Gigabyte G5 KD Unboxing 2023 | Best Value RTX 3060 Laptop?

This is an unboxing video of the Gigabyte G5 KD. My version comes with an RTX 3060 and was $1399 here in Australia! There are two others with similar specs, the MSI Katana and Acer Nitro 5. They have i7 and i9 processors but I stuck with the G5 KD due to the favorable reviews, and issues noted with the Katana/Nitro.
The MSI Katana has reports of heat issues, due to the smaller chassis, and the Acer Nitro 5 power brick apparently doesn't provide enough power to the computer in performance mode, draining the battery while it is still charging.

Got this after christmas. This laptop is very powerful. It gets high temps in high demanding games, but you can easily fix that by disabling turbo boost in the power options with a little performance drop. I’m planning to buy an external monitor for it so I can multi task
Nice dude, it does everything right? Have notice it's gone up a few 100 bucks here in Australia after all the cyber Monday etc sales.
I have owned this laptop since Feb 2022. Worth every penny with the quality and specifications offered. It's only downside is that the charger heats up too quickly when used to play games. Maybe because the size of the charger is a little small so that the heat is not transferred efficiently. So I had to buy another bigger and better 3rd party charger. The battery also does not last long even for normal tasks. This means you have to use the charger all the time. Apart from that everything is perfect for a gaming laptop including its thermal performance. I hope you will enjoy this laptop as much as I do.
Hi Oliver, it's incredible value and it doesn't work up a sweat at all during video editing. Haven't used it for gaming yet, as I cut down a few years ago. I have a larger laptop with GTX1070 and looking at the benchmarks, the RTX3060 runs 25% faster. Did the charger on your G5 break? Just wondering why you bought a new one (apart from the heat).
@@DarrenYeoYT My charger its working fine since its new from the box. Only the heat its produced while heavy gaming is a bit worrying. Had to buy a new one that more big and bulky in size and the heating problem disappear. I think this problem might related to the charger being small and slim make the heat not dissipate efficiently.
Interesting, yes I noticed how the power brick has similar watt rating as a larger power brick I have in my GTX1070 laptop. But good to hear it didn't break or anything.

@@zzinsanezz hey man, sorry I haven't. Only have 2x 1080p monitors. It'd do fine with 4k monitors if you're not gaming.

I'm planning to buy a laptop (currently I have only PC) so I can use it when i'm traveling here & there. I think 6GB video card would be enough to play pretty much most games. Currently in my country there are offers for the Gigabyte G5 with i5-12500H + RTX 4050 (6GB) + 16GB RAM and only 512GB ssd (but ram & ssd can be upgraded in the future, so it doesn't matter) for roughly 1000 EUR (or $1100 USD) and I think this laptop is perfect for that price.
Yeah, it is an excellent deal and handle AAA games, video editing. Fan is noisy though.

i have an older g5 md with 3050.. it is good except it has 3 extremely anoying dead pixels :O, and i found this out too late.. hopefully yours didnt have any dead pixels
No dead pixels on mine fortunately :D you might have been able to make a warranty claim.

Hi mate, no issues or temperature issues. Fans get loud on full performance though. I just googled and found centrecom reduced it to $1299. I paid 1399 from them the other week.

Yeah I was comparing it to the Acer Nitro 5 (also with RTX3060). The Acer has power supply issues and discharges while plugged in. Otherwise there is the MSI Katana but I can see it having heat issues.. too thin.

whats the difference with this model G5 KD and G5 KE? with same cpu and gpu
I believe the KE has upgraded i5 processor, aluminium chassis and some new ports.

Acer Predator Helios 300 or Gigabyte g5 kd? same rtx 3060
Looks like the Helios 300 has a faster i7 processor and extra ram. Can also get it with RTX3070? Decent reviews too. I think the G5 KD is better value. But I don't need extra power.

You're welcome buddy. I use this mainly for video editing and productivity. Yesterday experimented with deep fake live program and it runs smoothly with the G5 KD. Using my laptop with gtx1070 was laggy.
