    The first scene in Inglorious Basterds is easily Tarantino’s best scene he’s ever written imo
    I mean how can a 15 minute scene feel like both 5 and 30 minutes at the same time!? Its just amazing.

      That scene and the pub scene are next level

    • @ellispiper6313
      @ellispiper6313 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@acowwithlegs I'd even argue that bar scene is better than the opening scene. Both create this mounting tension, but the bar scene holds it longer, has prettier looking characters (Micheal fassbender Diane Kruger), insane acting (August Diehl), amazing dialogue ("Mind if I go out speaking the kings?" - "There's a special rung in hell for those waste good scotch") and a masterful shootout climax that ends in seconds. Think I watched that scene over 50 times
      First scene is amazing no doubt, but we already know the french farmer is doomed. The bar scene is more of a fair fight against britian's top spies and a sherlock holmes esque German SS officer - dude even takes out a pipe, stops the music and says "allow me to inquire".

      @@ellispiper6313 There are a number of scenes in his body of work that have what I call "Tarantino moments", that if you didn't know they were from a film of his, you would know. One such is Butch going back in to save Marsellus, but the best one is the "Mind if I go out speaking the kings". It reminds me of a car accident I was in where I realized there was a car heading straight at me at 50 mph about 20 feet in front of me - a split second and an eternity at the same time. In a strange way it also reminds me of the tension build up in Phish's "Punch you n the eye" before it explodes into a guitar solo. Maybe my favorite scene in any film. I wish I could go out that way.

      It's a great film, but I agree, nothing really stands out as memorable, and I've watched it twice. Inglorious Bastards is probably my favorite just due to my love of its dark comedy war-film aspect. And that bar scene is one of the greatest scenes ever written, along with the opening.

    The point of Once upon a Time is, in my opinion, taking the darkest day in Hollywood and turning it into the fairy tale that Hollywood creates. Giving his favorite period a fairytale ending instead of the traumatic ending we got in our reality. That's the point I got from it. I would personally put it top 3 but I'd also have inglorious bastards a little higher. Great video!

    • @TomCL-vb6xc
      @TomCL-vb6xc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      TYGN I just found it very boring to be honest. I get what you mean but to me, 95% of the film has nothing to do with turning a dark day into a fairy tale ending. It’s just a lot of walking around and talking and none of it is very interesting or entertaining. The ending is pretty fantastic because of how bizarre it is compared to the rest of the film - but in the sense that it is so bad it is good. For me it’s one of Tarentino’s worst films but I haven’t seen Hateful Eight.

    • @alfredo4053
      @alfredo4053 5 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Great point. I would add that the awesome thing is that Cliff and Rick in the ending do what they had been doing during their now-past-glory days but in real life, with Cliff doing the dirty job and still not being noticed bacause he gets carried away by the ambulance, and Rick doing the most spectacular thing with the flame thrower but without even knowing what was going on, and yet that's how he eventually gets accepted by the new hollywood symbol that was polanski's house.

      @StormX6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hateful 8 isn’t a bad film at all, but compared to the other films, it feels very weak in the story. There’s great dialogue and the performances are solid, but there isn’t much that happens in the story other than the main characters come to a cabin that have been taken over by a gang to free the Daisy and they all kill each other. It feels a bit too much like Reservoir Dogs, but Reservoir Dogs had a lot more tension and unique direction. Though I still think Hateful 8 is better than Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

      I do thoroughly enjoy rewatching both films. As far as i’m concerned the two are absolute masterpieces with 1 being my preferred. I believe they do what Tarantino wanted them to do without fault. The films aren’t genre-bending and don’t have a particularly mind blowing story, but everything it attempts to do as a action revenge flick is perfect. The dialogue, the action scenes, the characters, all amazing. The film is what it sets about to be, a good revenge story and gives you no more and no less and it does it perfectly.
