- WIKI MISFITS 1995 Only and Doyle immediately set about reforming the Misfits, bringing in drummer David Calabrese, aka "Dr. Chud", who had worked with them in Kryst the Conqueror. Glenn Danzig rejected their offer to return as the band's lead singer. Dave Vanian of The Damned was also approached but declined. The band, now reformed with one original founding member, Jerry Only, held open auditions for a new vocalist. Nineteen-year-old singer Michael Emanuel had recently recorded a demo tape in hopes of starting a music career, and the owner of the recording studio suggested that he audition for the Misfits. Being unfamiliar with the band, Emanuel listened to Collection I on a walkman to learn the lyrics and melodies while working his job as a greenskeeper. He impressed the band with his audition and was accepted as the new lead singer under the pseudonym Michale Graves, while Doyle adopted the new stage name "Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein". The new lineup made an appearance in the 1995 film Animal Room.

I prefer the Danzig era but I won’t deny that it was the Graves era that really put the Misfits on the map and gave them a true name for themselves even though they had recognition through the Metallica covers and people recognizing Danzig when he did Samhain and went solo as the Misfits guy, it was was the Michale Graves fronted Misfits that really pushed them to where they are today. Respect where it is due and this is coming from a Danzig fan

Michale is the nicest guy ever!!! Met him in Louisville at his American Monster tour performing songs from both albums!! Got to talk to him for a little bit before he went to eat and I was shaking so hard and having a massive panic attack inside!!

one thing jerry might be hard to work with from what alot of members said even doyle his own brother BUT he really does care about his fans.
Steve Whitney, I saw Misfits at a small club 20 years ago, and before the show my friend and I walked around to the back of the venue, and there was the Misfits tour bus parked on the street with Jerry in the drivers seat talking on a cell phone. We waited a few minutes, just standing there, then he came out and said “what do you guys want?” I said “we just want a picture”, and he said “ok, no problem”, and posed for a pic with us, out of makeup/costume. Seemed like a cool dude!

Saw them at “Hardcore Alive And Well” headlining at Asbury Park NJ boardwalk convention center back in summer of 1997. Very approachable and seemed nice.
many people have a favorite sports team they support life long win or lose. In the music world The Misfits are my lifelong team I support win or lose no matter what era.
A lot of people give Jerry shit, but if you ask me he kept the misfits alive from 1983 to 2016 instead of letting it die. Guaranteed
they would have faded into obscurity without him carrying the torch all those years and keeping it going.

@@levellz Jerry kept The Misfits going which was instrumental in keeping interest alive.They would be having their reunion shows at county fairs, certainly not arenas that sell out in less than a few days.
I remember many years back in NY maybe 96-97 I saw The Misfits open for Megadeth when Cryptic Writings was released and maybe American Psycho was recently released.
Recently last year Megadeth had opened for The Misfits at a huge show during the summer in Florida ( which sadly I couldn’t attend). If that doesn’t affirm that it payed off in the end I don’t know what does. Its a great time to be a Fiend though.
It's too bad we (the fans) couldn't hear all of the songs they wrote for American Psycho.

It’s weird to hear that Jerry’s tough to work with. Here, it seems like he’s got such a good grasp of how to keep a band functional
i think he actually grew up. Danzig while great and talented , i've heard is a nightmare diva. Doyle just doesnt GAF, as long as its good. and Jerry has standards now, so it may seem like he's hard to work with, but its just some professional expectation. i remember when i had a band, the more experience i got in the industry , i was able to expect and ask for more professional musicians, and I was strict with them. all the drugged out lazy losers i could screen and get rid of right away
I think Jerry took out of it, as a lesson. and Glenn looked back at the misfits in that time as a huge mistake/untalented.
As much as I like Danzig I wanna say the problem was probably him lol

These snippets of a gig was Halloween nite (star trek costumes) at the Palace in Hollywood. Glen was playing down the street at the whiskey under "blackaciddevil" tickets were 6.66$

It's history but I only found them recently. Michale is a really great front man and they are/were a great band - all characters. No surprise Michale was listening to Motorhead.

Although Michael Graves is a great singer, plus all around great dude, The Misfits Danzig era compared to this entity is like night and day. Used to be violent.......and Graves era is like Kids dressing up for Halloween. Too cheesy and cartoonish......but Michael Graves era puts Jerry Only era to shame. Jerry Only era is cringeworthy singing about some ghost boat on that last album. Lame. Or that 50's cover album singing some Barbershop Do-Wop with some polka backing drumbeats singing Great Balls of Fire, This Magic Moment, Runnaway......romantic B*llshit- LAME. Michael Graves is an awesome fella, just had to do what Jerry Only told him to do......just to get thrown away like trash to Jerry Only then turning the band into over the top cheese. Would've been so much better if they went under a different name. Jerry Only has milked and turned a Legendary band into some Christmas Cartoon B*llshit. This band has nothing to do with the Danzig era minus milking as much money as possible with The Chrimson Ghost on everything. Used to be Legendary- Violent- Dangerous to turning into this "Family Band" with Only dissing all the Danzig era songs.....when they're the songs that made The Misfits so notorious. Minus The Legendary Reunion Shows With Danzig. Now That's THE SH*T! Besides the Reunion Shows with Danzig, The Misfits name should've been retired, like Danzig, owner, creator, and songwriter did by ending it and forming Samhain. This era of Tge Misfits as well as anything after this should've been Kryst The Conqueror to differentiate Legendary Misfits from Cheese Fest Family Party.
I seen Jerry only when I was younger about 16 in Tucson and got to meet Jerry Only and Doyle God that was great. some guy had a bloody nose draining blood and I fell down and they actually picked me up I guess they felt sorry for me I don't know . but I love the mosh pit that was that was awesome is Big Indian dude in the marsh pit was yelling follow me or die I thought that was funny. They actually had a bar 🍸.
Michale Graves was/is the best and actually Tobias Forge is a huge fan of the Misfits so he didn't copy anything if anything he was trying to bring that back with Ghost

Much has changed in the almost 25 years since this video. No way would they have even been at MSG in 1997, let alone sold it out. and they wouldn't have the buzz they have now if it wasn't for the graves era bringing in a ton of new fans that otherwise may never have heard of the Misfits. Until Jerry won the lawsuit and re-released the old stuff on CD/casette if you weren't into them at the time of the Danzig era and bought the albums then you were kind of SOL. It wasn't easy getting ahold of their music before then.
