    Um the exhaust port was put in the death star for a reason.

    • @shadowwriter329
      @shadowwriter329 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I know people always complain about it but never think about their arguments; the fact it is needed. you don't block a muffler to a car so something a lot bigger would need one if not several ports. heck they might have more then one but that one was the smallest due to the fact it leads to the reactor sending no doubt a lot of exhaust. plus it was defended with turrets and the highly unlikely chance needed to actually hit the damn thing while flying a space fighter.

    The following nitpick of this video is a rogue one spoiler:
    The Empire didn't purposefully put the exhaust port on the exhaust port on the Death Star, Galan Erso built it into the battle station in secret, without Krennic/Tarkin/Vader/The Emperor even knowing about it

      Drew Fingeret and that's the main reason why this is a fanboy movie. It just exist to explain a plot hole from an good, yet insanely overrated franchise..... and nothing else. The characters were so dull that their deaths means nothing to the next entries, go and watch the red letter media review.

    • @andrewfingeret364
      @andrewfingeret364 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would disagree, honestly. Were some of the characters a little dull, sure, but they were at least performed well and interlaced with excellent action scenes, which in my opinion can be represented in the whole Star Wars saga (with a few exceptions, *cough* Hayden Christensen *cough*) Also the movie doesn't exist to explain the plothole of the exhaust port, it exists to tell the story of the Death Star plans being stolen, therefore changing and reforming the story of A New Hope (especially the opening)

    • @leeman27534
      @leeman27534 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nobodyimportant2470 to be fair, it's not like a) a moon sized spaceship probably needs an exhaust port like a meter wide, it'd either need to be MUCH bigger or probably unnecessary, b) even if they did have one, they didn't need it to be a 100% unrestricted access in a straight line to the outside, from the core, put some turns in there, a couple of grates or some shit, it's far more likely it'd be meant as a weakness to exploit than even a legit necessity or c) people just don't like to think sometimes beloved movies have stupid fucking parts to them.

      It is in fact a dumb decision, they make note of it in the video that Rogue One was devoted to fixing that dumb decision, but it doesn't negate the fact that, when the original movie came out, it was still a dumb decision. Fixing it 40 years later by making it "intentional" within the story of the films...was because people noted how dumb it was over the last 40 years...over and over again.

      Cerino Gold No it hasn't. All Rogue One told us is who designed it and why he designed the port to be there. After all, the designer isn't the builder. Logic would suggest that someone else during the inspection and construction phases, at least, would have tracked that exhaust port and seen a flaw in it. It's not as if the guy from Rogue One put that port in there himself with his own 2 hands.

    • @TheAlan501
      @TheAlan501 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      He basically did, he was in charge of construction. He tampered with the design which is why the flaw is there. If you actually listen to the things they say you can cleaely understand. Even my cousin who isn't a big Star Wars fan understood by just paying attention.

    • @TheAlan501
      @TheAlan501 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ItsJustRyansChannel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cerino Gold lol I did pay attention man. I get it. Now if you pay attention to what I'm trying to say, I'm saying that if you compare the construction process of the real world and the Star Wars universe, you don't give ONE person all the power to design and construct something like that. This is the Empire we are talking about and regardless of them being futuristic Nazi's essentially, they should be smart enough to put things through a process for checks and balances. If they had done that we do in the real world then someone should have spotted the mistake.

  • @matthewbradley3395

    Number 5 is wrong.
    Not quarantining Kane was a decision made by the synthetic Science Officer, Ashe.
    He was onboard the Nostromo because the Company wanted him there to procure the lifeform they knew was on LV426.
    He was programmed to circumvent any efforts by the crew to interfere with that plan.
    Recall the scene where Ripley finds out about Special Order 937...For Science Officer's Eyes Only".
    "Priority One. Insure return of organism for analysis. All other considerations secondary. Crew expendable."
    The crew had nothing to do with breaking quarantine.

    • @UncleJackOnline
      @UncleJackOnline 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yep, not putting Kane in stasis is a major plot point, Ash makes the decision to not quarantine Kane because his mission is to return an alien and the crew is expendable, so he wants to see what happens. At one point Parker asks then shouts "how come you guys don't just freeze him?" Dallas states he leaves the decisions to Ash, Ash even stops Parker from attacking the newly hatched alien

    • @matthewbradley3395
      @matthewbradley3395 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      UncleJackOnline Exactly. Parker has the right idea. The little sucker was at its most vulnerable when it was emerging from Kane.
      It still would have been a handful but that was their only chance to kill it.
      But then Ashe knew that or suspected it.

