Honkai: Star Rail is the most recent title made by HoYoverse, and also the third game released in the Honkai series. The game serves as an expansion on the Honkai Universe, and unlike the previous titles that focus more on a single setting, Star Rail focuses on a small cast traveling to different worlds and exploring the Universe.
The Honkai Universe is a connected space-time structure between the HoYoverse games. For now, the only games confirmed by the developers to be part of it are GGZ, Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, and Honkai: Star Rail.
This video aims to give players that are both new to the Honkai series or are already Honkai veterans, a basic understanding of the game's lore and initial setting. We talk about the Honkai Universe and how all the HoYoverse games are connected and lay down the foundation for some of the most essential concepts in the game, such as: Aeons, Paths, Factions, Stellarons, etc. I hope to lay a solid foundation for anybody who just started, or is planning to start the game soon and allow them to grasp the fundamentals of Honkai Star Rail's lore right of the gate.

The devs confirmed that Genshin is another "World" on the Tree, not another "Universe". Alien Space uses the inconsistent HI3 translation where "worlds" are translated as "Universes". Yes, GGZ says that Honkai comes from another Universe (at least the creature that was behind Honkai there), but we know almost nothing about that other Universe. The Kevin LN happens in another "world", not another Universe. YUI explains in the same LN how that's not a separate Universe, and I quote: "...no one has ever been able to go to a truly parallel universe because parallel universes just don't exist. There seem to be many possibilities in the world." - YUI, Deep Rising LN
@@HomuLabs wait why have you even decided Genshin is a world on the tree? Don't tell me its because of that one dvalin teaser and words from a honkai dev that the dvaling on the screen is indeed dvalin... Genshin devs haven't even dropped a single hint for the game to be a part of honkaiverse nor is the world itself showing any signs of being affected by any form of honkai.
i watch both IslandXD and HomuLabs video, the video quite difference but they all the truth.
Like Nahida mention that, probably HomuLabs and IslandXD both saw the gigantic ShroomBoar of Honkai Universe, and presenting part of it, so they all are the truth but not correct explanation about ShroomBoar of the Honkai Universe itself.
I hope we have more researcher akademiya of Honkai Universe to share their theory about lore from Hoyoverse game.

Every time I read more and more about Honkai and Genshin lore, I'm more convinced that the writers basically locked themselves up with every book from Carl Jung and Aleister Crowley, every book on Gnosticism and similar religions, every book on Quantum Mechanics and a huge stash of the green thing. And they came out a year later basically knowing the true nature of reality and decided the best way to spread the information was through gacha games. Absolute genius madmen, they are.

@@MrTigracho At least in Genshin, gacha is related to the idea of how "fate" is manipulated by Celestia, who are the ones in control of how stars are displayed in Teyvat.
For real, anyone who wants to write a good fantasy story will gain more from reading Carl Jung or Aleister Crowley than from watching a thousand fantasy series.

I just started my Honkai Star Rail journey a few days ago. I can't tell you how much I'm loving all the juicy lore and world building this game has to offer. Everything is interlinked in so many ways it almost feels overwhelming. Honkai Star Rail is my first Honkai game so these videos really help a lot to get a better grasp of the universe. I was surprised to hear Welt mention the Honkai in his voice dialogue in Star Rail as I knew that Welt was an important hero in the Honkaiverse - so I had to find some answers in this channel.

I find it interesting abt how Genshin (fantasy) and HSR (science fiction) portray their "gods"
Archons in Genshin aren't "omnipotent" or "incomprehensible" beings, they have flaws, feelings and close-to-human traits, their thought process might be different from mortals but that's only bc of their age and experiences, not their nature
Aeons in HSR meanwhile are incomprehensible (or barely comprehensible) beings who tend to be disconnected from mortals, even those who form "factions" under their name; their only interest is in those who follow their "path"
Archons also have a semblance of "order" between them while there's nothing that unites Aeons together, except by "groupings" by mortals which the Aeons may not even be aware of

