Nice video. My project is to add a zipper to a ready-made rash guard to make it a full zip rash guard. I needed to see the visual for adding the protective layer on the backside of the zipper to protect the torso from the zipper. Very helpful to see exactly what you showed.

Do the zipper before assembling the jacket. MUCH easier to only have the 2 front pieces to deal with, not other pieces. If zip goes all way up hood then just attach that. ( edit to add-- many RTW jackets have snaps on the hood portion, no zipper, this makes it easier to hang neatly on a hanger--snap it together and it won't slip off hanger.) Leave the back & sleeves off. You can even semi-attach the bottom band to have zip go over that, add back later.
Sorry but this isnt a facing. Facings dont stick out when you undo the zipper. What you stitched here is called a placket. Facings are added to both sides of the zipper and then stitched to the body lining of a jacket. They can only be seen on the wrong side of a jacket garment or by looking inside it.
Since this was filmed in 2017 & it hasn't been answered, I will. I believe she has inserted it purposely so the zipper shows. When I fid this I went to JoAnn's & got one of the cute plastic ones with chunky teeth
