Only 30% of the NBC affiliates had this show (KPRC in Houston was part of that few). Neil was the 90's version to Michael Larson (Press Your Luck) & Ken Jennings put together. Neil set the all time score of $20,700 + the car. At the opening of the show, Dan Doherty was in the hot tub located in front of the slot machine.
I had a similar performance, although I can't find it online. I won $19,000-plus in the main game and a Ford Escort station wagon in the endgame (getting "opulently" in three seconds) for a total of just shy of $30,000. A couple of weeks later, the producer had me come down to Caesars to test a new endgame. I won the car seven of 10 times. He paid me $50 for my time. -- Joe Hawk, retired sports columnist/sports editor, Las Vegas Review-Journal
A guy named Warren had the second best performace in one maingame I've seen on the show. It was on his third maingame, but he never won the bonus round, which by that point changed to guessing five scrambled words in 30 seconds, one each of 5,6,7,8, and 9 letters, to win the car.
that's my favorite part of the video .. @5:20 the dude on the left looks so deflated and defeated when Neil rings in, it's hilarious. Look at his face before they zoom him out of the shot, it says it all 🙃
I actually taped this episode.....Neil said right at the top that he taught mental anagrams....indeed, the lady and Stephen (that day's defending champion)... had no chance. The lucky slot could cause headaches.
Your uncle was the fuckin' man on this. (And woudn't it have been the play for him to intentionally not solve the bonus round so he could come back four more days and milk a shitload of cash in addition to the car?)
I think I speak for everyone, when I say that this is exactly the kind of show - or, for that matter, this is THE show - that we need to educate the young minds of today, with their vocabulary. After all, I like said, before, even if it isn't the 1990's anymore, we can still make it happen; Family Feud got remade dozens of times, especially since that stupid John O'Hurley became a recent host. We need to get this back on the airwaves NOW - ESPECIALLY on GSN - before we all become illiterate!
and i am assuming that he earned enough to buy everything on the stage. because i know for a fact that although the winner did use their day's earnings to go shopping, i also know that the shopping was done during the break and that the prizes chosen were announced before the start of the bonus game, and that's the only reason i can think of that they wouldn't do it during the break.
and also who was the defending champion on this episode? (assuming that the winner on the previous show did not win the car in the bonus round, because i know that with this format they stayed on until defeated in the main game or until they won the car. if they did win the car they'd retire and they would have three brand new contestants on the next episode.
The defending champion was Steven.....the self declared "eating champion". He, and the lady in the middle actually managed to win a few questions when they could beat Neil on the buzzer. But Neil knew the words as soon as Dan spun the letters. Also won every lucky slot leading Ahmad to say "That noise is KILLING me!"
Goddamn, I remember that show like as if it were yesterday... And just WHY, exactly, don't we have the show still running? Even if it ISN'T the 1990's anymore, we could still make it happen!
how many prizes were on stage for THIS episode? i'm assuming that neil won enough money to buy all of the prizes on stage. (not counting the car of course.)
his performance was awesome, but out of curiosity, what the hell does he do during a birthday party? Sit there and unscramble words for a couple of hours? Or does he at least dress like a clown and do it? :p
and i'm also assuming that because like the rest of you, i do not know the retail values of any of the prizes that were on the stage (and that includes the car.) i was just thinking about it logically.
This show probably would have lasted longer had it been on in the 80s because by 1993, game shows seemed to be fading from television, save for a few successful ones.
I never liked that rule that it had to be the word the producers chose. IMO, if the contestant found another valid 9 letter word within the 9 posted it should have counted. (not sure if it's ever happened) and Ahmad could say something Like "and you're in luck there are 2 possible 9 letter words among these letters).
I went to UNLV during the Spring of 1993 and the tail end of that semester is when they taped a bunch of Caesar's Challenge eps all in one week; the game show nerd that I was, I was able to attend four of them. During one taping I sat in the row directly behind the producers' desk and could clearly see a computer screen. During the bonus round, as the balls came out of the hopper, a guy was keying in the letters into this DOS-looking program, and after a certain number of letters, it started offering suggestions of word matches. On the episode where I was able to see this happen, the first matched word from the hopper was a really obscure and uncommon word, I believe it was "ACERBATES" -- as they entered more letters that rolled out of the hopper, a larger word list started to build, and suddenly they arrowed down to highlight the word CAFETERIA, which is the word that ended up onto the game board. So that's why I always assumed they say "a word that the producers choose", meaning, they didn't let the computer just automatically pick the very first dictionary-certified word possible -- you're right though, I never considered the possibility of multiple 9-letter words to be the reason why they said that disclaimer... Then again, consider the several times people on Wheel of Fortune have tried to solve the puzzle with an answer that fits the letter pattern on the board but is incorrect; you could technically say the phrase on the board is "producer-selected" ;)
You think the producers deliberately put that one letter in its proper place for the "speedword" so that Neil wouldn't win an extra three hundred bucks?
Off the topic for this game show, the person who usually pull down the lever, (in a hot tub), is now a professional poker player and he is profiled in ESPN's "World Series of Poker (WSOP)" (commentator says a "former game show host?") and showed clips of "Ceaser Challenge". IMO this game show is a springboard for him.
They did use a computer, and the producers chose the word. I suspect they used a less or more obscure word based on whether they could afford to give away the car more easily. Neil was one of the few IIRC to win the car on their first day.
I thought he did okay. Oddly enough, CC was the first time I ever came across Ahmad. Before I knew of him doing sideline interviews (especially with Michael Jordan) for the NBA on NBC...