So Aeons are basically this world’s version of Herrschers or something? Do you think Honkai is affecting this world/universe/whatever the hell it’s classified as or is it one where Honkai’s been “beaten”? Also, just wondering, do you think Kiana would be able to freely go into other worlds since she’s the Herrscher of Finality and can control Honkai energy at least in her world (at least I think that’s how being a Herrscher of Finality works)? Imagine if she teleports into the train and is like, “Hey Mr. Welt, how are you? Dr. Tesla is really mad at you for leaving.”
It's very complicated to paint a picture between Aeons and Herrschers. I believe that Aeons are above Herrscher. Maybe a better comparison would be between Aeons and the Cocoon of Finality. The only similarity between the two, for now, is that they're both higher dimensional beings that can manipulate Imaginary Energy. And about Kiana travelling to other Worlds... it remains to be seen. I don't think she will leave the Moon until she finishes her job there. But in Ch 35, Siegfried asked her if she could use her power to travel to other planets in the Solar System and she said that she doesn't think so.

Lore has always been a bit confusing, back track-y and open-ended in this series (not saying that’s a bad thing) anyway. Who knows though, maybe as time moves on and Kiana grows and gets more used to her powers she can do all kinds of things.

So I just want to say that, at the very least, HG2 and HI3 likely take place in different universes.
At the end of the Reborn Arc of HG2, Kiana and Mei literally go to a different universe, the universe where their games version of the Will of Honkai came from. And talking to multiple people who can read chinese, they also told me that it is indeed "universe" is the term used there, as I don't know how to read chinese my self.
And in Alien Space, Void Archives calls the "similar, yet different realities that sprout from the imaginary tree" as "parallel universes in layman's terms".
In Alien Space, it was most definitely a mistranslation. In Chinese, they speak of Parallel Worlds. HI3 routinely mistranslates it.
As for HG2, it is confirmed to be a part of the same Universe by several sources. During the Legacy Arc, Fu Hua's HI3 life is described as an alternate world. Several characters from HI3 have traveled to/cast shadows to HG2, and author's word has described HG2 and HI3 as alternate 'World Lines' within the Honkai Universe.
So it is incredibly unlikely that HG2 is in another universe.

@@alexvazhayinal522 The separate Honkai Universe Kiana and Mei travel to is not very clearly defined, but it can be assumed it's a separate thing. We still need to go and compare some of the hanzi used and really analyse the text, but it's worth noting that Honkai Universe in reference to where the games take place is never used in the lore itself. It's a term used by the devs. The thing mentioned in Reborn is new, and refers to a universe óf Honkai, one that is the origin of Honkai as a phenomenon, which is a whole different can of worms.
As for Genshin and Star Rail, we know Teyvat exists within the Universe but we don't know much about what kind of world it is and how it may connect. Star Rail on the other hand takes place over several worlds, so you can consider it to be more like 'zooming out'.

The term Honkai Universe was always a term used by the only devs and never used in the lore itself. Until now with the universe Honkai originates from that Kiana and Mei went to.
The "Honkai Origin Universe" in Reborn is something new, that refers to a universe of Honkai, one that is the origin of Honkai as a phenomenon.
Genshin/Teyvat is a World in the "Honkai Universe" but no idea where, what kind of world it is, whether it is on the Tree or is a Bubble World, or how it connects to the other worlds.]
But now I'm a bit confused by HSR, if it takes place in the same "Honkai Universe" then did Welt just from Earth travel to a world in a different Galaxy in the same Universe?
And this is reminding me a lot of how Type-Moon's cosmology works...

Thank you for making this very comprehensible. In the heat of the start of the game I really didn't understand a few conepts like the stellaron. One thing I am wondering about is what determines the characters to wield certain elements as it doesn't seem to be determined by their path or a battlesuit or smth. Do you know?
So after reading through the data bank in game and himeko dialogue before the first warp jump, im confused. The data bank states that the universe can be represented by the tree, with imaginary energy / SoQ seperating 'galaxies', therefore humans were unable to travel beyond their own 'worlds'. This implies that a 'world' would be on a galactic scale. However, himeko then refers to the same theory, but with the galaxy being the tree? and a leaf being a solar system. Is this a case of the game just freely using galaxy and universe interchangeably or is there something im missing? It makes the idea of a 'world' so confusing. Is a 'world' a galaxy, planet, solar system? and is the express travelling around the universe, galaxies, or planets?
While HoYoverse is very consistent with the lore through their games, they are not consistent with how they present it. Yes. Fro some reason, the word "Galaxy" is used interchangeably in the game to refer to both, the "Universe", and actual galaxies. It's up to the discretion of the players to use context clues to differentiate between the meaning of the word here. We don't really know how big is a "world", or if all worlds are the same. We know just that they can include planets, solar systems, and even multiple Galaxies. They are separated by Imaginary Energy and are connected through the Imaginary Tree. In order to travel between them you need to have certain control over Imaginary. That's why Aeons and Emanators, who are beings regarded as higher powers in terms of Imaginary can travel through worlds.

