Fun fact: In high school I asked my music teacher if we could play that song in class because it's pretty simplistic and easy to learn and he said he would look into it. I imagine he listened to it and made it up to the "When new creatures rape your face" line and vetoed the plan to play it in class lol.

Famous Monsters honestly makes me sad, as it was the last Misfits album that featured Michale Graves. With how much the quality picked up from American Psycho, it makes me wish we could have seen this lineup a bit longer and the potential masterpieces they could have made.

Danzig or not, Famous Monsters is my favorite Misfits Album, i just love the riffs, the vocal melodies and musicality overall, i think musically is the best album.
Scream it's an Amazing song, and proof that you don't need a ton of words for a song to be great lyrically, just to arrange it correctly.
Although i gotta admit I'm more of a Metal listener than hardcore Punk.

12 Hits From Hell deserves an honorable mention.. Had it been officially released, I'd rank it #2 right behind Static Age.. Opens with Halloween, you get the 3 Hits singles and Where Eagles Dare, has IMO better versions of Vampira, NOTLD, and Violent World (with that extra guitar squeal in the chorus), and has a much better sound quality than Walk Among Us... Plus you get both Doyle and Bobby Steele on the tracks.

I got into the og era of the band a few years prior to the Graves era, so obviously, that is the era I prefer, though being a new and rabid fan of the band I had no qualms with seeing the 95' era live with Graves and Zoli many times and supporting the band and their new material.. Obviously I was a child when the band broke up in 83' so the only option to see and hear these songs live was during the 90's and say what you will about the band, they always put on a killer show and were a ton of fun live.. Once the 95' era dissolved, I ceased following/supporting the band.

The Misfits were me and all of my friends' favorite band back in the mid 90's, before they got back together. We went to see them in 1996 when they first reformed, and it was GREAT, Michael Graves looked EXACTLY like a young Danzig, and they played nothing but the classics, there were no new songs yet cluttering up the set list. I remember we all picked up American Psycho back in 1997 when it first came out, expecting this awesome album(this is before all the old punk bands started getting back together and putting out horrible albums, so we didn't knw any better), and the first song, which is the title track, came on, and we were actually pretty impressed. Unfortunately, then we heard the rest of the album. Of course, it goes without saying that we all found different favorite old school punk bands shortly after, and ditched our Misfits shirts, especially when all the Hot Topic stores started opening up in malls shortly thereafter. It's hard to believe now there was actually a time when it was cool to walk around with a crimson ghost shirt. It sucks that Jerry Only had to take that away from us by dragging the name through the mud and turning the band into a joke.

Earth A.D. is also the most metal album, w riffs that could easily be black metal riffs (Demonomania, Earth A.D.). Some of the songs you could just replace the original drums w blast beats and it would be black or death easily.

I know Michael Graves is someone a lot of people in the punk community want to distance themselves from (understandably so), but I love his work with the Misfits. So much so, I kind of wish things were different so he could've been on the reunion tour with Danzig, Jerry and co. Maybe they could've recorded a new album where it's half Danzig songs and half Graves songs. Oh well. Woulda coulda shoulda.

I'd personally switch Famous Monsters and Earth AD. And then switch Walk Among Us with Static Age. Famous Monsters is a fantastic album with great riffs, actually deep lyrics, and amazing vocal performances by Graves. It plays like a greatest hits album. Soaring above Earth AD. And I believe Walk Among Us is the quintessential Misfits album. Song after song of iconic misfits. As many great songs as Static Age has, Walk Among Us takes the cake for me. Just my opinion.

    3. Walk Among Us (I know that this is the most legendary, but that's in part b/c this was the only 'Fits LP until 1982, whereas I first heard the band on Collection I... I prefer some of those versions to some of these)

Michael Graves is super underrated. Famous Monsters and American Psycho are two of my favorite Misfits albums. I really dont like Earth A.D. as it's not melodic enough for me as I'm more into Skacore than "Hardcore" punk anyway. Graves era misfits made some banger tracks like - The Shining, Scream, Don't Open Till Doomsday, Resurrection and Them. Just completely underappreciated. Don't get me wrong Danzig was great and made some amazing songs as well. Hell, Horror Business is probably my favorite Misfits song of all time, but i still really enjoy Graves.

I would flip American psycho and famous monsters, and as far as the top three I think they're interchangeable, depending on the mood I'm in...but you described them perfectly! But I gotta admit, I absolutely love Earth AD/wolfs blood! It rips so fukin hard! Ive seen the misfits twice, once in 98 with graves, they were on tour with earth crisis cause they had both just signed with roadrunner, so I guess the label thought putting the new kings of hardcore and the OGs out in the road together would be a good idea(which it was!) And then I saw them again 2018 w/ Danzig in Newark NJ where it all started. I gotta say, it was great to see the "original" Misfits on their home turf! They ripped so fukin hard, Jerry was a monster! I really had to give him his props! All in all, one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, sans Jerry on lead vocals. I don't even acknowledge that, you're a better man than me! I gotta say, though...had they called themselves something else and didn't try and emulate 80s misfits, I would have been interested. As I absolutely love black flag and the misfits, also it would have opened them up to more subject material and experimenting! 💀

I’ll be honest, as a newer Misfits fan I don’t get the hate on the Graves era. I actually thought they were pretty exceptional on a couple songs off of famous monsters, not to mention the band having an iconic sound outside of just Danzig’s voice. I get the all the problems they had with eachother and the controversy and stuff, but if we’re just talking music it’s pretty good shit.

I remember getting into Misfits during my 70s-80s punk phase as a college freshman, especially because I knew how much they influenced My Chemical Romance, my favorite band ever, (they loved the band so much Astro Zombies was one of 4 cover songs the band ever did in their 10 years), and I cant help but feel the Misfits Helena had at least some influence on MCR's song of the same name, even if they are very different in sound and writing and only share the name. I remember listening to American Psycho and thinking the album and band were good but not fantastic or great. It wasnt until I found out about the different lineups and that Glenn Danzig (who I knew from being a Danzig fan) was the original vocalist that I fell in love with the band and it ironically gave me more appreciation for the Michael Graves era, which I think is underrated, but still not as great as the 80s Misfits. They're still one of my favorite bands and probably my favorite punk band. Good video, but I disagree, American Psycho and Speak of the Devil are some of the stronger tracks off that album
