In quilting a term for a similar technique is called “crumb quilting”. You sew very small scraps together on top of a larger piece of fabric like a cut up old sheet to make a larger piece of fabric. It can be tedious, but fun at the same time 😊
It’s so funny you chose this project to work on. I’m making journals out of Readers Digest books and I wanted to use some of the original pages. But I wanted the pages to be oriented where the print was left to right, but when I folded it I didn’t get enough of the page so I just glued 2 pieces of book page together side to side and it made the perfect size for my journals. I even went so far as to glue 3 pieces together and that way I had a page to fold into pockets.

Quilted fabric should work well for this project. I use wood placemats but have several large chunks of quilted fabric. I just finished a French impressionist journal that is 5x13 inches. I did a hidden spine in an old book cover. I put 24 pages in it. Never thought of this fabulous technique. Fun video. Sunny gets cuter and cuter.. I’m a new sewer. Could the pages be machine sewn or is it too thick with 20 pages?

I get some great placemats at thrift stores to make journals. I made my yearly planner out of a beautiful blue quilted placemat! Im glad you did this tutorial to show people qhat great different things that they can use! Have a great weekend!
Really great project. Place mat for a journal cover? Super idea! And a lot of fun watching you do it. Carol from California
I have had this idea for a few years and have been collecting placemats, but have not actually executed it. Thanks for your ideas. ♥️
We are still in lockdown, so no charity shops open yet!! Only garden centres, golf clubs open and hairdressers opened last Friday. Still having to stay within 10 miles of home. I live in Northern Ireland. TFS. 😻xx
OMG Sunny's first bark on video..just sounds like your old dog..❤ Hugs from the Netherlands
