    These are the biggest business blunders to come from the retail side of things. Product recalls can be bad for business, causing bankruptcy, business failure and a serious loss of profits, they are often called for by US government agencies such as the FDA, who order food recalls. Sometimes there are auto recalls from car manufacturers.

    The Tylenol poisoning case doesn't fit the premise of "face palm" recall. the product was tampered with by a criminal and the company acted quickly and responsibly.

      Well, that's also true,, but also warnings were made more prominent and has killed fucktons of people.
      Different than say, warning labels on cigarettes.
      Many warning labels are also BS - some aren't. Something completely safe to just eat 50 bottles of often has the same warnings. Acetaminophen ones are certainly real. :p

    If your child is young enough to not understand that sticking their fingers in an oven will cause painful burns, they shouldn't be playing with an oven. If nothing else, they should at least be supervised. And I know someone is gonna say you can't watch your kids 24/7, but if youre too busy at the moment to watch the kid playing with the oven, there is a very simple solution. Just don't let them play with the oven.

      Because not checking your baby for a pulse every 20 seconds while you are carrying them is bad parenting. Also, what parent thinks about kids using blinds as a noose?
      Only someone that has never had to take responsibility for a pet or child would think stuff like that is a parent's fault. Nobody can monitor a child 24/7, nor should they. If you want your child to feel like an imprisoned lab rat, go ahead and never allow them a nanosecond of privacy. 10-year-old needs to go to the bathroom? Not without mommy there to make sure they don't slip and drown in the toilet bowl.

    • @dummymummy5
      @dummymummy5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      encycl07pedia I have 2 young children and I think of everything with loose wire or string as a possible noose, so should every parent, I wouldn't have had them in my home or I'd adjust them in others houses. This was a horrible thing to say blaming the parents, but it's not fully wrong, if they had been more cautious with things they should have been cautious with in the first place things could have been different, but again, these people have lost their children and they will 100% already be blaming themselves, they don't need ransoms on TH-cam reminding them. The sling is a bit of a touchy one for me because I think it's irresponsible to use a sling where the baby is scrunched and not visible. That could have been avoided with basic common sense, I don't condone that but there are legal slings where views are constricted so that's a personal peeve to me.

    • @encycl07pedia-
      @encycl07pedia- 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dummy Mummy The first sentence of my previous comment was sarcasm. I'm not blaming the parents. Did you honestly think I believed parents should check their kids every 20 seconds for a pulse?
      Most people don't think of blinds as strings. They think of blinds as blinds that block out sunlight.
      Congratulations on being afraid of everything. I'm sure your bubble kids will have a fun time growing up in an incubator and having no privacy. (

    The recall for Tylenol cannot be overstated. When it happened Chicago PD said that it was local and a national recall was not needed. Johnson & Johnson said, "No, we have a commitment to our customers and the community, everything goes." Their shareholders freaked at the cost. J&J replied, "Eat shit." Not only did their actions and safety measures quickly become a national standard customers saw what the company were doing and would buy Tylenol en mass when it was back on shelves.

      +Eddek, it seems like parents have no concept of personal responsibility anymore. If their kid does something, like burn themselves, they just have to blame somebody. It can't possibly be their "special little snowflakes" fault. It has gotten so ridiculous it is unbelievable.
      What I think they don't understand is that they are harming their kids a lot more than they are helping them. Like you mentioned, we as kids, would learn by doing these things, and making these mistakes. If the kid thinks that every mistake, or trial and error action that fails, is someone else's fault, they are going to grow up very screwed up.

      1. Take the oven away and wait until she's older and more responsible
      2. Watch the child while she's using the oven
      The father obviously scolded her and that it. If he had done of those things the kid could've avoided shoving her fingers in the oven

    My mother brought both the oven and vacuum cleaner. I remember 'helping' my mother cleaning the rug. As for the oven my mother was always in the kitchen when I used it. I loved the mini coconut cakes I'd made.

    I have to point out that the Easy Bake Ovens were put on the market before the 80s but didn't have these issues until after the 90s. All I can say is that when my friends and I were kids, no one had to tell us things like, you shouldn't set yourself on fire. That used to fall under the category of "common sense". It has become "uncommon sense". Now setting yourself on fire (or the other various Darwinian pass times) falls under the ridiculous category of "Yolo".

      Evil and I love it :) I owned an Easy Bake when I was seven, but I don't think it came with the bulb at the time. My mom is the "I'll get it later" kind, AKA, she's going to forget unless you hound her to death about something. I never got the bulb so in turn, I just ate the powder for the food. However, I'd like to think that even if I had, I wouldn't have burned myself considering I was already able to cook simple things (and without supervision) at that age.

