Lovely building and well manicured lawn and garden. Naipaul has talked several times about living in this building, very cold in winter, and longing to live in a warm place. But the irony is that he chose to write and live in a small English village that was even colder than London, when he could have very easily afforded to move to a well insulated, much warmer place. He was a brilliant writer with an acerbic tongue. No oxford educated British gentleman had command over the English language that Sir V S Naipaul did. Many gripping passages from his brilliant novel, A Bend in the river, which I read more than forty years ago, still ring in my mind, after all these years. Yesh Prabhu, Bushkill, Pennsylvania
The distress hidden in his earliest fiction books breaks heart. Later he was corrupted to do the kind of writing he did. He was unhappy for his writing then was far bad than when he began. It reflects in the supressed rage spilling out of his work. The wonder and mystery in spite of everything earlier brings joy to a reader.
