I always love to the reaction/perspective from real players watching haikyuu, because is very relatable, a lot of the moving moments that happen on the show a very realistic, the volleyball can be unrealistic from time to time but in general they get the gist of the sport really well. They teach the viewer about volleyball, they teach about being an athlete, and they teach that other teams aren't the "enemy" they are "rivals".

After he rejects joining the girls volleyball team out of shame or fear of being mocked on, we see our boy proudly wearing their uniform as he runs through the snow. You can't help but love the passion, and I'm sure you are going to love the series! Here's my ticket (sub and like :D) for my 1337th rewatch of the masterpiece that is Haikyuu!

"He's so friendly, what the hell?" is a pretty accurate summary of all four seasons of this show.
Incidentally, if you get to the point where you rewatch, you will probably find yourself crying MORE. So there's that to look forward to!

Based from what I heard, the author of this manga/anime, was a former volleyball player in high school. The author made this to increase the club members of volleyball in Japan, as it was declining, evidenced in this episode where the main character is the only club member. Now, it was reported that many people joined volleyball club because of this show.
Btw, great reaction and perspectives. This show is totally encapsulates the essence of not only volleyball, but sports in general. Hoping for episode 2! 😅

Brooo this was so great. This show is just such a good time and this reaction was great too. All I gotta say is let yourself just get fully immersed in it because the more you pay attention to the details the more it will be rewarded later on when they circle back round to it. And please, take the time to just pause, recollect, and talk about the things you notice as someone with experience in the sport, it's so nice seeing people appreciate the effort that goes into making it believable for people who have that experience but also enjoyable for the people who wouldn't know either way. And as someone who doesn't my favorite reactors to this show are the ones that gives that other pov, even though they definitely toe the line at points. Either way though this vid was great thanks for the watch and will be looking forward to more if you like it enough :)

Including reactions, I've probably watched or read Haikyu!! at least 30 times by now. This was certainly one of the best reactions to episode 1! Looking forward to more :D
If the first episode gets you like that, I can't wait to see what this series as a whole does to you. Many athletes and volleyball players already reacted to this and they all love it, and Haikyu!! managed to "save" Japan's highschool volleyball. It was in dire state and I think a year or 2 after the first season aired, the memberships across highschools in Japan quadrupled or something :D
Welcome to the ride and have fun! First 2 or 3 episodes are rather slow, but once it picks up it ONLY gets better (yes, until the very end of the manga it keeps getting better and better, it's ridiculous lmao).

Yes! A new Haikyuu reactor! I've subscribed immediately to follow your journey. I could never finish a sport anime because I kinda don't like watching live-action sports (except football but only when Messi plays) since my dad used to steal our anime-watching schedule to watch his sports and we only got one TV and no smartphones growing up so we learned to despise sports shows out of spite.
Maybe I didn't like watching sports anime because they're often fantastical and since I already don't like watching sports, it made me cringe. Haikyuu is the first (and so far only) sports anime I've watched where it's more grounded in reality. Though I don't like watching, I liked playing and I was a volleyball player too and this anime showed realistic moves where my friends/teammates and I would feel like "we could do that" and we'd try them in court during practice and cheer when we make it work. This anime is special-it's "realistic", it's so wholesome, it's got life lessons, and it's so entertaining.

Great video - I really like the way you feel and relate, keep up the good work! Also, don't worry about pauses, I think its better to pause and give your thoughts than talking in the middle of something happening and missing an interesting bit - people who dislike pauses can always jump ahead but there is no way to do the opposite.
Some details since nobody gave them: The school Shoyo was an equivalent of Middle School (7th-9th year of education). Karasuno is an equivalent of High School (10th-12th year)
You have correctly noticed the Molten ball they practice with - both Mikasa and Molten balls are present since if I remember correctly they got sponsorship from both so they use either.

It's emotional because you can relate on an emotional level with the media you are being presented, I never played team sports but still the themes of pride, sacrifice and overcoming your self imposed limits really hit the "cry button" for me as well. Definitely deserves the like and subscription for the emotional sincerity you've displayed in this reaction. Excited to rewatch the series through your reactions. :)

Yay another athlete watching the goat, Haikyuu. Don't worry about crying and being emotional, that's just something Haikyuu does to us watchers. I mean as a former athlete myself, I know exactly how you feel while watching and reading this anime/manga series. It hit's hard, I used to play many sports growing up, including Volleyball during my schooling days and all the way to my early 20's. Though I unfortunately had to retire early due to multiple injuries I received over the years, mostly from Rugby league & Netball. The 2 sports that I was very competitive in, passionate about and made many state teams during my teen years and even made the national team for Netball mixed side one time for the under 18 side. While I didn't put as much effort into Volleyball as did for other sports, I still really love how Haikyuu can be so relatable in many aspects. It makes you recollect the moments that you have experienced as an athlete. The drive, passion, hard work and determination that makes sports in general so much fun to play. Haikyuu hits it right on the nail and that's why it's the best sports anime out of the many I have watched in the last decade. I hope you enjoy the Haikyuu journey, it's gonna be a good one and very much worth the ride

Oh, man, you are going to LOVE this show! I've been a fan of the series since about 2014 - I played volleyball in elementary/primary school but never got the chance to play again until I was older, and the motivation to do so was entirely because of Haikyuu!!. I've read the manga multiple times and rewatched the anime just as much and a lot of the other commenters are right, the emotions still hit even when you know what happens. Haikyuu!!'s a tearjerker and it's so good at making you emotional as you experience it for the first time. :') The creator/writer is amazing at delivering emotionally charged and relatable experiences/characters. It can feel or seem silly to say that the series or themes are poetic, but I still say it and stand by it because it's true.
Thanks for the reaction, it's always great seeing someone get into HQ for the first time! Look forward to more emotional devestation. :D

Alright, welcome aboard your journey through the best sports anime ever made. As other comments already said, you will have all kinds of feelings watching this. And it will be amazing. Its not just about volleyball... There are a ton of different characters and backstories and character growth... Its awesome.
Fun fact: After the release of Haikyuu's manga in 2012 and even more after the anime series started in 2014, the number of volleyball clubs and players in japanese highschools started to increase significantly (i believe there is a graph somewhere). Just to show how much this show can engage everyone into liking volleyball, even people that never played or just don't care for it

It's okay I'm crying with you.
I watched haikyuu (all episodes, 4 seasons) for like 10th times already and always cried, this show is literally my comfort anime.
ps. fyi the author used to play volleyball in his highschool days so his knowledge is pretty accurate!

Dude, you're going to love this! Tightest writing in this show. A true love-letter to the sport.