      You could also argue that at a certain point finding out about the problem wouldn't matter. Let's say he was only able to hide the flaw from people until the initial construction phase and that it was like 10% complete; at that point you've already spent more money and resources on it than you could reasonably justify. Assuming he designed the death star to such minute portions that moving it would lead to every other level being messed up somehow would lead to a HUGE cost for redesigns as more than likely they've gotten some sort of modular building going on to save time. Basically what I'm saying is that in order to save time they were building multiple pieces of the death star simultaneously in space so that they could be connected while in space. If construction goes too far with that flaw in place there's no fiscally responsible way to stop the flaw from existing. NOW let's talk about what happens WHEN they find it. What would YOU do if you knew that 1 of possibly thousands of exhaust ports had this flaw? You don't KNOW that the rebels have the information that this flaw could blow up the death star nor do you think they could get close enough to it in order to even attack it. The best thing to do would be tossing in an extra gun or two near the port and calling it a day. Worst case scenario if you choose that route? A one in a million chance that someone manages to shoot a proton torpedo down the hole, that is protected by guns, and TIE fighters, and THE DEATH STAR.

    The reason the Death Star exhaust port is on the list is because for 39 YEARS it was UNEXPLAINED or treated as an oversight by the Empire in star wars fiction. The guy even says "It is rayshielded so you will need to use Proton torpedoes," which means that the Empire at least thought about protecting it from BLASTER FIRE, but a Proton torpedo can penetrate a rayshield.

The pairing of the goth and gritty tone of the story along with the goth and gritty soundtrack, which is still one of the best soundtrack/movie pairings in cinematic history, has allowed this movie to live on in my mind far longer than it should. It's a pull and a calling to a much younger self and to a much darker part of life.

      pretty much. Obviously they didnt design the deathstar with such a glaring weakness so there had to be an explanation and rogue one gave it.

    • @jaredbennett7677
      @jaredbennett7677 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am the same way, it was a combo of an actually normal, logical feature, not seen as an actual weakness because of the Empire's hubris, and Rogue One actually only explained that the reactor was made weak, which provided the oportunity to destroy it through normal, logical features like an exhaust port.

    • @R3_dacted0
      @R3_dacted0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A "normal and logical" spacecraft wouldn't have "normal and logical" atmospheric machine features. You can have exhaust in the atmosphere because of things like air molecules that allow the exhaust to radiate through them to reach an equilibrium with the rest of the molecules.
      Space, however, doesn't have that luxury. There simply aren't enough particles in space for exhaust to radiate through in a traditional sense. So an "Exhaust port" is asinine.
      It would be like trying to empty out a bottle of water... while you're underwater. It just doesn't work.

  • @russeltaiga
    @russeltaiga 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    1? it hat to have a exhaust. For a Machine that big it was a very eficent thing. No one could have thought about "space magic". a tornado going straight and suddenly down. Thats the problem, the Space Magic!! Not the exhaust.

      And why do they need to get it out of the death star? why doesn't they just cool it down and use it again? Shouldn't be that hard to find a solution for it if they can build lasers and a station as big as a little moon.

    • @casteri
      @casteri 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maya Natsume Propulsion most likely, and it doesn't make sense that the torpedo was sucked in when exhaust pushes air out. Also, the amount of energy used, even if it can be recycled, would require at least some exhaust, especially with a planet destroying weapon on it.

We all know that Ash is an android and has orders to bring back any alien life forms they encounter at all costs... even at the cost of the lives of the crew. Once Captain Dallas is back on the ship, the Warrant Officer (Ripley) is no longer in charge. There is zero flaw in how that sequence went. Ripley was the sane one, in the end, as we all know... she was just overruled and didn't have the power to do anything about it after Dallas was back on the ship.

    Ex Machina - To be fair, there were subtle hints that Ava had actual feelings. She Kills her creator because he was a threat to her, but she doesn't kill Caleb, even though it would be the most logical course of action for an unfeeling machine. As she's leaving, she pauses to look at the bodies of Nathan and Kyoko, then as she gets on the elevator, she glances back in Caleb's direction. She most likely figured that after killing Nathan, Caleb couldn't be trusted to keep her secret.
    The fact that she was a machine wasn't so much to blame as was the fact that she was treated like a thing and her creator was planning to essentially kill her, combined with the fact that she saw him using other androids for his own pleasure. Even a human would be bitter in those circumstances. Maybe things would have turned out better if Ava had been treated as a person rather than an experiment. I mean, if you're striving for true artificial intelligence, you shouldn't be surprised if it reacts the way a human would in the same situation. Now, I'm not saying that every AI should be given full rights, but maybe don't make it obvious that you view them as disposable.

