When the Commodores were still funky funky, lettin’ it all hang out! Sorry to all the folks thinking that Lionel Richie sang lead, it was actually the drummer Walter “Clyde” Orange.
Robin Smith Bryan I grew up with this music so I’m well aware of how they sounded b4 Lionel sang lead & after. I only meant Walter sang lead on THIS song.
JV watching so intensely he wiped the sweat off his brow at the end! One of your best reactions ever. I was laughing right along with you. Love your smile!
YES! BEST EVER! Seeing your smile ALWAYS makes me smile & picks me up. It's part of my morning routine now. After I read the news & feel down, I watch your reactions and instantly feel better AND have energy AND wanna dance my away into my day. THANK YOU!!
Yeah, this is one of the top best dance songs in history imo. I remember doing a dance with friends called "the bump" to it way back in '77 when I was 13. I've always loved Lionel Ritchie but it took years for me to realize that this is him singing. I always think of Lionel with these beautiful love songs that he writes, sings and plays the piano to when he went solo. But, yes, such a fun song! The part you weren't sure what he was saying is "She's the one, the only one, built like an amazon!" and then near the end he's just singing, "Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down!" lol
Lionel was not singing this one, the drummer was. Anyway, I was 18 when it came out, it was a fun song then, still a fun song now. When it comes on while I am driving, I am wiggling in my seat lol. Makes for some inteteresting glances! 🙂
@@nancy9478 No wonder it doesn't sound like him lol Oops! I think I saw him perform it once by himself just for fun on a talk show or something. Maybe that's why I thought it was him. Thanks!
The Commodores is one of the best of the seventies R&B/funk bands! They had so many hits like Easy, Zoom, Still, Three Time A Lady, Sweet Love, etc! Lionel Richie sang lead on most of their hits in the seventies then he went on to a successful solo career in the eighties! This song was led by another band member, Walter Orange, and it was a huge hit in the late seventies! It was my oldest sister’s theme song and it reminds me of her so it holds a special place in my heart!❤️❤️
Reminds me of the songs, "Fire" and "Skin Tight", by Ohio Players. (Built Like an Amazon!) Brick- Dazz.....Earth Wind and Fire- Boogie Wonderland....Let's Groove Tonight....so many greats.

@@mj95b Yeah, I get it. I didn't let go of my vinyl; it was stolen. Replacing my collection would have been very expensive and it wouldn't be the same, anyway. That's just my opinion.
Jayvee has transported me back to a high school dance! The dance definitely kicked up a notch when this got played! And don't feel bad about lyrics, back before the internet, the only way we got definite lyrics was if you bought the album and they printed the lyrics on the album sleeve, otherwise you had to do your best to figure them out, which if you were listening on the radio was pretty tricky sometimes. Maybe it's time for some Stevie Wonder? "Maybe Your Baby", "You Haven't Done Nothing" (very appropriate for the times!), and "I Wish" are great funky songs. Be well, stay safe. Peace from SF
@Judi Dipillo He's adorable and charming. I cringe now when I think of how many songs I sang out loud , saying the wrong lyrics, and thinking I was singing it right. lol
I am 58 now Was a DJ in the 80s. You NEED to listen to Earth Wind and Fires' Reasons. Lead singer Maurice White hits notes that are off the charts. So many great EWF songs like "I'll write a song for you. Commodores Zoom is also a treasure! Love your videos, awesome to support someone hearing these songs for the 1st time and seeing the joy and awe in your face and comments!
"Built like an amazon" is what he sang but some of the lyrics won't have that noted. The name Brick House comes from a saying, "She's built like a sh*t brick house" so when the song was made they left sh*t out. She's a powerful woman and a sturdy woman. She doesn't mess around. Great song... thanks for your reaction, Jay. It was fun. Take care and be well. Peace.
I am very old, and have never seen an outhouse made out of brick. Anyway, a "brick shit house" would indeed be a very well-built outhouse -- which is the point of the lyric. Love hearing all of my cherished songs!
