Flux3on The key fact to know is that in a two game total point affair. In a simple two way tie scenario, let’s say player “A” leads player “B” by $10k after game 1, due to all players having the chance double up in final jeopardy, the lead heading into game 2 tends to be considered halved because if player “A” trails player “B” by $5k, if both players double up in final jeopardy in game 2, player “B” would win game 2 over player “A” by $10k, resulting in a tiebreaker.
Hell I thought the tiebreaker question would be done finale style not regular question style. Seemed a little confusing to me since is hardly ever happens
That's why I hate tiebreakers. The entire game is spent fighting each other on pretty hard trivia and smart wagers, but once you tie it's basically just a race to see who hits the buzzer first after the softball question they throw at you for the tiebreaker. It's pretty much like ending a final soccer match with penalty kicks, it's anticlimactic as hell.
I'm sure that the rules were explained to the contestants either before the show or before the tie-breaker itself. It seems like there was an edited jump from the regular Final Jeopardy! to the tie-breaker.
A tie in the 1996 Teen tourney at the end of FJ! on the second day of the finals was played. Both players had over the $25K guarantee(at the time) for first place at the end of day two, but the tiebreaker was played to see who would get the spot in the TofC(through 2000, the Teen champion played in the TofC as well). Other ties have happened at the end of quarter final and semi final tournament games after FJ! five other times, and tiebreakers were played to determine winners of those games.
I protest, I protest, I protest profusely. 20 years, watching your show every day, and the Teen tournament was the best challenge of all since Rutter and Jennings. So back and forth it came to Alan and Jeff, and they both risked every penny they equally won. It was a tie. A TIE!!! They were equal and without any question , both should have won the 75,000. I just blurted out the first state that came to my mind before Jeff said his answer, and I somehow nailed Tennessee. I know next to nothing about Civil War 😂
What if he had answered wrong? Is there a dollar amount attached to it so that by subtraction the other guy would have won? Or could the 2nd person then win by giving a correct response?
The official rule is that you cannot win by default - you _must_ give a correct response in order to win. If the first person got it wrong, the second person would have the option to buzz in and respond. If the second person failed to buzz in or responded incorrectly, they would go to a second tie-breaker clue.
Oooo, I feel so smart: I guessed the correct answer. (And no, I’m not a teen. But I’m not an American either, so my education wasn’t full of such Civil War trivia, er, history!)
I think the tie breaker should be done the same way the final answer is. Both can answer and it doesn't just come down to who can click the button the fastest
They get paper and pencil to figure out their wagers before final. Surely he already worked out if they both bet everything and got it right then they would tie. More amazing is that the scenario even happened in the 2 day event.
