  • WIRMISH!! Big love to you for this one, brother. You were the first to bring this to my attention and what an incredible song it was! Thank you so much to everyone else that further confirmed this to be a banger, I wish I'd have listened MUCH sooner! Wow!
p.s. I also read through the lyrics. I absolutely love the message here tbh. We are all looking for answers in life, some turn to a higher power, some turn to other people and some find the strength in themselves. Whatever you're searching for answers to, my friends, stay persistent and keep fighting! They will come and your hard work will pay off!

Kudos for being perhaps the only reactor who:
    A. Knows what scat is, and
    B. Instantly recognized the scat part in a Japanese song
They lyrics are great; turn on CC and watch again with the English subs.
They have been playing for almost as long as Metallica, but nobody calls Metallica “Grandpa Rock,” as many other reactors have.
You can find videos of them playing when they were young. Check them out. Although this song has deep Sabbath influences, they are more of a prog band.

I totally did lol! I read the lyrics before I listened but definitely gonna learn for next time that it's better with CCs on!
Grandpa rock? Nahhhh, not IMO. I mean, sure they're a little older but what the HELL was 'grandpa' about this? lol! Had me BOUNCING in my seat lol! I agree, definitely not grandpa rock lol!

I am living in Sweden and being a nerd on Japanese music is not the worst way to go! The guitarist is born 1965 and I think the bass player as well. Drummer is a couple of years younger. Ningen Isu beside Show-Ya is the oldest metal group that still playing. Show-ya had 35 years anniversary last year. Check out their song Lovers. I think Anthem still plays... And then we have the group that plays bubblegumpoppunk without attitude but make me smile all day. Shonen Knife. They celebrate 40 years anniversary this Year...

There is a video out there of Shinji Wajima (Ningeen Isu's guitarist) "battling" Kanami from BAND-MAID. They each decorated styrofoam cups, and the goal of the battle is to alternate playing guitar until one cup "pushes" over the other via sound waves. It's funny, but it's hard to find.

  • @yolandria

Excellent reaction, Chief! I love these guys and I'm glad you appreciate them too. As others have said, Ningen Isu have been around for over thirty years. Musically, their influences include the Beatles, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Budgie and Motorhead - all that good stuff. Lyrically, their songs draw inspiration from Japanese mythology and folklore as well as classic horror literature (including occasionally H.P. Lovecraft). All three members sing lead vocals on different songs. Perhaps for your next reaction you should try one in which the bass player, Ken-Ichi Suzuki, sings lead. Blasphemy (live) from their official channel would be a good one, I think.
Ningen Isu were the last band I saw in concert before the pandemic put the kibosh on touring. My partner and I saw them at the Camden Underworld in London, on their first tour outside Japan. The music was great and the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic - friendly, fun, warm and welcoming. I don't know who was happier to be there: the audience or the band. I hope we all get the chance to see them on the road again before too long. Meanwhile, they have a new album coming out in a couple of weeks.
Anyway, enough words. Thanks for a very respectful, enthusiastic, entertaining reaction. Oh, and by the way, Scatman John was hugely popular in Japan in the mid-90s. I believe he sold more records there than anywhere else in the world. I don't know whether that had any effect on Ningen Isu, but who knows?

    • @Chief322
      @Chief322  3 ปีที่แล้ว

You are so kind :) Thank you :) I appreciate those kind words very much indeed!
Okay! 'Blasphemy' has been noted, I'd love to see him in a different element having been immediately drawn to him by this video lol! So, hell yeah! I'll check that out 100% :) Thank you for that!
Ohhhh nice! I certainly hope they come back, as well as all of these other bands I'm finding, cause once they do.. we're all gonna be CHOMPING at the bit for tickets haha! With everything that's gone on for the last 18 months, I think we all deserve to be blessed with their presence haha! Also, the last time I left Leicester was to go down to Camden and hang with some friends at a bar near the market. Kinda freaky that you'd bring it up haha!
Honestly, thank you a WHOLE lot for this comment. You're very kind and insightful and I appreciate you, my friend :) I hope you have an amazing weekend!

      @ClawCarver 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You're very welcome! My partner and I both enjoyed your reaction tremendously. We look forward to seeing what you make of Blasphemy or any other Ningen Isu numbers you do. They've been doing this stuff for over three decades, so they have a ton of great songs. And they're great, charming, humble (and slightly eccentric) guys.
I hadn't realised you were in Leicester. If you mentioned it before, I missed it. I'm in Scotland but I lived in Leicester for a year in the early '90s. I was the only "hippy" in a house full of goths, overlooking Spinney Hill Park. I had a good time and saw lots of great gigs: Gong, Ozric Tentacles, Senser, RDF, and many others. I understand that the Charlotte is long gone. A great pity. That was a fun little venue. Anyway, take care. Thanks for the kind reply!

