When I met my husband’s grandmother she told me a story. Her husband came from Spain. Jumped off a ship and made his way to WV. He wanted to marry her. Her Italian immigrant father told him to go back to Spain, make things right and return legally and you can marry my daughter. Well, 5 years later he made it back and they married. My parents met and it took 6 years before my mom to be able to immigrate to the US.

Northern border is substantially more difficult because you need to get into Canada in the first place.
Southern border is far far easier because you often dont need visa in some LATAM countries
Getting into the Canada from third world countries especially south asia now very easy than getting into the Mexico from same third world country.
In those third world country if you pay $2500 to some politician or their loyalist (those loyalist has large visa documents processing business in every town) than you can get all documents from that third world country to apply Canadian visa. Believe snake but don't believe documents issued by third world countries especially south asia. Narco leaders, murders and Cartel can get genuine police clearance certificates from those countries why because police and other institutions including universities as well as banks are rubber stamps of the politicians they can do what ever they want with those institutions.

What they don’t realize is how expensive it is to live in Canada and many of these students end up struggling but are too ashamed to tell their parents who risked everything. It’s a mess. And then there are those like this who are also exploiting Canadas failed immigration system to get into the US.
