Here is the thing with old books. Most of them haven't been properly preserved and become very dry and brittle. So regardless if you leave the book intact or not, that book is destined to be trash. So repurposing them and use them in a new way is saving that paper from becoming trash.
You Mrs. Pam are so hilarious!!!! When you said, "spread em and forget em." I lost it LOL!!!! I have been learning so much from you since I started making journals 3 yrs ago. You are an inspiration. I was diagnosed with cancer a month ago and still going strong. Having major surgery after Thanksgiving. I just want to say Thank you and I love you.
Pam - Serendipity at its best - i always have a book next to me when i create - whenever i need to glue pieces of papers - images - die cuts etc - i place it on the book to glue them - when the book page gets "gluey" lol - i then place another book page on top and tear it out - i end up with a pile of glued pages ready to be altered into journal cards - tags - belly bands and tuck spots - i also have a 2nd book to use for leftover paints - makes great collage fodder or background pages - love what you created today - thank you and kisses to Sunshine xx
Just “gifted” a shoebox full of duplicate inkpads to a lady who wanted to buy them but daughter had OD’d & had to use $$ for bills. What the heck, I didn’t wanna have to pack them to move anyway! She did me a favor.
Oh no Pam! Now everybody is going to be putting small holes in their papers, and highlighting them! You've started a new trend in paper crafting! 😂😂😂💕💕💕💕
Hi Pam. My husband passed away in 2021. We were only married 10 months. I began looking into scrapbooking so that I could create one for him and got caught up in Junk Journaling. I had never heard of it until early last year (2022). I enjoy watching your videos and many others. Your videos and TREASURE BOOKS are my favorites. I am slowly, but surely working on my husband's scrapbook. However, I have already made three junk journals. I introduced it to my sister. She visited me after Christmas and has created two of her own, using all of the bits and pieces I have created to make junk journals. I also took a look in your Etsy shop and purchased some digital downloads. YOU ARE SO VERY TALENTED, FUNNY, AND FRIENDLY. I adore your pets as well. Tell them all hello for me 🙂
Pam! Thank you for the shout out. I’m so glad you liked my idea of using up book pages. I like the variations you came up with. I got an explosion of new subbies. Thank you!
I see Peter Tarts on that check. I didn’t see the vertical line that would have made it an F. Maybe Peter had a bakery😅 Those correct capital T’s are funky! 😂🤗💕🦋
I took your advise and bought a baggie of rubber stamps from a thrift store. I came home and stamped on a sheet of paper to check them out and found all but one stamped perfect, & even the least one was ok for background because it was large. I got 18 stamps for $6.95. I need no other rubber stamps. Thanks Pam.
Pam, I have to say I don’t get a lot of time to get on TH-cam very often but every night when I get the chance to get on my iPad the first thing I do is look for one of your videos. As a beginning journal maker, I am still wondering what to do with all the pages I cut out of books when I use the covers. You have the best ideas and the way you do your videos are so funny. You always make me laugh and I look forward to finding your videos. Thank you for keeping it fun and teaching us all this good stuff!
Pam, ! find the crafting community very generous and sharing. It’s also very comforting to know that there are so many people out there that are like me. This is very important when you are married to a left brained man who can’t comprehend why I would spend hours creating with paper!
Ohhhh, how I love your channel and your sweet puppy. I always show my husband the sweet puppy. Thanks for your inspiration for creating with reckless abandon. Love ya!
I love how you are giving these books a new life instead of possibly ending up in a landfill or just sitting on a shelf or in a box gathering dust or possibly mold just being ignored😢.
Hello Pam and all crafty souls🥰 . I have loads of those old books, here in Austria it's easy to find them, they're sold at flea markets. They are extremely beautiful and preserved. They can be found at low prices, but there are also those that are very expensive. My daughter always asks me how I don't regret tearing up books that are 100 or more years old... well, I'm sorry, but they're standing and no one reads them anymore, so I'm just giving them a new life and purpose...