There is no direct connection between the 2. It's just that, Silver Wolf is another 'Bronya' from a different branch of the Imaginary Tree. They are basically the same person coming from different worlds. We have something similar in HI3 as well. We have Bronya Zaychik, who is the Bronya from the main story, and we have Bronie, another Bronya from a Bubble Universe who shares a lot of similarities personality-wise and appearance-wise with Silver Wolf. Also, they are both hackers. That's why you might see some HI3 players refer to Silver Wolf as Bronie. But, all in all, there are a lot of Bronyas in HoYo games. GGZ has 2, HI3 has 2, (3 if you want to count PROMETHEUS as a Bronya) and HSR already has 2 from the beginning.
There must be an Aeon of the trash can, on the path of which the main character will go. To miss such trolling would be Mihoyo's main omission

I think it's pretty understandable choice for them to have used 'universe' over 'world' as there's a larger overlap in english for 'worlds' to refer to 'planets', but 界 isn't used that way because 星 covers it instead. Since there's no functional difference between say 'parallel world' and 'parallel universe' for us in english, there is no contradiction in saying that each 'branch' or 'bubble' is a 'universe' or 'world' of its own except for when you try to define the Imaginary Tree/Sea of Quanta combo as 'one universe' which is only a problem because of differences in language nuances. I just hope you don't have to deal with Mihoyo going 'Hey guys, here's something from a world/universe that's NOT on the Imaginary Tree or Sea of Quanta'... it hasn't happened yet, right ? ...right ?
I mostly agree that the differences between "world" and "universe" in ENG are not that large. But this raises some other issues. My personal pet peeve is that they already use a lot of terms interchangeably, (like Galaxy and Universe) now if we add "world" and "Universe" to that list, it creates a clusterfu** of terms that the player has to differentiate using context clues and prior knowledge because you'll never know when they use a certain term in a certain context. Also, HSR mentions the word "multiverse" (多宇宙) in IX's description. This is interesting because this is the first time they use this term in any Honkai game. They always use 宇宙 to refer to the Honkai Universe, and this is consistent in all of their games. This changes things because 'multiverse' used there implies other structures like the IMG Tree. Also, I know that there is a bit of a debate regarding GGZ being part of the Honkaiverse, but the CEO confirmed it in multiple interviews + other clues that I'm not gonna go into detail. That's important because, if we consider GGZ part of the Honkai Universe, that basically confirms that multiple Universes (Imaginary Tree-like structures) exist. So calling the Honkai Universe a 'multiverse' makes even less sense, because that would imply that there are multiple 'multiverses'.
Honkai Star Rail is the 4th iteration since there was Houkai Gakuen(which shut down very early on so almost no one knows it existed), Houkai Gakuen 2(just the og Houkai Gakuen with some fixes), Houkai Gakuen 3 (HI3), and HSR

More i think about it more stellarons sounds like a manifestation of Honkai. We already knew honkai manifests in all kinds of ways. What if in rest of the civilizations it manifests as stellarons instead of herrschers? I mean cancer of all worlds being able to talk with people being contained in certain people all sounds like honkai qualities to me. Universes are absolutely massive and irl it is actually theorized to be infinite. Maybe same goes for honkaiverse too. So it makes sense in some corner of the universe we have herrschers and silica based beasts and in the other side of the universe we have them as stellarons causing problems and maybe in another corner of the universe it manifests as slimes? Just a thought i had. In fact stellarons might be doing of nanook as he tries to destroy the universe and stellarons contribute to that.
So basically Stellarons=Manifestation of Honkai=Doing of nanook. Might be wrong though.

