Good morning thank you for your vids I am just getting started on quail I live in the city under HOA Which is hard to do so we bought 10 bobwhite The kids love it
Thank you for watching my videos. I hope you are finding them helpful. I can't imagine trying to raise animals in an HOA. I bet that is very difficult to do.
When your dogs lick at things that don't make sense to us, usually is a good indicator that they are lacking specific minerals in their diet. The kid of your container had a slight film of dark residue, probably soil, maybe bits of dead leaves, ect. He's getting minerals out if that. I have a dog who likes to lick my bare legs after eating or drinking. Discovered, he was needing more salt in his diet. I got a small salt lick for small animals and now he picks that, not my leg to lick.
That is probably correct. Or it could just mean that he likes the way it tastes too. Who knows. Either way, if he wants to drink the dirty water off the lid of the container (or the deck) I won't keep him from doing it.
It is small chores, that we seem to put off. But they must be done eventually. I understand that as well. We have a hot streak in Ohio as well. Near 90+ for a week now. Guess we are in Indian Summer. Blessing be with you.
No kidding. The small easy things that can end up causing big problems are always the last to get addressed for me. I should learn from my mistakes and take care of those things much quicker.
Wishing it was 80 here. Sitting here at 36 degrees right now. Good chance we won’t even see 60 degrees today. Oregon went from summer to fall almost overnight!
I wasn’t ready either. It was a scramble to cover the fall garden and dig out the back up water bottles for the rabbits (they’re on a gravity feed waterer with nipples)
I know what you mean. It is bow season here but it is just too hot to go sit in the woods (and get eaten by bugs). We have a break coming this week though. Supposed to be a few days with highs in the 70s.
You could do some stacking quail cages in there. I built some a few years ago with PVC frames and dropping pans. They worked pretty well. Here is a video if on them. th-cam.com/video/PHiqgfU-35E/w-d-xo.html
I will probably have to do that eventually. Right now it is just as easy to just move them but eventually I won't be able to do that any more I suppose. :)
Slightly Rednecked how long do you keep them in the brooder? We’ve been having some die in the brooder and it’s been over a week. Not sure but I think they are piling up and crushing the ones on the bottom.
My cats like to drink out of puddles and they can get to the clean water in the house no problems we have a car door/window that's always open for them so I don't get it
Good point. I think it is still necessary though. The wood does shift a little and is possible for it to open up on it's own if shifted just right (like strong gust of wind or something).
Thanks for letting me hang out
Your dog sure loves the rain water 😋
I know. Not sure why but he always prefers it over water in a bowl.
Glad you are not giving up on quail 😁
No, not at all close to giving up on them. :)

My dog is a weirdo too. LOL! She likes rainwater that's been sitting on the deck. Much better than inside water.

Chris, then it would take the fun out. Procrastinators like us, work better under pressure.
lol. You have a point there.
Get you a bag of golf tees put a little glue on the tip and tap it in the holes.or a Little twig.

I wouldn't mind some cooler weather but not ready for 36 degrees just yet. :)

Well the heat here you can have...lost half the garden due to drought...can only take so much off in the heat but can bundle up in cold

fill holes with toothpicks.
do you use river sand to replenish sandboxes?
That would be the easy way to do it. :) The sand I use is just play sand from the hardware store.
My dogs are the same way about water, they prefer the puddles.
Crazy dogs. :)
Any suggestions for a 10 ft by six foot shed for indoor quail hutch?

... I love you honey. 👍🏼🤦🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🥰🥰😆🤗💕💙 ...
Thanks.
Slightly Rednecked ... Okay, you are awesome 👏🏼😆🙋🏻♀️
Have You thought about changing the latch design ?
I think a window shash latch would work
That's not a bad idea. I might look into doing that.
Fill your old screw holes with filler putty to make them easier to reuse.
I will probably have to do that eventually. Right now it is just as easy to just move them but eventually I won't be able to do that any more I suppose. :)
Are your hen still laying where do you keep your light in the sand box also
They are still laying. I have a video coming out this morning that shows the light in more detail. It is over the sand box and the open section both.
what size wire do you use on your brooder and what size wire do you use on your grow out cage?
I use 1/2 inch hardware cloth on my cages. In the brooder box I just use a large plastic tub so there isn't any wire on it.

Why even use the bolt holder . The bolt will hold the doors closed when they come down
It isn't very secure without the holder. The door could be easily opened by a raccoon or strong wind without it.
My cats like to drink out of puddles and they can get to the clean water in the house no problems we have a car door/window that's always open for them so I don't get it
I am not sure why either. Must taste better to them.
Hutches are a waste of time. I just staple my birds to a 2x4. You can get 20 birds on a 8 foot board...
That would sure keep them in place. :)
Why do you even need the female part of the lock at all? This might just be one of the few places a male can manage well without a female. :)
Good point. I think it is still necessary though. The wood does shift a little and is possible for it to open up on it's own if shifted just right (like strong gust of wind or something).
As long as the male part extend well past the edge of the door it couldn't come open without someone lifting the bolt.
First
Awesome. Thanks for watching.