Brother, I'm SO pissed that this got lost in the sea! I notice that Ningen Isu dropped a new album AND a new song from that album just a day or two ago..! I MUST react to this lol!
That's INSANE! I've never mentioned whereabouts I am in the UK and the first time I do, I say it to someone who used to live here haha! Blows my mind, it really does. Yeah, the Charlotte is gone and it's definitely sad cause I feel like now there's not really a place to go to grow the scene and perhaps it's more damaging to us, as fans, than we might have realised. Lots of shows have been missed (on my end) since because I can't travel so far all the time. Super shame, BUT, I get it. It got kinda sketchy towards the end there haha!
I'm sorry again that this took so long, bro! Sometimes comments just vanish into the abyss but I'm so glad I found it haha! I hope you're having a great week and gearing up for a nice relaxing weekend, man :) MUCH love!

In Japanese, the "g" is a hard "g" like in "game', and the "u"u after an "s" is often not pronounced - a quirk of the language. So the band is "Nin-gen Iss"

Great to see you exploring these guys. They've been going for 30 years, I believe, and are the best Rock trio I've seen since Rush or the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Probably the best Prog Rock trio I've seen too, since Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Their 'characters', or what they're wearing at least, are 19th century schoolteacher (guitar), a mute monk (bassist) and a Yakuza member (drums). There's some live clips on YT and their experience and skills are clearly visible. Love the way they change the way this song goes in so many directions so many times. Another jaw-dropping/spectacular Japanese band I'd recommend checking are The Wagakki Band, who mix traditional and Metal excellently, as in their superb live rendition of 'Homura/Akatsuki No Ito' ( th-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/w-d-xo.html ). I don't know a ton about this one, but Tony Griffin below had all that I knew about them. They have a good catalog of music from over the years. They are a very talented trio of guys so I'm glad for them they're getting more international attention. And honestly I have to give ultimate respect to them for their amazing homage to Lovecraft with their song "The Colour Out of Space". Oh yeah, and all of their songs have English captions on them if you're interested in what they're saying.
The reaction scene on TH-cam really elevated their standing and the number of people who know of them. It's a very inspiring consequence of people who do reactions like these. I hope you can continue to discover many new bands to show to people. Reactors who listen to ultra famous bands really don't appeal to me. We all know Tool and Zepplin, guys. Show off bands that people don't know about. Speaking of, I'll have to see if you're interested in some. I'll make a list. :)

The content of the lyric greatly adds to the quality it is a plead to the spirits. There is a version translated into English. That you were waiting for scat is impressive most people are clueless about that. The scat phonics are different I imagine because their language has different phonemes sounds in their vocabulary. Hello Chief!
I really do enjoy watching your reactions. You are probably the most multifaceted reactor I've seen. Hmm, multifaceted, what does that even mean?
You seem to experience a performance, with the different parts of your psyche, at the same time. And then you somehow manage to convey to us in words, and expression, and that last part is especially impressive. Seeing as how your doing it with basically half of a face. (The mask)
You get the technical, the sound, and the feels, all as one, but at the same time, each little piece is itself, a shining gem.
    You make it all relatable.
I saw, by your response to another comment, that you've already read the lyrics to this. So I won't make that suggestion. Although, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on them.
I also noticed in other comments that people are offering recommendations/suggestions for other things for you to check out. I saw one that I want to second, and then offer up a suggestion of my own.
I very much agree with the person that suggested Damish performing S.O.S. I guarantee you will always remember the first time you saw Damish. His vocal abilities seem to be well beyond normal human limits. The first time I watched him, I just sat and stared at the screen for what seemed to be a long time. Eventually I realized my mouth had gone dry, so I got up to get a drink. I got halfway to the kitchen before I realized my jaw was still laying on my keyboard. Yeah, he's that special.