I play hi3 since 03/2020 but left it for many years. It was kind of a mistake to leave it and also playing the game again. And now this.... It is better to get done with what i missed in hi3 first
So my understanding thus far from available information with rough interpolation in-between:
Aeon
Ascended beings that are of human/non-human origin that are gods in the cosmic scale, they are tethered/cofined to their "Primum Mobile" and open a "Path" corresponding to their nature upon ascension to Aeon-hood that would not disappear even upon their demise. They cannot intervene with things outside of their "Path" and "Primum Mobile" but will occasionally clash with others that are diametrically opposed (The Destruction culling the overcrowding due to The Abundance). If we likened it to a similar phenomenon on Honkai universe, the closest one would be Kiana's journey on Honkai Impact 3rd where she attained FInality after assimilating the Cocoon.
I'm still workshopping it so please add-subtract-revise my statement if I miss something
Your understanding of Aeon is pretty spot on. Some things that I would add is that, while they are confined to the laws of "Primum Mobile" and they don't have "free will", how much of this applies to them depends on the Aeons. We have Aha who, due to Elation beings a philosophy with much liberty, excused a character much more similar to "mortals" than other Aeons. They have been seen even capable of having a relatively normal conversation with mortal beings and even displaying multiple emotions.
Regarding Kiana on the other hand, while it's true that after she became one with the Cocoon, she is much closer to Aeons, I would put her more on the same levels as Emanators. She still has a physical body and she is able to think freely and not be confined by the concept of Finality, even if she has control over it.
Thanks for the reply, now I got the basic gist of the growth Hierarchy on Honkai. Now it really make more sense if we put Kiana as Emanators instead of "hatchling" Aeon. I find it funny that there are parallel between The Finality spreading the Cocoon across timeline resulting in Honkai outbreaks because it wants to embrace humanity, and The Destruction spreading Stellarons across space resulting in Antimatter Legion attacks for whatever reason it has.
The Hunt is the culling of Abundance, not Destruction.
Just a dumb thought, but Trailblazers jump from world to world to explore/connect with people and we know Lumine/Aether in Genshin were basically doing the same.
Could they be trailblazers too? Do they even follow a path at all? There are some NPCs in the game that are followers of Akivili and travelled from world to world without the Express, so I think it could be feasible, specially if our genshin MCs are Emanators.
Being pathstriders would also kinda explain why they can use elements without visions.
I mean, I though about it too. For them to be able to jump between worlds means 2 things. One, they have a way of using the Star Rail. Or two, they are Emanators and have the ability to travel though Imaginary Space on their own.
This single universe intrepretation doesn't make much sense unless you want to believe there are multiple copies of Earth, the Solar Sistem, and the Milky Way galaxy running around separated by who knows how many light years like Star Trek with it's multiple copies of Earth and Sol. Being able to reach GGZ from HI3 simply by having spaceship just doesn't feel right.
Wouldn't the people in Star Rail notice the existance of multiples of Earth, Sol, and Milky Way? There should be at least 4 (one for FM2TM, HG2/GGZ, HI3, and the Captain's alternate of HI3).

I don't think that they are the same, but I believe that they function in a similar manner.
I believe there's also a giant tree with floating cubes in space liyue in HSR, super sus ...
That is the Ambrosial Arbor, a tree that produces fruits that grant immortality planted by Yaoshi the Abundance. It has nothing to do with the Imaginary Tree, but I agree that HoYoverse really likes trees. :))
I think the Irminsul is a attempt at making an artificial imaginary tree. The main difference is how it can handle time.
The imaginary tree is as stated, a bundle of multiple branching timelines of a world. As proven in HI3 by Otto, you can effectively alter the past and create a new branch of timeline but it would be difficult. This is an altered past.
The Irminsul however cannot do this. When an attempt was made to change the past by Rukkhadevata and Scaramouche, what happened was that they merely changed how people remember and recorded the event, the event still happened. For Rukkhadevata, all her achievements and tales about her are attached to Nahida instead while she was retgoned. For Scaramouche, the tatarasuna incident and his time as Scaramouche still happened but history was altered to not include his involvement. This means the Irminsul changes history not the past and cannot host more than 1 timeline.
I think they are completely different things with the only thing in common is being tree-like.