7:19 LOOK AT THE MESS YOU MADE, NEIL!
Need a full episode of this
One of the most impressive one-day performances in the history of game shows! Thanks for the upload!
Do you still have the Car?
He was the best on this show, and I finally get to see the episode, thanks so much! You have any more?

nice
I'm a bit amused that one of the words was "subscribe".
That's how you dominate a game!!!

You can clearly see that the left most contestent on the video was either annoyed or being desperate
that's my favorite part of the video .. @5:20 the dude on the left looks so deflated and defeated when Neil rings in, it's hilarious. Look at his face before they zoom him out of the shot, it says it all 🙃
That dude is fuckin smart
In the grade school years, he must have aced those vocabulary tests and may have read many books during the summer!
I'm surprised!
Just heard him on a clip of the Howard Stern show... THIS GUY IS FRIGGEN TNILARILB(BRILLIANT)! lol
And in that clip, Baba Booey screwed everything up in Neil's appearance.
I actually taped this episode.....Neil said right at the top that he taught mental anagrams....indeed, the lady and Stephen (that day's defending champion)... had no chance. The lucky slot could cause headaches.
LMAO those other contestants probably just wanna go home. This guy has this shit on lock!
What kind of Chevrolet automobile was Neil playing for in the bonus round in this episode?
thx.. this is my uncle..he also does b-day parties in NY if anyone's interested
may I ask what the FIRST word was in the second round? (assuming you know.)
Your uncle was the fuckin' man on this.
(And woudn't it have been the play for him to intentionally not solve the bonus round so he could come back four more days and milk a shitload of cash in addition to the car?)
Wow - that guy was good. Those other two contestants didn't stand a chance.
LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE BALLOONS
I remember this, too. Dan was in a hot tub at the beginning of the show when he should've been onstage. He said he couldn't get up.
He also owned Hollywood Squares (Davidson).
Don't challenge this guy to a game of Scrabble :D
Jesus, what a massacre. Call of the dogs!! LOL
This video needs more views.
Ahmad at 3:51: That noise is killing me!
Especially after hearing it six times, lol!
I remember Tom, or as Ahmad Rashad called him, the Bob Costas lookalike. His winning word was "CAFETERIA".
There was only one car win. An elderly man did it.
Will they ever bring this show to GSN?
YES! We need to learn more vocabulary words! Who says that you can't learn from television??
I think I speak for everyone, when I say that this is exactly the kind of show - or, for that matter, this is THE show - that we need to educate the young minds of today, with their vocabulary.

oops didn't mean to put a period at the end of the first sentence.
You have a cool uncle. :-)
medallion... and that's from the screencap
How did he win the trip to Malaysia? Was that some random prize given away for a single puzzle solve in the middle of the main game?
Prizes were awarded based on how many dollars the champion had at the end of the game.
This is the 2nd most recent network daytime game show to premiere in the United States. LMAD is the most recent.
and i am assuming that he earned enough to buy everything on the stage. because i know for a fact that although the winner did use their day's earnings to go shopping, i also know that the shopping was done during the break and that the prizes chosen were announced before the start of the bonus game, and that's the only reason i can think of that they wouldn't do it during the break.

