      They said that he "Groped her" That wasn't a grope, that had nothing to do with sex, I've had both men and women do that to me a ot in the past, hell a few of my friends still do it, it'd be different if he was actually sexually motivated and attempted to grab her somewhere more intimate, but the fact that she smiled afterwards with a genuine smile tells me that it is the same how i would feel, a surprise shoulder grab from a friend. And don;t forget, a president is allowed to have friends both male and female, and socializing is a big part of politics in all realms.

    French here, and concerning Sarkozy (n°10) there are loads of different theories but the one that is considered most plausible is different. Apparently, right before the press conference, S. had a conversation with Putin, where he kind of schooled him and told him he disagreed and condemned his actions (i.e. death of journalist Politkovskaya, murder of Chechens, treatment of LGBT, etc.). To that, Putin answered that if he continued to talk to him that way, he would crush him, or that if he stopped there, he would make him the 'King of Europe', in a speech that was apparently filled with insults. Following that conversation, Sarkozy was so baffled at how he'd been treated that during the press conference, he was just in a state of total shock.

    This is the best you got? THE most embarrassing diplomatic blunders? Dear Watchmojo. It's a big world out there. May I present to you, my suggestion for the nr1 spot on this list. We (Sweden) got, back in the 80s, a beautiful stallion (think it's called Arabian Fullblood in English) as a diplomatic gift. If memory serves me right, it was a gift from Saudi Arabia. Not sure though. It was a beautiful gesture. With hopes of a long and happy relationship between our 2 countries. Eventually, they called us up on the phone, and asked, "So, how do you like the horse." To which the Swedish ambassador had the slightly uncomfortable task to tell the truth. "We had the horse shot." You see, the horse hadn't gone through the proper quarantines before reaching Sweden. And Sweden did what it always does- follow bureaucracy by the book and by the numbers.
    We KILLED the diplomatic token. Their finest gift. We shot their horse in the head. How is this NOT nr1??

    • @globalklaus
      @globalklaus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corrections. Finally found the info. And it's even worse. 3 horses slaughtered (not 1)by the Swedish army. Gift from Pakistan (not Saudi Arabia). And the year was 1995 (not the 80s). Pardon the errors.

    • @globalklaus
      @globalklaus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, dammit. One last correction. The reason for the slaughter was: Import of horses from Asia to Sweden is totally forbidden, for some reason (so, not the quarantine error. They weren't allowed in, at all).

    Reminiscent means it happened before... not after. It's not possible for a situation to be reminiscent of something that happened after the first incident. That doesn't make any sense.

    Here's another diplomatic blunder: After her arrival at Bangkok airport for a state visit to Thailand in 1996, Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly greeted by then-prime minister Banharn Silpa-archa with the words: "Welcome to Thailand, Queen Elizabeth Taylor." Banharn resigned three weeks later, but not because of that embarrassing incident, but because of his involvement in numerous corruption scandals.

    I think something unspoken here is how much alcohol is involved in diplomacy. In fact, it can be said that we might not have a country without it. The years during the American Revolution where Benjamin Franklin spent an extended period in Paris were basically Ben getting toasted with the luminaries he met there, garnering international support for the revolution.

    When will people understand, when dealing with black people, skin color should be left out of the conversation. A great man once said, people should be judged on the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