I'm very confused about the existence of Aeons. Do Aeons exist only within their respective world (that of star rail), or do they also exist separately in other world (such as Genshin and HI3), or do they exist on a higher plane, as in that they exist in all worlds as the same being?
There is an Aeon of finality in Star Rail, what does that tell us about finality in Honkai Impact? Is finality also an Aeon in Honkai Impact? If so, could other Aeons exist or come into existence within the world of Honkai Impact?
And what about Genshin? Could the primordial one be an Aeon?
Edit: So what I've read is that a lot of people think, is that The Aeon of finality IS the cocoon of finality, with Honkai being an imaginary energy that serves finality and HoFin being similar to an emanator.
Stellarons are either also following finality, OR different and following the Aeon of destruction. It's not confirmed yet that stellarons are really the result of the Aeon of destruction.
As for Genshin, if the primordial one is an Aeon, that his shades could be seen as emanators perhaps?
Than you also have the second who came/the second throne.
The second throne could be either another Aeon, or Aliens like the Sky People, (the united civilisation was pretty advanced after all). Or they could be humans from the HI3 world.
Than there's also Asmoday to remember, who is very similar to the herrschers that are reflections of the finality. Finality probably also plays a role in Genshin, the question is, what role?
Aeons, from what we know, are beings that can exist throughout the entire Honkai Universe. Some, like IX the Nihility, are mentioned to be able to preside over multiple Universes.
I don't think that the Aeon of Finality and the Cocoon of Finality are the same. You can talk to Welt on the Express and he says that the Aeons and the "enemy" from his home are not the same. It's more likely for the Cocoon to be an Emanator of Finality rather than the Aeon itself.
Regarding GI, I have no clue. I know too little about the game's lore to attempt to talk about it. But the Primordial One also seems more like an Emanator to me rather than an Aeon. We know that Aeons usually don't take interest in mortal afraid and they don't have a physical body. They exist in a higher dimension and follow the philosophies of their paths. The little that I've read and know about the Primordial One doesn't seem to match that.

As for the primordial one, it's true that even within the Genshin lore we know very little about him, which is also part of the charm if you ask me.

We don't know how much affection the primordial one really had for humanity. The scribe of Ishtaroth says he humanity was his most cherished creation and that he did everything he did for the sake of humanity, but can we really blindly trust this scribe?
there's nothing stated about him actually ruling over humanity either.
We also don't know if he really had a physical body. The only description we have of him is from the same sage, who never even saw him himself.
Those descriptions sound pretty Aeon-like if you ask me. Androgynous in nature, wings and a crown.
Last but not definitely not least,
The word for primordial one and alogene (someone who can ascended to godhood), can both be 原神 in Chinese. Remember that anyone or anything can ascend to Aeon-hood.

I am not very convinced with hoyoverse being a singular universe though. More and more i think about it it being a multiverse makes more sense. Especially considering singular universe also means GGZ and Genshin ToT and HI3 happen in same universe. It makes more sense to me to think of imaginary tree as a multiverse that holds worlds and imaginary space being the space between universes. This also means astral express isn't doing interstellar travel but travels between universes which holds different worlds. I suppose HSR will clear this up. Or maybe you could do that with a video on honkai cosmology.
I mean... the Honkai Cosmology is very complicated and the way it is presented to us is very inconsistent throughout all the game. But Welt mentions clearly in HSR that the world of HI3 is just another world in the Universe. Unfortunately, it's not connected by the Star Rail yet, so he can't return. But he even asked Herta to send his family a signal and let them know that the are well. Also, if GGZ can be considered part of the Honkaiverse, which is should because the devs themselves stated that multiple times, then we know for sure that there are beings beyond the Honkai Universe. Calling it a multiverse wouldn't make sense cause that would imply that there are multiple multiverses.
@@HomuLabs 1- The fact that welt can contact tesla doesn't necessarily mean they are in same universe. Considering astral express is a universe traveling train it can very well send messages to other universes as well.
2- Characters being above the multiverse is not something uncommon in fiction and doesn't necessarily mean that multiverse is just an universe. It just means said character is outside and above the multiverse dimensionality wise. One such example would be TOAA from DC multiverse. TOAA is above the DC multiverse dimensionality wise but this doesn't mean DC multiverse is just a single universe. It just means those characters are above the cosmology of their verses.
3- Anti Entropy visual novel very well describes honkai cosmology as a Type 3 multiverse (einstein says the world they live in is countably infinite and says there are possibly uncountably infinite worlds). A countably infinite universe can not contain uncountably infinite worlds. Not to mention parralel universes simply do not work within a single universe even if it's infinite.
4- The way you explain honkai universe is same as again a multiverse. Worlds contained within a bubble and surrounded by imaginary energy and can't reach each other. That is a multiverse not an universe.
5- To travel to other worlds in honkai we never used space travel. We used herrscher of the voids powers to transcend dimensionality. Bronya spells this out to us when he uses herrscher powers to transcend his dimensionality in planet directory. For example theater of domination which is an imaginary space that is anchored to imaginary tree kiana always used HoV powers to open up a wormhole to get there. There was no space travel.
So… is the Stellaron in our body… A HERRSCHER CORE?!?