Bob, this has to be one of the nicest comments that I've ever received. Thank you SO much for these incredibly kind words, they really do mean a hell of a lot, man :) Actually got me choked up, I can't lie. Sensitive Sally over here ;) haha!
With the lyrics to this, I find them to be actually kinda relatable tbh. It's like he's just fed up with the way things are treating him and the broadness of the direction of his frustrations (as he mentions not only The Holy Angels but The Divine Goddess and Buddha) is certainly something I've experienced. To me, personally, it's coming across like he's saying "Please, I need answers, I need assistance and I don't really care which one of you it comes from. Just answer my questions and help me!" and, although I'm not religious or anything myself, I have BEEN there lol! It's like a sad story wrapped in a motivating and inspiring blanket of music. - At least, that's the best way that I can explain what I feel with this one haha! Listened to it every day since, at least a couple times, it's incredible.
Thank you for those suggestions, for the confirmation of the first and the brand new one coming in. I'll most certainly add them to the list and THANK you extra for the links, it makes things so much easier to just be like 'click' from my spreadsheet and off we go! haha.
Again, brother, I can't thank you enough for your incredibly kind and motivating words. This kinda stuff really sticks with me and gives me that kick up the butt when I need it so, honestly, thank you for adding to the source of my anxiety beaters :) It really means the world.
Have an amazing day, Bob. I hope you can spend it with a smile on your face as you've started my day in exactly that way. I appreciate you, my brother.

Oh, and you asked about the guitar Shinji is playing. That's a Gibson SG. SG stands for "Solid Guitar." SGs were originally a variant/replacement of the Gibson Les Paul, but Les Paul himself strongly disliked the design and demanded that his name be taken off of it. Gibson did so, renaming the guitar the SG.
Ken-Ichi Suzuki is playing a BC Rich Eagle. BC Rich has never been my favorite brand (they look cool but usually sound like shit), but Suzuki's sounds pretty good live. He was strongly influenced by the showmanship of Gene Simmons, so that's why he makes a for of faces and gestures and such.

Oh wow, that's actually super interesting, bro :) Thank you for this! A little trivia knowledge there for if it ever comes up in conversation haha! I'll be like "Pale Horse told me that one!" LOL!
Also, didn't BC Rich do the ermmm.. Warlock? With the widow headstock that Mick from Slipknot plays? I'm not at all clued up on guitar brands or anything, just the big mainstream ones haha!
Honestly, this comment and your previous about the cup battle with Kanami, I really appreciate them :) Thank you :) Someone has mentioned that it'd been taken off of TH-cam cause of copyright or something but it's around if you really look.. I dunno.. but it sounds like it'd be worth a watch for sure.
Have an amazing weekend, my friend :) Thank you again for this insight, I really appreciate it :)

@@Chief322, yes, BC Rich makes the Warlock. One of my guitarist friends played a Warlock back when we were in our 20s, and he still gripes about how terrible that guitar was. I couldn't say what the guys from Slipknot play as I've never been able to get into them.

I really like the way you describe things and you have a very good ear. I find a need a few listens to pick up the details. I love the way this guy plays bass. I have heard that they represent the scholar (guitarist, vocalist), yakuza (drummer) and monk (bass). I don't know if that is correct but seems to fit. What is this sweating in 30 degree heat lol? I live in Australia and that strikes me as funny. Thanks for a great reaction.

I really appreciate this, Suzanne :) Thank you so much! I think you're right about who/what they represent, I read another comment that said the same thing down here :) I always find it interesting to delve into that kinda stuff, like, finding out whast the band were thinking with the video and things like that :)
LOL!! I'm not used to it AT ALL! I'm from the UK and the only other place I've lived is Canada lol! Definitely not known for our hot weather lol! Kinda jealous that you're in Aus though, would love to visit there some day.
Thank you again for this lovely comment :) I really appreciate your kind words and I hope your weekend is going really well! :)

South of Spain. 30 degrees during summer is a blessing. It could reach 10 to 15 more degrees easily.

these guys have been around for over 30 years they just dropped their 22nd album. They have consistently been good and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a bad song from them--if such a thing exists.
    The guitarist likes playing SGs.
This is the first video from their new album--you'll love this one...

Nice reaction Chief, I hadn't heard of these guys either so thanks for the intro.
Just want to second what Tony said below to check out Wagakki Band as I think your enjoyment of Japanese metal as well as Nightwish means you'll have a good time: th-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/w-d-xo.html
Honestly the only thing I can say against that video I've linked is one of the two drummers (another reason I think you'll like them!) occasionally uses a big Taiko drum and you would feel that vibrate through your whole body seeing it live, so the video just can't do it justice!

      - Obscure (warning: graphic mv)
      - Tsumi to Batsu (fairly odd (EN: Sin and Punishment)
      - Diabolos
      - Midwife
      - Uroko (EN: (Fish) scales (fairly sure "Uroko" can mean scales from other creatures too as long as you specify or include context)
