I remember watching this on Christmas with my mum and complained when he didn’t say the L finally he finished the joke and we both broke out in hysterics
The secret about puns is that you have to dress them up real nice. Like, completely overdo the fanfare around them, heightening expectations. Putting puns in songs it the ultimate overkill.
A year later I'm watching King of the Hill S04E10 and Peggy made basically the same joke at about 3:15 in. So naturally I had to listen to the song again.

This joke to be fair has been doing the rounds of British playgrounds since AT LEAST the 1970s. None the worse for that. (Never heard of whatever Animaniacs is.)
Given that "Noel" sounds exactly like "No L", and Alex Horne loves puns in general, how are you so certain that he didn't come up with that on his own? Two different people discovered calculus independently and you think two people can't have the same idea for a song?
@@grf15 I wouldn't be surprised if Horne had never heard the _Animaniacs_ version, or even if he'd never heard of _Animaniacs_ at all. He's not American and he was already 15 years old when _Animaniacs_ debuted in the US. I'm British and about the same age -- we grew up on the classic Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and _Animaniacs_ just isn't something that's in my cultural vocabulary.
Since The Animaniacs is an American TV show, I highly doubt it that this was their own idea. I haven't seen anything original in US TV shows since 1982.

The delivery of the punchline, brilliant! Laugh every time!
I love how shamelessly they use terrible puns to make comedy. It's so cheap, but still so gosh darn funny!
gosh darnit, it sure is. love alex horne.
You'd love Tim Vine then

well done for ruining the punchline in the title
To be fair I think that's exactly how Alex would have it
@@casperes0912 yes on the podcast he is always ruining the punchlines to everyone else's songs 😆

Isnt it from animaniacs though?
frstone I just looked it up, yeah, good memory
the joke precedes animaniacs though
It’s in completely different context though?
A variation, yes
Yes, in the history of the world, no one has ever done a cover song or a different version. Grow up.
Its a funny clip but what does it mean. Whats the point of missing out the L?
It sounds like Noel. Like Christmas.

I do like the horn section but they stole that off of the animanics.
