    I never thought I'd edc a fixed blade but I've been carrying a mora Robust everyday for the last 2 years. I clip the sheath to my belt but have the rest of the sheath tucked into my back pocket next to my wallet and I never notice it until I need it and it's completely hidden if your shirts not tucked in but super fast and handy to use. Plus I'm a mechanic and beat the hell out everything including a knife so a cheap but super durable fixed blade is really nice. I also love the fact that my entire front pocket is free because I no longer carry a sturdy folding knife

  • @MatthewMorse
    @MatthewMorse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I'd love to see a video where you show how folks are carrying these. Back pocket, front pocket, waistband... Just to sort of show how they might print during normal tasks like working, shopping, playing with the kids at the park, etc. If not for all of the knives, then at least some suggestions on how you can discretely carry a fixed blade knife.

    Another way to consider carrying a fixed blade if you need a low profile is lanyard waistband carry. CRKT's video on the Burnley Obake has a good demonstration as that knife was designed for that style of carry, but it works for pretty much any knife with a riveted sheath.
    All you do is tie a length of cord to the tip of the sheath, loop the cord around your belt, and slip the knife into your waistband or pocket. When you draw, the sheath should clear your body before the knife comes out, making it safe to draw quickly and re-sheath without stabbing yourself in the side.

    Carry my Kwaiken Fixed with an Ulti 2.2 inside the waistband here in Germany 🇩🇪 And it is legal. No discussions about one hand opening or locking knives anymore 🙃!

    • @JamesTheAxeThrower

      They finally got rid of some of the ridiculous knife laws? When did that happen?

    • @Tim1768-r5r
      @Tim1768-r5r 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JamesTheAxeThrower No, they did not, but you have three options in Germany: 1. fixed blade below 12cm, 2. one-hand-opening and non-locking or 3. two-hand opening and locking . (locking and one-hand is prohibited). Problem 1: you can open every knife with one hand. Problem 2: recently they decided, that even a UKPK is „locking“, because your finger prevents it from closing. Conclusion: __Ever__ folder is locking and one-hand-opening 🙁🙁🙁 (if your officer wants it that way). So, if you want to be on the save side: Carry a 11,5 cm fixed blade.

But it forced me into buying the bushcrafter. I can't justify 150 160 for such a small knife. When their giant bushcrafter was 200. Always wanted a bushcrafter. But damn. I’ve been EDC’ing a Benchmade 200 Puukko in a custom kydex sheath for about the last year and a half. It’s been a joy to carry and use, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly! The only thing that ~might~ make it better is if somebody were to start producing thinner, aftermarket, micarta scales for it. That said, the factory Santoprene handle is very comfortable and perfectly serviceable.

    I gotta say I usually tend to go for the tactical aesthetic but that skipjack is an absolute beauty! The color scheme and the materials work so well together, kind of colorful without a hint of tackiness. By the way one brand to look out for if you want a decent and pocketable fixed blade for dirt cheap is Schrade. They use AUS8 and AUS10A steel which in my opinion is just fine for a knife like that and their cheapest neck knife cost around 20 bucks. Not quite premium but does the trick.

    I EDC the Ka Bar Wrench Knife, I did have a deep slip sheath made for it by a leather crafter. It is so thin with no scales you barely notice it. It does dull quick, but you can bring it back to shave sharp in 10 minutes on a wet stone. ** Also IT'S A THICK BOY! The blade stock is very thick for such a small knife.

    Pocket fixed blade enthusiast here. Any short handled fixed blade that has a 3mm hole at the end of the handle can be "gorilla" gripped with a fairly simple paracord fobb. I prefer snake knots, but you can just as easily do a short solomon bar as well.

    Its comes pretty sharp (you can cut hair pretty easy)
    The knife is extremly lightweight and also unbelievable well made.

    I've been waiting for this video for forever. I have owned the SOG Instinct (not the mini) for about 2 years. I love the little knife, just wish it had a 4 finger grip. While the sheath can be set up in almost any ambidextrous orientation, the retaining screw tends to come loose and the knife slings around or just falls off. I carry it in scout position, but unfortunately the clip doesn't hold very well. I tend to find my knife (with sheath) falling off or still in chairs when I get up. @KnifeCenter if you find a great full grip edc knife I can carry in scout on a pair of shorts sans belt, you'd make my day.

    Cool episode. Very surprised you didn’t mention the Ka-Bar TDI. That knife is carried by 90% of the law enforcement officers as their “ handgun retention tool “. It’s what I carry every day to protect against someone trying to snatch my sidearm.

    Surprised by no Benchmade SOCP. I’ve pocket carried the larger one and the smaller one would be even easier. They upgraded the clip on the smaller one and actually sent me one of those clips for free. Much better for retention in pocket.

    Hi everyone! The best pocket fixed blade is the Enryo by the Spartan knives co. Why? Because this particular knife comes in a way of carry which is versatile. You can carry this knife as a neck knife or a knife that you can carry on your belt. Besides that this knife can be bought in a regular steel or s35vn which is an awesome steel.

    Bought myself a k-bar wrench love it, use it hard everyday at work and it holds up great. I'm in Australia so knives aren't super cool in public so I like that it doesn't look like I'm carrying a knife because I'd hate for someone to get freaked out.

    My better half really likes the ESEE Candiru, I think she was more swayed by the colour than the actual utility of the knife though. 😂 Personally I like the KA-BAR, it just looks like a practical tool with no frills (a bit like me).

    in these videos about pocket carry knives no one talks about the cold steel spike (2013-) and I find a very decent knife for pocket carry.. 4''blade and 4''handle and a decent sheat. u can drop in a deep pocket and it disappear. and u can fast draw it by pushing up and back at the same time, like u would in a emerson wave assisted folder.

    I'm not gonna lie, we don't always see eye to eye on what we think makes a knife great; but you have made an amazing fixed blade with that skipjack. It looks perfect to be honest, and I think I have to get one now. I love a full flat grind on anything that isn't big enough for a scandi, and the size of that knife seems perfect. Drop point is obviously the superior blade shape, but maybe the sheath could use some work even though i applaud you for using real leather. You sold me when you first pulled it out; i didn't even need the whole presentation. kudos man

    7:34 thats a nostalgic color combo for me as well,
    it reminded me of a chewing gum spool - tape like bubblegum that came out when i was a kid, ...and after we realize that we have so mANly looking tactical knives, its silly not to fancy a colorful new blade... i luved it.

    Great video.
    Take your factory Fallkniven F1 knife. 4 inch blade. Designed as a survival knife. Leave it in the ugly factory sheath. The whole unit fits comfortably in the front pants pocket of a Brooks Brother suit.
    You are correct about a knife in a sheath dangling down a leg. If you have to wear a windbreaker all day, there are options. I have behind the back carry knives (Esee4, ZT0160, ZT0170 and others) in horizontal sheaths. For all that, you can wear a shirt with a long tail, a lumber jack shirt, an oversized work out shirt.

    I was using the CRKT minimalist bowie for awhile. Regretful I has to get a deep-carry pocket knife to replace it. I did not want to like the Mini Bowie at first because, it seems like you can only use one grip on it. I am finding that the Piet is also a great knife. And I will add that pocket knives are less durable due to the moving parts. I am very impressed with how little the blade wiggles with this model.