      LazerVader The Death Star II did not have the same flaw. It was merely incomplete, which allowed the Rebels to fly into the unfinished superstructure. The Empire also built an energy shield to protect it while it was under construction.
      Starkiller Base is a superlaser weapon built into an actual planet, not an artificial space station like the Death Star, and had a different defense mechanism. Han, Chewie and Finn had to sneak in and destroy the shield on the planets surface, otherwise the Resistances X-Wings wouldn't have even dented it.

      Matt Jamison Yes, that was a legitimate dumb choice by the Empire. That guy who let the droids escape was an absolute moron.
      The exhaust port was not a mistake, it was a necessity. A vehicle the size of the Death Star simply had to have a heat venting system of some kind. The Empire also did have a defense mechanism installed, the exhaust port was protected with ray shields and turbo lasers.

  • @PlayerZeroStart
    @PlayerZeroStart 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Um, the exhaust port made perfect sense. The Death Star is a giant machine and all machines need to let out it's excess energy at some point. Thus, exhaust ports. I mean, sure, they could have put a bunch of smaller exhaust ports so it'd be too hard to shoot a missile into, but the many holes would also sacrifice the overall integrity of the Death Star. Besides, it's not like it was easy to find and get to the exhaust port. First off, the only reason the Jedi found out about the exhaust port was because they sent in a team to go in and grab the plans for the Death Star. If it weren't for that team, the exhaust port likely would have never been found. Plus, it was heavily guarded by not only machines, but also Storm Troopers and even Darth Vader himself.

    Why is Armageddon so difficult to understand. They explain it in the movie. It would have taken more time then they had to train the astronauts how to drill, plus they had no experience in improv in case something goes wrong (as it did with the experienced drillers). However, they didn't need to teach the drillers how to be astronauts, they just had to teach them how to survive and move in space and on the asteroid. They had experienced pilots to navigate, fly, and do all the necessary things to get the drillers to the asteroid safely so they could do their thing.
    For BTTF, Doc said in #1 he could see the results of the last 25 World Series and maybe place a few bets. He must have changed his mind at some point (to allow the conflict of the movie to occur), therefore he admonished Marty for trying to do the same in #2. If Doc puts the almanac in the moving trash, Biff can't get at it, but they were distracted by the police finding Jennifer. Yes, leaving the Delorean unlocked and unattended was stupid, but they couldn't have predicted Biff would realize they were time travelers, pick up the discarded almanac, steal the Delorean, figure out how to work it, and give the book to his younger self.
    Finally, in Alien, not a dumb decision at all. Ash was specifically programmed to let the specimen on board in order to deliver it to the Company, regardless of whether the crew was killed or not. If Dallas or Ripley had made the decision, then it would've been dumb, but Ash was making a calm and calculated decision to let the creature on the ship.

    • @rocketcon
      @rocketcon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sdmagician76 You made some very good points, and I agree with all of them, except for the Armageddon one. Training to be an astronaut is a lot more difficult and time consuming than learning how to use a drill.

    • @sdmagician76
      @sdmagician76 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get that may be the case, but just looking at the events that take place, because they landed on a more metallic surface than expected, the very experienced and competent drillers first stripped a drill bit, then blew a transmission, then caused an explosion that made the first drill (and operator) to get blasted into space. Luckily, Affleck showed up in the second drill and then almost blew the transmission of that one, but knew by feel that it wouldn't blow. If the drillers (with years and maybe decades of experience) almost failed, imagine how bad the operation would have gone if the astronauts (with a max of two weeks to prepare) would have gone. Remember, the drillers were not training to be astronauts, they were training to survive in space. They were not responsible for anything on the mission except drilling that hole. They had real astronauts on the mission that would take care of flying the ships and all other space aspects of the mission.
      Yes, on first glance (and probably in real life as well) it would have been more practical to teach the astronauts to drill. But after watching the events in the movie, do we really think the astronauts, with just two weeks of preparation with the drills, could have performed anywhere near the quality of the experienced drillers, who only just managed to succeed after much failure?

    A GOOD ONE THAT WAS OVERLOOKED:
    The subway scene in the first Matrix movie. The payphone is ringing to bring them out of the Matrix, and they stand there and chat instead of picking it up. So the hobo gets possessed by an agent and shoots the phone.

    I would say that this list is outdated, but it never was up to date, as it was published after rogue one, and not using any information from the movie, even though it cites it as giving a reason why the port was there. go see the movie and correctly make a list.

    1) It turns out that was Galen Erso's way of subtly sabotaging the Death Star.

  • @GeneralTaco155555a

    Even with the Rogue One retcon, it doesn't even make sense to have an exhaust port. Surely they could use waste thermal energy for something when you have a ship as large as a small moon. Also, even if they couldn't, the Death Star is in space, which means it would have to be constantly shooting particles into space to dispel the heat from the reactor.
    Either way, the exhaust port is a total waste.
