Having had 3 GoPros now, I've not had a "smooth" experience with any of them. Truthfully been really underwhelmed at how unreliable they've each been, from battery issues, to glitches, to corrupted footage. If you had to pick 1 camera of all you've reviewed here - which would it be Rodney?
If you’re looking for an alternative to GoPro since you’ve been burned in the past I would recommend the Osmo Action 4. Quality camera and I haven’t had any of the issues with the battery, glitching, or corrupted footage.

You could try the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

I would use the X2. You could get a lot cool shots with the 360 lenses.