I don't know, but I'll bet that the producers were REAL glad to see this guy leave after winning the car.
he won all 5 of the prizes on the stage?
how many prizes were on stage for THIS episode? i'm assuming that neil won enough money to buy all of the prizes on stage. (not counting the car of course.)
Neil, you look super handsome in this video!!! :)
They need a host who can read.
this bonus round is better than the second one they had
$100,000
his performance was awesome, but out of curiosity, what the hell does he do during a birthday party? Sit there and unscramble words for a couple of hours? Or does he at least dress like a clown and do it? :p
It was three days after they introduced the second bonus round. In this bonus round, they stayed on until defeated or winning the bonus game.
Heck yeah! Bring them on, of course without popping them :) .
and i'm also assuming that because like the rest of you, i do not know the retail values of any of the prizes that were on the stage (and that includes the car.) i was just thinking about it logically.
@ 0:52 poor Ahamd
Where the HELL was Dan during the first round? He has a job to do for God sakes!
IINM, he was lounging in a spa behind the game board-- one of the prizes featured.
That gladiator you refer to us to was Dan Doherty
As well as an episode of "Family Guy"...I think it was "Let's Go to the Hop".
"Simpsons" parody was classic though!
This show probably would have lasted longer had it been on in the 80s because by 1993, game shows seemed to be fading from television, save for a few successful ones.
really? it looked to me that 1 of them was an x. (although that happened after they said "caesar says stop"
I think Neal has been studying all of his dictionaries and reading alot of books and encyclopedias and newspapers to win alot of money and a new car.
Neil Bines is just montaging.

@@lobstertexasthat was the episode where tom gauer won the car and retired undefeated with over $53,000 was it not?)
is the FULL episode on YT?
it's john , Yochanan from the nut hut. I got a new phone, message me
i hardly ever saw anyone win the second bonus round
He would be best at the category "Mixed Words" on Tic Tac Dough.
a little delayed reaction to be precise.
You think the producers deliberately put that one letter in its proper place for the "speedword" so that Neil wouldn't win an extra three hundred bucks?
In the words of Jim Perry..."HE BROKE THE BANK...EVERYTHING!!"
Off the topic for this game show, the person who usually pull down the lever, (in a hot tub), is now a professional poker player and he is profiled in ESPN's "World Series of Poker (WSOP)" (commentator says a "former game show host?") and showed clips of "Ceaser Challenge". @geniusinmath he's montaging
Did all automobiles provided by Chevorlet during an entire series?
No-- towards the end, Ford was offering cars as well.
that wasn't hard. (or at least not for Neil)
I'm just curious, did this episode have the record for most nine-letter words used in a single show?
They did use a computer, and the producers chose the word. I suspect they used a less or more obscure word based on whether they could afford to give away the car more easily. Neil was one of the few IIRC to win the car on their first day.
I think Ahmad did pretty good on this show
I know who you're talking about. The co-host was Dan Doherty.
But, WHERE is the hot tub? I can't see it.
How do you think Ahamad Rashad did as a game show host?
I thought he did okay.
Oddly enough, CC was the first time I ever came across Ahmad. Before I knew of him doing sideline interviews (especially with Michael Jordan) for the NBA on NBC...
Well? Nobody's answering yet..?
My guess is they used a computer.
Oh, and, by the way, you spelled "Ceasars" wrong. It's "Caesars."
What did Neil end up with 35,000?
How do they know when the 9-letter word was formed?
A computer showed the words to the producer as letters were entered into it.
He probably got banned from the show because he made it boring. LOL he should own that show literally

I thought CAESARS CHALLENGE was a good game show, but the 2nd bonus format ruined the show.
No, it's Caesars, without an "apostrophy." Caesars Palace is spelled without the apostrophe. Learn how to spell.