Never heard the name Junk Journal until I found your videos......changed my boring life....I do check on other videos...( Yours is my favorite ) you have birds and Sunny........💕
Those are so neat. Using book pages keep them from being burned or shredded or going in the landfill. We can make pretty things with them. Love the belly band. Hi to Papa and the rest of the family ☺️. Have a good rest of your week.🤗🤗🤗
" Didn't read your book, love your cover." 🤣🤣🤣 Pam, I LOVE your humor. I own over 350 books I would never loan, tare, or get rid of. And I own about 50 books I love taring apart. Depends on the book 😉
Pam, thanks for reminding me to use my brads! After all who doesn’t want to look like a blacksmith! LOL! Love to all and especially that sweet Sunny boy! 💖🥰
Greetings from Switzerland! The page you showed at 0:46 looks like a sermon or commentary on being born again through baptism; I paused it and read a bit! Because of the font used, it's likely from the early 1900s or older (I wrote that before you found the date!); I have what's called a "Hauspostil", a pulpit book of sermons (with the little brass feet on the back to protect the book on the pulpit) from Martin Luther, dated around 1860, and it also uses that font. If I had a book like yours, I'd be photocopying!! The text at 24:10 says that the book is from the synod held at the St Paul's church in Elmira, Ontario, 17-23 April 1879; it tells which texts the inaugural sermons used (Eph. 4:3-6, Ps 23 & 2 Cor 6:1-4), and below that is a list of names of the pastors qualified to vote at the synod. Just FYI 😉
😂😂 oh my word, it doesn’t matter what your situation is you are able to work around big stacks of scraps to reach across and sew. I’d have to clean everything away from the machine then forget what I was doing. You are a pleasure to watch and truly create with reckless abandon.
Hey Pam, calling from a small island in the English Channel, Jersey! You will absolutely love the UK, everything old and mystical is on every corner. History in every brick. Our little island is no different, only 9 miles by 5 and we have two castles and many many historic sites from dolmans to Victorian and Georgian homes, if you manage to get over you should definitely visit us, the most southernly island in the UK and tour all the way to Scotland, each place so different and unique yet so similar. Hope your dream comes true very soon and thank you for all your inspiration and joy. Much love to you xx
Oh, Pam I nearly died from laughter at poor Peter's name. The more I tried to compose myself the more the tears of laughter came. Beautiful pages. Loved the gothic writing.
Great Video Pam. I love how upbeat you are. I too, like to be inspired by other people, it is a lot of fun and just keeps the journal world going around! Have a great day!
That’s so funny. My husband asked my mother in law for a few things to put in my daughter’s junk journal for Christmas and she made it VERY clear that this was NOT junk!!!!! Lol 😂 He had to explain. Natasha’s Treasure Books is a wonderful channel to watch. She’s from Australia and loves to recycle everything.
always a thumbs up for using book pages and love your chats. Your accent to me had an Irish hint🙂. the font in the German book is beautiful 😍 Love from Essex, UK
I got a big box of old books at an auction for only $4. Quite a few were falling apart but I think I have tried every one of your videos that use book pages and will try this. My favorite is the Rolodex idea and I store my ephemera in it.
Hey Pam, just wondering if you could do a digi of some of the gothic papers. I've been searching for some for ages and just can't seem to find any. Thanks for all the inspo. 🙃
I ended up getting into junk journals while doing my daughter's scrapbook for her birthday. It was a massive project bc I didn't think of doing it as she was growing I spent months creating her life story from birth to 18. As I was looking for ideas I came across your channel and your personality reminds me of someone in my life who is a constant inspiration and source of love. You inspired me to get started and I couldn't be more thankful. Have a wonderful morning 🌄 you're a joy to listen to/watch!
I often sit for hours just with the pages of books and glue 3 or 4 pages together and rip them out oof the book, do 3 or 4 more and so on. If you glue the full page the glue help to harden it and it becomes really stiff and hard and perfect for cards or base for something. Amazing way to use the book pages.
I accidently found your videos over a year ago and you sent me down the rabbit hole. I have watched thousands of videos, yours and others, looking to find my style and found that although I have my own style, I have made all types of journals with "inspirations" from other artists. I enjoy watching your videos because you always teach me something new and for my morning laughs with coffee (Mr. Farts and Mr. Brad, lol). Thanks for all the crafting good times, Pam!
