    Just wanted to thank you. I did multiple optimizations and still had high CPU usage even using GPU for AI and having a good CPU. In the end the problem was the number of images sent to AI (at 10:15). Now performance is acceptable with my 20 cameras.

    Wow! I was thrilled to cut my Intel CPU usage by 50% !! You need to give lessons to many TH-cam posters as to how to deliver useful information in a clear, concise, extremely well-paced, un-caffeinated manner with no "uh", "um" etc. I am a now a huge fan of your delivery-style. Thank you!

    How did you get the GPU usage to show on the lower right by CPU and RAM usage????

    This video was extremely helpful, especially the part about the sub streams. I had near 100% CPU usage with two 4K cameras, and still have four more cameras to add to my system. After setting direct to disk recording and turning on the substreams, my cpu usage is below 10%. Thanks

    Thanks for doing these video's, been converting over GANZ cameras from a old computer into Blue Iris. I already had some Reolink cameras running on it with very little cpu and ram, added some of the Ganz cameras and it the system was almost pegged. Put in some of the settings from this video and the system is normalized again.

    I have 7 4K Amcrest cameras and my mini PC with an i5-8500T was constantly ranging between 85% - 100% processor. Enabled the "limit decoding unless required" on each camera, not all of them had it on and unchecked "Display overlays live" for each and now my processor is below 30%. I already had some of the other settings set.

    I assume that if motion/AI detection is working on the sub stream which has a resolution and quality far below the main stream, that could impact accurate motion detection significantly.

    Great series - I'm sure this will help some people break through what is a rather unwieldy UI and pile of toggles. On the AI CPU usage - the 3rd party AITool had a good option to be able to set several IPs for AI servers and spread the load. Unfortunately I can't see the option to specify multiple servers within BlueIris.

    • @learnblueiris
      @learnblueiris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for watching. There is the option to have more instances, but it doesn't give you a new spot for another IP address. I'll have to look into this more.

    • @jasestu
      @jasestu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@learnblueiris Ah yeah, that's right - more instances on the same machine, doesn't help spread the load - makes more sense to get the processing away from the computer that's just had to switch from sub stream recording to main stream because there's a trigger...

    I have 3, 5MP Amcrest cameras and I turned on "Limit decoding unless required" and I noticed after some time, the cameras freeze and won't detect any motion at all unless I refresh the cameras. The key is 1.0 so that's enough to enable the feature...but why are the cameras freezing to the point that the don't detect any motion at all?

    Your videos are very well done and are a great help as I prepare to install a video system for a non-profit. How does using the sub-stream affect the pre-trigger motion piece of the recording? Will the pre-trigger piece of the recording be in lower bit rate and lower resolution?

    Hi
    Firstly, thank you for your informative videos.
    I followed all your video guides for installing BI on a Windows 11 Pro computer.
    The PC in an AllInOne i5 with 12 GB RAM and a 1TB SSD drive.
    I am currently using 6 cameras and using zerotier for remote access.
    The CPU usage looks high. It hits 100 sometimes.
    Is it a limitation on BI?
    I need your advice please.
    All the best

  • @ttb1513
    @ttb1513 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very thorough! Hey, how do you get the view of “All clips” to show as ONLY a single column left of the “All Cameras” view?
    Mine displays 6 columns of clips and leaves no room for the live camera view.
    (I’m a bit crippled and clumsy while using Remote Desktop to view and control my PC without a mouse, so answer this like you are speaking to a dummy). 😂
    I had this problem before and I forgot!

    • @ttb1513
      @ttb1513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Found it! It’s the "more items" button. Why the button is called "items" and not "clips" and why it doesn’t toggle to "Fewer clips" or "Less clips" when more are presently shown …. I can’t answer.
      Also, I looked for it in the pop up menu in the camera view pane, The "show timeline view" is present no matter where the menu pops up, but the "show clips view" is only present if you select over a camera (not in dead, black space).
      Not that anybody is watching, but it seems like having both a "show many clips" and "show some clips" option in the pop up menu, no matter where you select, would make it easier to find.
      Maybe by typing this I’ll actually remember in a few months when I come back to needing to find it again?

    When is the intel thing being used for?.. is it when decoding or when recording? I don't really see any difference at all by selecting intel or any other. I have a i7-6700 which has QuickSync, but honestly I don't see any difference at all. What am I supposed to be looking at when using intel?

    • @learnblueiris
      @learnblueiris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The decode is used for both viewing and recording - Blue Iris has to decode the stream from your camera either way. Make sure your cameras aren't set to "no" instead of "default". Also double check there is an "i" in the status.

    • @macster1457
      @macster1457 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@learnblueiris Yes, I've checked all that and I do see the "I" when selecting intel, but I don't notice a difference on the cpu at all.

    apparently i have a lot of your videos to watch. i've been trying to get my blue iris squared away where it's actually running smooth. for some reason, only some of my cams will use the nvidia decoding. i have 10 cams i think and my i7-6700 with 16gb of ram stays pegged at roughly 100% and close to maxed memory. i'll be upgrading memory soon to hopefully help a little. i don't even have the software open most of the time. just the service running.

  • @CH-fy7xe

    VBR vs CBR. What is the reasoning for using one over the other. If VBR only sends a lower rate when little is needed and it jumps to higher when needed, then why would anyone need CBR? It seems like one would always want to use VBR but I'm likely missing the reason for ever choosing CBR. These videos are the best explanation I've ever seen about BI!!!

    • @learnblueiris
      @learnblueiris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for watching! Variable bitrate will send less data if there is nothing changing in the image the camera sees (or very little). It is usually the better choice, but some NVRs don't play well with VBR. Also, there might be a small ramp up to get to full quality if all of the sudden there is movement so some people choose to record CBR all the time to get the full quality to matter what and not rely on the camera to make the decision on when to send more bits.
      I appreciate the kind words about these videos being good explanations. Makes me want to keep making them! :)

    • @learnblueiris
      @learnblueiris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how many cameras you want to have and what quality the cameras will run at (resolution/framerate/bitrate). If you have a couple of cameras that aren't super high resolution, you could probably run those no problem on an old laptop. Keep in mind though that a laptop hard drive isn't meant to be written to continuously so I would suggest only recording video when motion is detected unless you have a surveillance hard drive like the Western Digital Purple drive. Good luck!