    I remember seeing several Pintos in moderate speed rear-end collisions. In almost every case, the fuel tank ruptured, but none I saw resulted in fire. I also saw a Mercury Montego rear-ended and the fuel filler pipe pulled out of the tank, resulting in a fuel spill. Notice no mention of the '73-'84 Chevy/GMC pick-ups with the "side-saddle" tanks outside the frame rails, which were highly vulnerable in broadside collisions. Not sure how many injuries resulted, but the videos were graphic. And don't forget all those Firestone 500 radial tires in the seventies. I believe the first auto recall was by Studebaker in the nineteen-teens, not safety-related, but the new three-speed transmissions were not as durable as the two-speed units they replaced. As soon as Studebaker engineers became aware of the problem, the company recalled every three-speed car voluntarily, and made things right for the customers.

    It was the blocky pink, black and white one they showed in the severely 90s commercial.
    I never got burned, but I DO think I had a faulty one. It never cooked thoroughly enough and I would get frustrated and just cook in the kitchen with the actual oven.
    And, once I got good.working with the kitchen oven, my Easy Bake just kinda became obsolete. I ended up giving the bulb from it to my Dad who needed that wattage in his workshop.

    The bad thing about the Ford Pintos exploding is that Ford knew they had a problem but refused to recall all the Pintos to fix them, because they knew it was cheaper to settle lawsuits than it was to recall all the cars. Eventually they were forced to recall them and install plastic liners in the fuel tanks which wouldn't rupture in a crash.

      Because a Mini-oven, designed to act as a 'miniature' oven is expected to be entirely safe? I think you're missing the point, while I don't deny that certainly a parent is expected to put degree of trust product has been created safe for a child to use, at the end of the day the Easy Bake case boils down to parental negligence. Again this is a miniature oven designed to function as an oven, is it not appropriate for a parent while baking in the kitchen with their child to warn them not touch the heating element of an oven, do the not still common sense to supervise them to make sure they are not hurt or burnt around the oven? Under the right advice, precautions and supervision a mini-oven can be just as safe as for a child to use as a regular kitchen oven and/or microwave oven.

    • @ZBWorth
      @ZBWorth 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      AlyceJay The mini-oven yeah sure parents should keep an eye on the kids. But the comments are saying it about all the products. A faulty sling, crib, blinds, these are things a parent will never expect to harm their child, and it really gets on my nerves that people are making horrible judgements about the parents based on those incidents.

    • @BeeWhistler
      @BeeWhistler 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dunno about the sling, though. Those always made me nervous. I would repeatedly make sure the baby's face wasn't covered. Maybe people think that's a lot of anxiety for nothing but when it comes to that I'd rather have some anxiety than the alternative.

    I had an easy bake oven. I can't remember if it was me or one of my younger sisters, but a cake got pushed too hard and spilled everywhere. It smoked first and that thing was gone before it could catch fire.

    The IKEA dresser thing at the end reminded me of how lucky my little sister is. When she was about 2 or 3, she was trying to get Goodnight Moon out of the one drawer and it tipped over but the top of it landed on her toddler bed and she was somehow caught in the little gap between the bed and the dresser. The one drawer hit her I think and she was really scared, but she's still lucky that the dresser didn't fall on her in whole.

    I was involved in the Tylenol recall. I was a truck driver who was hired to take a trailer full of recalled Tylenol products to a reclamation center. I had signed for a trailer load (sealed and locked) "Said to contain *approximately*
    xxxxx number of various Tylenol products" When I got to the reclamation center , they made me wait ALL day (at a cost of hundreds of dollars) while they had 50 workers count each bottle and box of product. And of course their count did not agree with the *approximate* number on the bill of lading. Finally, the second shift manager arrived and stopped all the nonsense.

    used to deal with product safety. Test purchase electrical device (fan, or something like that) - sent to a testing lab, shortest ever report:- "when plugged in and switched on the device caught fire. No further testing was possible"

    My parents bought a ford with those tires from a dealer. Luckily we checked the tires. I still hated driving that thing cause every time I turned a corner I felt like the car was going to roll. I could feel the center point in the car and knew it was to low. I was so happy when we got a Fusion.

    I had an Easy Bake oven with metal pans. My mom wouldn't let me use it unless she was there and the age limit started at 8 and older. My aunt had a pinto. I remember the Tylenol recall. And we got a 700.00 set of tires on our Explore after one blew. We had to bring a floor jack to put on the spare. When it blew it was bad. But we were lucky the SUV didn't roll.

    Is it bad that I've used an easy bake oven and didn't get my finger caught, but managed to get it caught in the real oven door? -It wasn't on or hot, I had to check if there was a pan in it and my finger got caught in the door as I closed it-

    I've seen several news articles addressing the Explorer/Firestone controversy, but I've never heard once them bring up the fact that Firestone isn't new to bad tires, apparently nobody seems to remember the removal from the market Firestone's 500 series Tires back in the day due to unexpected shredding.
