I’m all in favor of this trend of Sony focusing on creating smaller, higher quality lenses with reduced focus breathing, rather than just making them faster. I hope they give this treatment to make a G 85mm f1.8.
This may will bring me into the Sony system.

@@momovalencia1 I like the 50 1.4 look. It's not about the extra light for me. It's the look and a 1.4 has a look all of it's own. I'm not to keen on the 1.2's Too shallow. Sometimes a bit clinical. Artful for sure. Yes I can stop down but they still have a different look. And they are huge. The 1.8's are ok but can be a little bit flat. Same with the 2's. I find 1.4 to be the sweet spot. I use old Nikon and Leica lenses which are great but not fast in the focusing. They are beautiful but I have been looking for a workhorse 50 for a new mirrorless system. Nikon don't even do 1.4's which is disappointing and the Sony Zeiss as nice as it is, is a little big and questionable on the weather sealing. I was hoping for something more compact. This 50 looks like it could be a good option. With the A7rV or even better if an A7V comes then for me that may be a super powerful setup. Especially as the 24, 35 and now 1.4's are so inline with each other. It's either that or Nikon Z8 with a 50 1.4 if they even make one. The Leica SL system as nice as it is, isn't quite there for me yet either.
@@picturemaker we already had a beautiful F1.4 it’s just heavy by zeiss but extremely sharp & has beautiful bokeh nice focus breathing as well for video work
@@SunnySoCal I have used the Zeiss 50 and yes, it's very beautiful. I kept seeing comments about the lack of weather sealing but in reality I don't think that's an issue at all.
Fast AF, stable AF, and quiet AF. Got it.

A fx30 or a74 and 50mm 1.4 and a 20-70 could basically do everything you need a camera to do. Any intro videographer could do almost anything they need with those lenses. I

The best feature here is the minimized focus breathing.

The A7R5 they used has a focus breathing compensation feature, so there is a good chance the breathing won’t look like that on other cameras.
@@nickrichardsfilm I know, but I have a7S III that's for some reason didn't get the update while FX6 got it. I have Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 that barely has any focus breathing.
@@Bo_Hazem I honestly don't understand why they haven't made a firmware update. Most non-cine lenses faster than F2.8 have focus breathing so this is really holding us back.
@@nickrichardsfilm Still gotta say I never regret getting a7SIII and would buy it today. Just hoping only for those minor updates to make it even better.

Looks great, but the 1.2 is already the best lens Sony makes (in my opinion). So why the 1.4?
cheaper option for those who can't afford $2,200 for the 1.2.

Hi Sony, I do not like the focal length 50mm, I never did, for me it is useless, ANY focal length shorter or longer. I do love the Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 and I hope you will upgrade the 55mm in the future (or a 60/65mm) a AF/MF button will be welcome, thank you.

I already have f1.2 version. So, for this one, I think it is one of the most nonsense and meaningless lens Sony has ever made. Better to release 50mm f1.8 mark II stead. This is the result of having poor marketing team for Sony...
