What an awesome trip! Thank you so much for letting us take the journey along with you. Unfortunately, I don't think I will ever make it to USA now (as much as I would LOVE to), but videos like this are so great for getting an understanding of what it is like there. Loved it!
Thanks Kevin for posting. As someone who has relatives in Toronto and used to live in NYC (Brooklyn to be exact) drove on this route couple of time most recent in 2004. Only difference was that I took the Thruway (I90)to Syracuse then I-81 to Scranton in NE Penn. then I-380 to the Poconos and then finally I-80 thru NJ back to NYC. Actually bypassed Downtown NYC/Manhattan and took the Goethals Bridge to Staten Island and then the Verrazano Bridge to Brooklyn. Might use US 20 next time i am in Western NY area. For those driving to Metro NYC from Northern NJ & Beyond and going to say JFK Airport and or Long Island, the bridges thru Staten Island and Brooklyn and finally the Belt Parkway Highway is a great way to skip Manhattan. Still might hit traffic but still less traffic than thru Lower Manhattan/Downtown NYC.
I did Manhattan to Buffalo and then on to Niagara Falls, then back to NYC on 13 Aug 2017 on a bus tour. The route looked quite familiar. I plan to drive in the US next time so this video is quite useful. A bit lengthy but will watch it in parts
Yeah, in New York City, they actually love putting up trees all alongside the expressways. The suburbs of New York City are actually very big, but it feels like you're going through the woods, because they cover up all the roads with lots of trees. Long Island, for example, is a huge suburb, but there are so many trees alongside the expressways, that it feels like you're going through the woods, but you're actually going through lots of city and suburb areas.
to those who travel from Buffalo to New York, don't take the NYState Thruway all the way, it's a longer route and not to mention you gotta pay to drive on a toll road, this video shows the recommended route. Kudos to you @Kevin L
4:09:14 Lovely hills around Binghamton remind me of the Bavarian countryside. Edited to add: 5:17:33 that smoke looks dangerous. Hope all went well with those folks.
Lysette Larocque I want to have a holiday I’m from Sydney Australia but I want to fly to New York hire a car and from New York drive to Niagara Falls but Australia drive opposite side I don’t know how scary can be please give me some advice thanks heaps.
Great video. I'm glad you're not like other TH-camrs that have to fast forward their works. I actually enjoy the scenery. Keep the motion like this. It's perfect for future road trips.
5:23:00 saving for when i miss driving these roads in the summer time lol edit: i moved to texas 8 months ago, this video is even more comforting. thanks for keeping it up :)
Hey Kev, luv the vid.. this the 2nd one I'm watching on yer site.. I'm in the UK ( Cornwall ) where we got all hills, and narrow roads mostly one lane each way.. my only comment - is there any way you can reduce yer tyre noise or wotever it is, cos that kinda spoils it.. but the vid is good..
You can go 7 hours West to Buffalo/Ontario, or go 6 hours North to Montreal. There’s also 2-3 hours east of NYC to get to Montauk. At the most extreme points it’s maybe 10 hours give or take. Google says 9 hours, 525 miles.
JC it's a long video lol of 7 hours so I let him edited it to explain. I will mention the main cities/Tourist spots Kevin probably went thru including as I have also driven a similar route from Toronto/Niagara Falls to NYC. Hope it helps. 1)Grand Island Bridge connecting Buffalo with Niagara Falls 2)Buffalo (Peace Bridge to Ft Erie, On at around 24:00 minutes) 3)Rochester, NY area 4)Elmira, NY 5)Southern Tier 6)Binghamton 7)Western Catskills including Liberty and Monticello, NY (former home of a famous race track and now a casino) 8)Middletown/Walkill NY/Orange County in the Hudson River Valley 9)Bear Mountain/Central Valley 9)Rockland County and Bergen County, NY in the nearby suburbs of NYC 10)George Washington Bridge 11)NYC/Manhattan.
Love your videos. This one really shows the beauty of that part of the state. Many do not realise with its seven distinct regions just how beautiful that NY State really is.
PETANI DESA FISH FARMER a big memory card is more important - I record in 1080p so that’s about 10GB an hour. Don’t need the fastest memory card since it’s not 4k.
Me: Well. It's April 2017. Well. Since we had already been to DC, the falls, in 2016, London and Paris, and we are going to be in NYC this morning April 8th and we'll be at the an afarian gardens NYC hotel and we'll see something important and we can see Fate of the Furious 8 when we get back to San Diego. Adam Scott: That's nice. Jamie Foxx: Well. It doesn't come out until the 14th when we get back. Rudd: So we get back on the 12th. Glover: Correct! Bogeya: So we be booking plane tickets to first class jet blue like when we get back to the room and start packing up and start with plane tickets. Me: Good.
He took the long cut. I have no idea why he took the 400 to get off in West Seneca, then back on to get off on 20A. He should have just stayed on I-90 East. Plenty of places to stop and get gas, eat, etc. It was nice scenery's but took an extra hour plus.
i'm doing this drive next year when i travel to Canada from the UK,what is the process at the border is it passport control or just like the toll ? Great video by the way.
Literally just watched this whole video in one sitting.. never got up to even pee of get something to drink.. not once!! Man, that was some good pot!! The guy called it Labrador or something 🤷
Not possible. Firstly, Toronto to Niagara Falls is NOT 2 hours, more like 30 mins(unless the bridges are backed up) and the. The drive from NF to NYC is MINIMUM 5 1/2 hours. A FLIGHT from NYC or Niagra Falls is an hour and a half. If you only traveled an hour or so from Niagara Falls, you were in BUFFALO, NOT NYC
hi we are a group of 30 people from india. we want to travel from nyc to niagarafalls by road by hired coach in june. everyone suggesting its not doable, very far etc is it?
6 hours that's a long time Yorkshire are very small state in California takes 4 hours at 85 mph 80 mph going to San Francisco from Los Angeles New York I've done the drive you know how to do it the right way you can make it in 3 hours the roads are windy but still there's a way to do it there's no reason it should take 7 hours
Not US 17, New York State route 17, runs from near the GW bridge through North New Jersey all the way through what is referred to as the southern tier of NY State ending at I-90 near Erie, PA. Parts of it are also numbered I-86, however, these parts run concurrently with NY SR 17.

Do you feel like these videos really capture the way it goes? Do you fast forward it, or do you just watch it at the regular speed?
Why wouldn’t you make it to the US ?

I went to school at Buffalo. This brings back a lot of fond memories. Thanks!
400 to East Aurora, US-20A. Save money on the Thruway toll :-) Yeah i was a poor student!
Buffalo is yucky

This is wonderful and you passed through my city, love these journeys! Definitely gonna check out more of these from you.
after hours and hours of trees i love how one of the biggest cities in the world just appears NYC knows how to make an entrance.

It's six hours in a car, if the driver gets on I-90 and doesn't take nonsensical side trips and long routes like this guy.
Why on earth would you take 20A? Just for the country ride?
I don't know where I'm going