Seems like Pom-pom is the heart of Akivili. Otherwise the train not requiring power at all to travel the universe is impossible, unless of course with the power of Aeon of Trailblaze who's path is to travel and explore.
From the context of the video, it seems that the Astral Express travels between worlds (tree branches), but in the game there are constant hints that we are traveling through the same galaxy, and the most obvious example of this is the Interastral corporation that we meet everywhere.
And a question that may seem silly - can we measure the strength of characters from different games with the usual numbers of damage?
In all 4 games, we start with approximately the same numbers (with the exception of Kiana's HI3, who is already a trained Valkyrie) and further pumping goes more or less evenly, but the threshold DPS is different. For example, the dps of herrshers from HI3 is very far from the same genshin, which is logical, given that playable archons do not have the heart of a god. In GGZ, it looks like the maximum dps can be even higher than in future games, given the cruelty of that world, the outer gods, etc.

No. That is a common misunderstanding. Himeko mentioned multiple times that it was created by Akivili. Also, it doesn't add up timeline-wise, since the Express is at least more that a couple of hundred years old, and we know that the Second Divine Key was still on Earth at that time.

Just some correction, technically GGZ is not in "THE" Honkai universe because it does not exist on the imaginary tree. It is an entirely separate setting despite the similarity to later games.
The GGZ's cosmology is a bit complicated. I am working on a separate video trying to explain it, but I didn't want to complicate things more than necessary. For now, we have some conflicting aspects, but there is plenty of evidence to connect GGZ to the Imaginary Tree. Yes, it's true that the Imaginary Tree is never mentioned there, but they expand a lot on the Cosmology and things are very similar. In the Deep Rising Short Novel, it is said that "no one has ever been able to go to a truly parallel universe because parallel universes just don't exist." Also, they use a lot of similar terminology in all of the games, including GGZ, like "Sea of Stars", which is also another word used to describe the Honkai Universe. When the HI3 manga started in 2015, it was presented as a parallel world of GGZ. Now, I agree, that may have been retconned. But, there are plenty of interviews that the devs had talking about their vision of the Honkai Universe, and GGZ was also mentioned by them to be part of. Now, I also agree that there are plenty of counterarguments to this, this is why I chose to cover the topic in a separate video.

I'll try explaining in simple terms. There are pockets of observable space. We don't know how big they can be, be they can house multiple planets, solar systems, galaxies, and even civilizations. These are called "Worlds". HI3 translates them as "Universes". These Worlds are connected by the Imaginary Tree. All the worlds connected by the Imaginary Tree are part of the Honkai Universe. It's also important to note that the term Honkai Universe is not used directly in the games, but is used a lot by the devs when they describe the vision behind the Universe of their games.

Besides some cosmology stuff that's explained in HSR anyway, you don't need to understand HI3 to play HSR. All you need to know is that Welt comes from HI3. That's it! Enjoy the game!

No. The AEONS are only in 1 Leaf of the Imaginary Tree, which is why the AEONS are nowhere in sight in Honkai 3rd or Genshin, just like how Celestia or Cocoon of Finality are only in their own Specific Leaf.

i dont nessarily think that them being officially called bubble "worlds" debunks the possiblity of it being a multiverse. As worlds bubble worlds come in variable sizes, such as some can be big as universes, likely like hsr, and while bubble worlds can be extremely small, like sumeru, or the moon bubble prometheus is from. tl;dr i think we should think of the word "worlds" in this context less like "planets" but like plane of existence, or a realm. but this is just my perspective SDJKLFSAJKL