Great video today. Love your humor 😊. I’m gonna go over and order your fondle package right now. Hope to get some German book pages ( I am German on my Dads side). Thanks again and have a wonderful day❤️❤️❤️😊. Love to Sunny 🥰
I love old books and the feel and smell of the pages! I love the creative ideas you have using books! Let me know when you head to England and I’ll join you!! A bucket list of mine as well!
I haven't made a journal yet, but have been watching your videos and others. I would like to know how you put all these pages into the journal . Do you have a video showing how to add pages to the cover part? Also hear a lot of words I don't know the meaning of, it seems that junk journaling has a vocabulary of words all its own. I need a J J dictionary. Still don't understand what a signature is exactly. Some one gave a definition of it but I still didn't get it. I love your gift of gab all the time you are creating, that's a gift it's self. I also can't imagine coming up with ideas for that many videos a week. You are amazing.
Awesome ideas for book pages!! Mont Philip is the name of a mountain - Mont is short for montagne which is mountain in French - which I am guessing is a sky ride or ski lift to get to the top of the mountain. Can't find anything in google but a Mont Phliip in Alberta near Jasper Park, which I doubt it would be written in French. Thanks for a grea t video!
I always go to our new to used store here and check out the books . It's run by Blue Heron and it employs special needs people. I managed to find a small German dictionary and another dictionary thats falling apart. I absolutely love that belly band. Who would of thunk to make a double one. Thank you so much for sharing all your awesome ideas.
This is always fun!! I especially love this beautiful belly band. Now begins the hunt, not for red October, for German text and maybe some ancient pictures.
As a native of the Cotswold’s it was so strange to hear you mention it! The accent you did was probably closer to somewhere near the Cotswolds than cockney London to be honest 😂 I definitely recommend visiting the area as there are lots of pretty villages if you do make it to the UK in the future.
Good evening Pam! 💕 Using wonderful old pages and playing craft desk jenga (touch one thing, everything goes flying 😆) at the same time. You go girl! 👍 I can’t even get close enough to my sewing machine to touch it at the moment. 😂 Good idea for using all these crusty old pages. 👍 Thanks for the fun! 💕
I’m jumping in this year with my junk journals. Ive entered 2 craft shows this Christmas. I live in Winnipeg and people dont seem to know what JJ are . So well see how things go. I’ll either be a success or the opposite. 😳
Pam, I have learned a lot from you. I have yet to make a junk journal. But I just wanted to offer you a suggestion. Instead of struggling to get through several layers of paper, just go through the top layers of your project with the hole and the brad. It is much easier.

Yes, like me, I am about to start mine too. Excited to adventure with Junk Journals. I Love Books and Papers🤗
I told the lady she needed to watch you for great ideas and great laughs

Thanks for sharing the whole process! My sewing machine is also hiding in clutter. You inspire me to just enjoy the process. Thanks!
Have to say I could give you a run for the money for messy work table. Love that you also loose tools among the project. Keep me crafting. Lol

I just bought a 1926 US Department of Agriculture Yearbook. 700 pages of yellowed charts, tables, lists, pictures and stories. I’m in heaven.
Stunning and stuff we all seem to have on hand. Positive Healing Vibes and prayers for you and your family! Be safe💕🐞 Namaste 🥰
Lovely way to start my day, before I have to go to work! Thanks Pam! 💕

Good Morning, Pam, Danielle Steele, really. Lol
I love this idea! N the belly band looks So Great! Love it with the brads
Ohhh❣️The treasures you could find in England!🤗💕🦋
Found this so much fun! Things to use those pages with. Hi Sunnny Bunny!
I’m jumping in this year with my junk journals. Ive entered 2 craft shows this Christmas. I live in Winnipeg and people dont seem to know what JJ are . So well see how things go. I’ll either be a success or the opposite. 😳
Good morning Pam, thank you for your videos!
Pam, I have learned a lot from you. I have yet to make a junk journal. But I just wanted to offer you a suggestion. Instead of struggling to get through several layers of paper, just go through the top layers of your project with the hole and the brad. It is much easier.
I love the Belly Band so much tfs Pam...Kia Kaha...
Hi Pam hope you're having a good day.
