Taking the sleeper train from Almaty to Tashkent (with 300 epilepsy pills!)

I'm back on the road again, or should I say railway tracks! After spending one month in Almaty, Kazakhstan, I've decided to take the 16 hour train to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The only problem is, I'm carrying over 300 tablets for my Epilepsy!
I shared a room with 3 others and had some of the most breath taking views from my sleeper cabin. The train also had a restaurant carriage in case you got peckish over the course of the journey.

Train border guards are strict but i've always found them accommodating if you explain your situation :)

I have to take a special heart medication. So that´s also a similar concern to me. Crossing the border in these former Soviet countries can be nerve racking for sure. Their trains are rickety but still better and more reliable than Amtrak in the US. I already planned a trip to South Korea and Japan, but I hope maybe in 2024 I can do a nice Central Asia visit to "the Stans" I need the Russian practice.

From what I remember I used the Uzbek Rail app but it's worth looking at Rome2Rio, they'll point you in the right direction 😊

Sir what about food option in train and how you have booked ...if one traveling from Almaty holding Uzbekistan visa can he cross through land?

I didn't eat anything. I actually forgot to buy food. A nice woman in my carriage gave me some bread 😁 I didn't need a visa for either Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan so this was not a problem for me. I just had my passport stamped at the boarder

Hey. I'm planning to do the same trip, Also with 100's of epilepsy meds. What is the illegal substance? Lamotrigine? Levetiracetam? Sodium valproate?

I can't remember how much but I think it was around £30. And through Uzbek rail 😊

you should have gotten prescribtion with your doctors contacts and get them translated ....

I didn't get them translated but I did have them. But the medication wasn't allowed anyway haha
