- Here at Edmunds, we’re constantly testing new cars, and we’ve got a special process for electric ones. Every electric car we test is taken on the Edmunds EV Range Test, a real-world driving route, and driven until the battery is just about empty. Based on that test, the electric vehicles in this video are the ones we’ve found to have the lowest ranges. Edmunds’ Lauren McCay will tell you more about which EVs have the worst range in the video above!

Stick around to the end. The No. 1 spot is surprising. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
The number 1 spot is the bz4x and rz450e
2-3 years from now, with next-gen batteries... hopefully someone can make it a standard to have 350mi minimum on ANY EVs.
I only get 211 miles from my Nissan Leaf SL Plus 😭😭😭 Still way more than enough for a weeks worth of my driving though
I think the subtext here is ultimately more interesting than the headline. Namely all (except perhaps the "100 mile Mini,") the so-called "worst" vehicles on this list have PLENTY of mileage for most drivers for daily around-town/commuting to work duties. Charging infrastructure is ultimately going to keep most EVs from becoming a family's one and only car. But if you've got a plug at home, almost any of these EVs could be practical and effective daily drivers.
There in lies the flaw to your argument. Most people *do not* have the time for the charge of a standard plug. And the constant re-charging of smaller batteries, wares them out quicker, than bigger batteries.
Also, people are just trying to keep their normal fueling habits. Going from fueling once a week, to re-charging 3 days a week, is a tough sell 🤷
Very informative and humorous, you did a good job!😊
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video
I have an Audi Etron and have been traveling quite far and traveling at 85 mph plus. Today I stopped for a bit to eat and in the time we finished our meal the car was surprisingly fully recharged..
I was very pleased…after four or five hours of driving spending under an hour eating and recharging was pleasant.
We are experiencing very cold weather as well.
Don’t sweat the range
The E-Tron rocks! The charging curve is awesome.
The 2024 Volvo C40 is going to be increased to 252miles EPA for the dual motor model, it is more efficient with better drive train and larger battery and charging up to max 200KW
We bought your #2 but it's our daily commuter and errand car, and at just a little over 3000lbs drives like a Electric Go-Cart. we knew the range was short but we have others vehicles for road trips. Mini Cooper SE is an excellent city car and amazing fun short trip car, zero regrets and very affordable way to experience a full BEV experience.
Extremly cool and funny presentation
It's shocking seeing the prices of used nissan leafs that only have 30mi range on old battery selling for 5k. The battery replacement may cost more than the car. Carlos Ghosn should be in jail for that car.
At the time when they had 100+ miles of range brand new, there was only 2 or 3 other EVs on the market. Not Nissans fault that electric car battery replacements are expensive. Just don’t buy one
He'd walk right out of jail again though!
that's why you lease evs until they finally get the tech right
Interesting. I just say I liked the lighthearted and upbeat presenter 😊
Nice video, but it gives the impression that range is the most important factor in selecting an EV.
Agree. Almost all of the so called "worst" cars on this list still have plenty of range for most drivers' daily commuting/errand running duties.
You're that one-dimensional in your thinking? It's only ONE of the few lists you should check when buying a car.
@@twystedhumour I agree with you 100%
Once you're over 220 or so of range, charging speed is more important than overall range.
250 range is a tad bit less than half a tank in a bad ass gas vehicle, for me range is everything, specially for the prices you’re paying for those EV’s
But for now, I’ll stick to gas, it’s simply better ⛽️
How Edmunds turned into... This...
LOVE this commentator! Great voice and knowledge
I wonder what the real range of any of these models would be in a typical Montreal winter that lasts about 5 months. I'm guessing about 30% less.
You really do deliver your videos with such fun, making them super engaging...!
Just brilliant...
😍
Agreed
informative video and nice editing work , though it honestly felt over acted to the point of cringe . it felt like it was marketed to a disney kids show
a hybrid version of all these vehicles especially the mazda would be nice
This woman is a star 🤩Great video. Thank you for the info !
