    I actually got the mini for school. The Smart Cover actually helps it from sliding around. Although, I do agree with you about the hand space for writing. I do think it's the perfect device if you're using it in addition to a computer. To have a small notebook/textbook nearby that doesn't take up so much room on your desk or on your bag as a full size is what I'm most happy with. It's a great complementary device. Thanks for your video, Janice!

      I agree with you! It’s more of a companion device / small notebook but I’m unable to justify the price of it for being just a notebook unless you have other uses for it 😄

    Janice - In the perfect world, a student will have 2 devices for school.: an iPad (11” / 12.9 pro) or a laptop and a iPad mini. The larger devices are ideal for taking notes/ writing papers and do the heavy lifting major course assignments. However when it comes to studying / reading, this is where the iPad mini shines. When you have a few minutes between classes, riding the bus or just hanging out in the student union, or even bed as you fall off to sleep you can whip out the iPad mini and read your notes, run through your flash cards or replay the video to make sure you caught that important comment made by the teacher. In addition Quick Note can be opened by taping the pen on the screen and you can write down that idea you want to use in your paper. Having all of the apps synced across multiple devices makes this ideal. The iPad mini hits that sweet spot where your iPhone is not big enough and your iPad Pro 12.9 / laptop is too big. If, however, a student is to only have a single device, the iPad mini is not the right choice. In reality, a student is going to have multiple devices, the iPad mini is a good choice for students as one of the tools in the mix.

      This is the route I went with as a university student. I have the older iPad mini (with the home button) as well as an older iPad Pro (11 inch) with keyboard.
      I use the mini to read articles and textbooks and the iPad Pro to write notes, do assignments, etc. The mini is much better and less heavy to hold for long periods to read ebooks on. I have an iPhone 12 mini so reading on it is quite an eye strain 😅

      Exactly. You are soooo right! I have a 13-inch surface laptop 3. And I don't really want another big device. The mini is really perfect! I'm a college student.

    • @sloanjulia17
      @sloanjulia17 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly! It fills the gap between a phone and a laptop perfectly, and as a student and now intern in a corporate office, carrying my laptop and mini along with my similarly sized planner and notebooks is going to be so much better than having two 13 inch devices in my bag every single day

    For left-handed people, the issue of your hand falling of the iPad mini at the end would not be a problem. We always start a sentence with our hand of the screen or page no matter the size of the iPad or even a regular notebook. I have watched a lot of reviews since I plan on buying an iPad mini yet I have never heard anyone mention this or include lefties in general...

      I'm also left-handed so i was thinking about it. Maybe I'll go to see if i find one in some supermarkets in my city and try if it's better the mini or a normal one, but I'll probably go with the mini since i have a macbook and the combination would be better for a student

    I love my iPad mini 5 and have been using it as a secondary device to study since 2019, and would upgrade to the mini 6 if it wasn’t still such a great device. It’s great if you are typing dependent for the majority of your notes on a computer or laptop - which is me. It’s great for one-hand content consumption when your phone doesn’t quite cut it. It’s the best device for me for reading ebooks, and I read a lot with my degree in the arts/humanities. But I agree, for those who want to have a stronger hand-note taking focus, and multi-tasking on split screen focus, perhaps a larger standard iPad, Air or Pro may be a better option.

    I use my iPad Pro 11’. I wanted it to be a sub for a laptop and with the addition of a keyboard and Apple Pencil it’s working amazing I haven’t noticed any limitations compare to a laptop. If it is within your budget, I definitely recommend it. If you’re going for just one device though, I don’t think the iPad mini will cover everything (such as note taking, lectures and writing-heavy assignments)

    I agree with you, I have the iPad mini 5 and mostly use it as a complementary device because it's too small. I like doing more heavy stuff on my laptop due to a bigger screen. I'd say it's awesome to take it with you to school and if you move around a lot. It's still an awesome device, but if you want something to replace a computer get the Pro or the Air if you're more on a budget.

    Selling my 12.9 Pro and buying the mini. 12.9 is huge, heavy and uncomfortable for a tablet. I'd now argue even 11 is too big if you want to mainly hold it and carry it around or travel with it for multimedia or digital planning. I'd now only suggest 11 or 12.9 if you need a pencil compatible device and a laptop substitute with an attached keyboard in one. Or if you use it more stationary like a second display or need more space for drawing less portably. As a portable device though? I absolutely regret buying it. Don't make my mistake, in most cases if you have a laptop don't go for 12.9

    I agree what you were saying here, the iPad mini is great for studying using the flascards method or you a type that always ‘on-the go’ student! But if you using the iPad for notetaking, it’s probably okay for some ppl but not for big hands especially ;)

  • @CeCeWatches
    @CeCeWatches 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    For the mini honestly, it's better to use it with a keyboard, you basically can maneuver everything from that and it's more comfortable than trying to write. Almost using it like a mini laptop but not fully. Mini 6 looks nice but still using and doing all of that with the mini 4.

