstalker. The Combatant for non-ring.
Scout carry is the way I feel more secure if your in a tussle, it could be easier to get to your back waist line than the front. And yes only fixed blades, pref full tang! Great video!! What type of iwb gun holster is that?
How do you do it in California?
Be a criminal
How do you get all the way under that belly for a cross-draw?
How do you be a decent human?
Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Does the night stalker blade length measure 3” or less? I live in IL, and I believe they have a 3” limit in the state, 2.5” limit in Chicago.
I believe it’s 3 1/4. I’m working on a shorter blade version. The nightshades would be in that limit. And the Nightguard is 3’

You are very welcome.
I'm confused about how a horizontal blade is referred to as vertical carry. Did I miss it?
I think it’s fairly obvious that I misspoke
What’s your take on Emerson opening folders? I’m using a cz pt-10s and a Spyderco matriarch 2. I should probably get a fixed blade.
Thank you very much!
This is great, but i need something for carrying at night while jogging. Arm mount carry? Got any ideas? Kind of like mp3 player or phone on the arm. ???
Hmm I need to think about that. I have a DCC clip that hooks on very tight for jogging shorts.
I can easily draw using thumb and index, by pinching the butt end of handle which has rounded knobby twin symmetrical ends. Handle is also very flat thin on the 1 side.
Nice!
Excellent tips and demonstration. California sucks for concealing.
Thank you Sir. I hear that all the time about carrying in CA

What knife and holster is the one hooked under the belt?
Which is the knife called with the finger ring I believe it was the second knife you showed?
That’s the Nightstalker. Currently sold out but the Nightstalker CG is in stock. tkellknives.com/products/nightstalker-cg
I always carry a fixed blade horizontal cross draw. That way I can get it with either hand. Great video!
I second that carry style. Thank you
Really like your topic got a knife for Christmas carry everyday owb plain view no body says anything. Went to a mall in a city never thought anything about it. I got escorted out wasn't even allowed to conceal it on my pocket after they knew it was there.
Man that is insane. Things are crazy these days
Great video and very informative. Thank you! What carry style would you recommend for someone who wears denims and tucked in buttondown shirts for daily wear? Currently I carry Spyderco folders but I would prefer to carry a fixed blade instead.
I like the combatant with a DCC 5.1 HLRu.
Some of the IWB clips might work for you. I do have thousands of skinny customers that have been able to wear my blades CCW
Can you hook it to the Suspenders
You could but it would be difficult to draw since they are stretchy
What knife are you using in your video and sheath?
Do left side sheath
All of my sheaths are ambidextrous
This video should be titled FAAFO. Great training vid.

Would this setup (The horizontal) work on a Motorcycle/Bicycle?
I have lost pocket knives and I don't want a vertical holster when I ride my bicycle.
It most definitely would. I have a lot of customers that wear them scout carry (horizontal on your back) when riding.
That's why I carry both fixed and folding, fixed attached to my back belt loop and my folder in my right "pocket watch" pocket (as they call it, which is the small pocket at the top of your other pocket)
Fixed for self defense and folding for other task
That’s very common. I still carry the piranha which is my small pocket sized fixed blade.
@Tkell Knives my folder is a kershaw volt ss, and then my fixed blade is a cheap one from Walmart just because I haven't found one I like the feel of in my budget

How about appendix firearm and appendix knife carry? Is it doable?
It is. static line deep carry works well
I have always used paracord tied off to the belt and then. tied to the sheath.
What was that in the left pocket?
Very insightful video. I got to get one of these, but what knife do you recommend for weak side cross draw?
I personally go between the Raider and the Striker. The Nightstalker is my best seller. The ring helps with fast deployment and retention.

What knife did you use as the picture for the thumbnail of this video? Looks kind of like the Raider but different handle texture and shorter blade
It is a Raider with smooth micarta. I don’t offer the smooth anymore. It was rarely ordered and keeping it on hand didn’t make much sense.
I do agree with several of your points on this. Great feedback!

But how about a video showcasing concealment options for larger EDC knives- 8 to 12 inch blades.
I personally wouldn't classify 8-12 inch blades as EDC so I cant recommend any ways to carry concealed.
@@TkellKnives that’s the point I am trying to make- if you COULD carry a “large” blade, you would! Whether that means concealed or not, a “ large “ knife would then be considered EDC. I personally live in “remote” Alaska. But believe me, even here we have tree huggers and anti gunners. So I keep my 9 1/2” Bowie concealed. With a big knife, no need for three knives and a prybar! I have used my Bowie to hammer nails , pry open doors, even carved out a door to facilitate a code lockable door handle. And I still pull it out to cut my steak at the local events. I love the looks I get! The men I sit with love it, but it also gives reason for the tree huggers to hate, unfortunately. Those that scream tolerance have none.
I just wanted to know the knife make and model in the thumbnail

@@TkellKnives thankyou, I was not aware tkell was a knife brand, just thought it was your channel name, there's some other knives I gotta get first but that one definitely catches my eye, she ain't cheap though, might get one eventually! Also you guys should definitely make a knife with a 6-7" blade, drop point, full or partial flat grind, non tanto, idk how well they'd se|l but that's definitely the kind of knife I'm into, kind of along the lines of the cold steel srk but not the srk, just a proper combat knife that's good for general purpose and would also be a highly effective fighting knife, something a little larger than the srk but not as large as the esee 6 or ontario rat 7