😅😅😅😅 amazing presentation! I didn’t even know Mazda even had an EV and I own a CX-5 😂😂😂
What about charging speed? Winner Porsche Taycan!
THANK YOU
The last one is probably perfect for those new 15 minute cities.
Best range, but do it relative to battery size. These Hummers are a joke! 🤡
1:55 also there is an updated version just over the horizon. I'm told it will have an updated powertrain, given battery size isn't the problem here, that could go a long way to fixing the cars "less than awesome" range.
6:35 honestly I think these vehicle is a textbook case of why companies need to stop trying to blindly copy tesla.
Toyota probably would have done much better to just make a fully BEV version of the RAV4, Corolla, or Camry. Yes, there is a niche market for EV "weirdness" but the more time goes by, the more I'm starting to think that's a minority. people love Toyota because "it just works" and while they didn't 100% throw that away here, they did get dangerously close.
They should all be advertised with cold-range. Meaning, 38-45 degrees. We all know the cold drastically reduces range.
Surprised by how most of the EVs in this list surpass EPA estimates. Shame that Toyota couldn't do the same for the bZ4x.
How the e-tron sportback has lower range despite a more aerodynamic shape than the regular model is also perplexing but that just goes to show how crossover coupes are crap 😆
Almost all vehicles beat their EPA estimates if you drive them for efficiency.
These brand is not doing more than EPA because it want to. It just dont care of EV division to do the more time consuming 5 cycle test. EPA give EV two choice of testing method, one is only two cycle like any other gas car, one test more 5 cycle but give 10% more range for most EVs. That's where Tesla, lucid, hyundai was doing. that's where their EV able to give 300plus miles on EPA.
I gotta see this.....🧐
More of this presenter please.
Wtf am i going to do with 100 Miles 😂
I wish people would stop using the term range anxiety. It's an idiotic description and manipulation at best. It should just be called range understanding.
First, the EPA range is combined city/highway, so generally the highway range will be 10 or 15% lower than advertised.
Then, you only fast charge when low to 80%. Usually 10-80 is quoted, which means you realistically only can use only 70% of the stated range. Losing 15 percent and 30% means 45% of what was advertised. So if the marketing materials say 300 miles, expect to be down for a half hour to an hour (assuming there is no line at the one working charger) every 165 miles.
Why not tested Tesla ?
You don't mention what accessories you were using during the trip.
Like the A/C , Heater, Headlights, Sound system. Driving 70mph. on the interstate at night with all lights on and A/C running with sound system on. Bet you can't get 200 miles..on the best.
EVs are doing ota's? Do you mean Tesla does otas.
This video is a perfect example of why EVs will never replace gasoline cars and it will be hybrids or plug in hybrids. Nobody who is rich enough to buy one of these will actually be willing to deal with the extra inconvenience over a hybrid just to save $10/mo on gas. Its such a large step back in every aspect its mind blowing.
The bz4x and RZ are the worst options. The mx30 is far better because of its looks premium cabin and driving experience
The bZ4x and RZ being lackluster doesn't make the MX-30 any better. I think the Mazda is even a worse value proposition vs the Toyota. Let's just say that unlike Toyota, there isn't much expectation on Mazda to produce a competitive EV from the get-go due to their limited resources.
No I no longer want a EV because all the EV fans have been lying about Toyota so I will stay with Toyota for the rest of my life
Drive fossil...
terrible presentation the leaf and bolt are never sold as long range, they are city cars period and the cheapest in their segment but continue in your propaganda..all EVs are nothing but placeholders for government compliance, not reliable at all especially when power is out like here where I live now, my generator works good though
Placeholders??? Hmm, that actually makes sense.
EVs are not good for the environment and the electricity to change them comes mostly from coal power plants! And if you look into the cobalt mining being done in Africa you will be very sad. Worse than blood diamonds.
EVs are for virtue signaling, ICE vehicles are for driving.

Track day?
you can barely do 60 minutes full throtle with an ev
@@jamdc2000 Why? That's not what they're made for.