    I used to have an iPad mini and I wanted to use it for school, but the thing was that in my school we usually had to keep out devices vertically and it was difficult for me as my Apple Pencil was getting less space to write and my hand kept falling off which was pretty annoying and as sometimes I wanted to keep the flow of writing, it felt like the pencil didn’t have palm rejection. I told my father about it and he noticed it pretty clear. He decided to get me an a iPad Pro and of course he couldn’t just throw it away, so he gave it to my friend who made a use of it. (She didn’t do note taking) Now I can use my iPad comfortably with no distractions 😊

    • @vnrays3775

      @@mibaja2364 It's the best tablet for clinician, as for the size, truly portable and comfortable to hold by 1 hand (compares to my 11" iPad pro). Taking quick notes with the apple pencil is great, also, though it's should be used mainly for scratching and jotting lines, the screen is a tad too small for serious notes.
      If you're worrying about jelly scrolling, it's definitely there, but not anything major. Reading articles and Uptodate and such apps is perfectly fine.
      About the storage or 5G, I think having the cellular makes more sense (since in my country the Hospital don't have that good Wfi coverage and the speed is terrible anyway). I find 64gb usable, but your usage may vary.

    I'm an economics student, and I'd rather prefer the iPad mini 6 to use for college. It is the perfect iPad for me.
    For taking notes, programming machine learning (Python and R), using Excel/Office, reading PDFs, watching videos, dialling, etc. The iPad mini is practical to use, is light to carry and to transport, weight is a really problem for me. Also, because the iPad mini 6 is more potent than the iPad 9, the iPad mini 6 supports heavy computational programs that I need to use.

    True. iPad Mini 6, in my opinion, is for the media consumer. It is portable and convenient to use but not to someone who will dedicate using it for studying. My sister owns an iPad Air 4 which is a necessity and a splurge because she's a medical student and loves watching, may it be TH-cam vids or Netflix. I am set to have my Mini 6 on Feb. I am done with school and all I do right now is work and watch TH-cam videos. Also buying it for the purpose of offloading usage from my iPhone, which I try to main solid battery life to hand down to family or sell. Just like you, I do not watch TH-cam videos on my phone.

    I think the sole purpose of the iPad mini was for Apple to compete with eReaders like the kindle and Nook. So with people who usually purchase the mini, like myself, I actually have the exact same one in the vid and am typing this comment on it, that’s what it’s good for. I occasionally,y use it to watch videos, check social media, but I mainly read and use GN as a journal for my PTSD symptoms. I had the iPad Air 4 and HATED the size. I also hated how hot it got. Definitely a mini user for life. This on being my 3rd one.

Its so cute small and you can take it everywhere , which is something that is hard to do with the ipad pro 12.9 inch bc its a size of a laptop 😂

      This is why I've asked for a Mini 6 for Xmas. I've found I don't take my 12.9 out on the bus or train, or in cafe, and leave it at home all the time. So I'm missing out on reading time.

      Not Janice, but a person in university with about as much iPad experience as it gets; I would say first of all if you don’t have a Laptop or desktop, get a laptop first, because there are a few things you just can’t to on an iPad because the so is so restricted. If you can spare the money get GoodNotes. It has become better and better and just „works“. For iPad I would also say: what’s your budget? I would say get the normal iPad if it’s tiny, just DONT get the 64 GB version it is ,,, really potentially not enough. Therefore; base pro if you want the better screen

    I'm not sure which iPad I want I have an old iPad air gen 2 which still works but it's on its last leg. I mean I would love a pro or air but I already got a huge gift this year aka my mac book air which I got extra upgrades. With the mini I'll probably enjoy reading much more with it and much easier to travel with but the iPad would be better for school and my casual drawing. So idk I'll figure it.

    I will say the iPad Air and pro are bigger but they are not cheap not saying the mini is cheap but it is cheaper and if you’re a student you don’t want to be spending a lot of money on something that you can get in a smaller size. Especially when you’re in college that you have to pay for so that’s why I also would go for the iPad mini for the prise the iPad Pro ranges form 1000 to like 1500.

      U can opt for the mediun sized ipad (pro 11 or air 4). Im afraid if u straight change to mini it will be such a huge difference to deal with. The only way to experiment it is to draw a cardbox with ipad mini size and use your imagination how u gunna use an ipad with that size 😂
