Just a smol tip from my (somewhat limited tbf) experience is that you don't want to slide 90° towards the bottom of the hill. A lot of people try to swing their board out to fully perpendicular to the bottom of the hill when doing speed checks, and that will lock your wheels up and send you over toe side and is scary as hell. Make sure you keep some kind of angle, so your wheels are still rolling forward as you're sliding. c: Great vid, btw. Nice and simple, like it should be.
This is great insight, thanks for sharing Tess. You're totally right... you could see this with Mikey's first attempt. He went too far which made it impossible to straighten out

Also sliding at an angle just below 90 degrees will prevent flatspots, due to the wheels still being able to spin.
wiht traditonal hard wheels you very much can do that, 90 degrees and more. Makes sense why he tried since they said hes used to hard wheels.

Dude honestly, this has been *THE ONE VIDEO* I've been looking for. This is so helpful, as I've got a cruiser pin tail with 78a wheels, and I can get the tiniest slide, but wanted something with a bit more give. The other videos, as you pointed out, didn't quite give me the advice I was looking for

My dinghy is supposed to arrive on Friday. I have experience on a traditional skateboard but not anything with thicker wheels that has potential for higher speeds. So I'm glad I came across this, will definitely be practicing this right away

I started skating almost two months ago. The streets in New York can be rough so for cruising around the neighborhood i got me some 80a bone wheels. The thing is the area where i live is rather "hilly" so i find myseld picking up speed fast!! Scary AF. This video came in handy. Will try some powerslides down my friendly neighborhood hill, Thanks!!

I was trying for weeks to get a slide down, but I just couldn't make it happen until I tried a board with a shorter wheelbase and harder wheels. It really helped to get the motions down!

i had different duro wheels as such 78a, 86a, 99a and i couldnt really slide on 78a and a little bit on 86a.

I messed up a powerslide last year and broke my hand and clavicle boming a hill. I didn't have a helmet. Luckily, the US Marine Corps taught me how to brakefall. I basically did a combat roll and saved my head. Always wear a helmet, no matter your skill level.

Exactly. I feel like it was easier for me to learn since I have a surfing background and am used to engaging all of my body weight while carving. Those that come strictly from skateboarding background have a tougher time learning these
@@concrete-waves i can feel that. i have helped many popsicle-skaters onto longboards and many are juuuust sooo stiiiiiff in the upper body. they sweep their center of balance away from right under their asses lol, like, come on you are at about 20km/h, what do you think eould happen if you just throw your leg out lol. But no shade, everyone learns differently and has different preconceptions about the idea of something like a powerslide and how to pull it together.
Great video! I am heavily dependent on that technique as a commuter that doesnt want to buy new shoes every week.
Just a Tip to whomever might read this: DRIVERS DONT KNOW YOU NEED SPACE TO SLOW DOWN. they might try to stupidly overtake even in corners, so LOOK BACK BEFORE YOU KICK OUT.

Great video, but you should have explained a little bit more in detail. How to carve into the slide correctly ? How to use your shoulders, hips and legs ? Where to apply pressure and how to shift your weight on your feet ? Also narrower wheels help, because they are not that grippy.
You should recommend Powell Peralta Snakes as sliding wheels. They have a special "Soft Slide Formula" that make it extremely easy to slide, while staying very soft. They are also super durable for sliding, which tends to wear down the wheel.
Thaks for the video and the honesty. Slinding on LY Dingy aint easy.
I recommend kinda bouncing into the carve by pressing down then bouncing into the carve, this works on a bendy longboard best. It basically just slides the back out faster from the momentum pressing down in the carve

I started skateboarding back in the late 80s. Only wheels at the time were soft big wheels. Can't remember the size. I learned to power slide the length of a car with 82a OJ wheels. I remember 82a duro was for street 91a or so was considered hard, and mostly for vert.

you should try some powell peralta snakes if you can find em. they're fast, slide very well, last for a very long time, and many people reccomend them for starting out and freeride

I'm really not trying to be mean here, but weight over front, but push out the back foot.. when you have weight over the rear, the hookup of the slide is more abrupt and intense.. just friendly experience advice, skate safe friends!

Yo shred shack been getting into shredding again recently and running a landyachtz drop carve (flexible board) with otang stimulus. I can power slide and 180 but to hold out a nice standy I’m having trouble with going over the top of the board. Not sure if it’s the wheels, flexible board, drop mount or me not leaning far back enough but the stimulus are super grippy and slow the board fast down once you get sliding. Thoughts? Should I invest in some new wheels? Keep uploading dude 🤙

Duuudee I just went to try some hills near my house today and was looking for this. I am using 78A wheels and I tried slowing down by skidding my back foot. I dono if that is dangerous but it kinda works I guess. Gonna try this tomorrow
Oh and my friends are also saying I gotta be fast to powerslide soft wheels, but I thought like crazy speed. You guys are doing it at my comfort speed (i think so, sometimes videos don't do skate speed justice) so yeah. Hope I survive
Nice man, glad to hear that. You can use your foot to slow down but it will shred up your shoes. That's why I think it's good to learn this technique so you don't mess your shoes up
thanks am literally learning power slides for a while and am getting better but am pretty sure speed is gonna make it easier but I don't have the confidence to to do it I have a penny does putting griptape make it easier
It takes some practice, don't worry. Also, Penny is gonna be hard to do it on since there's a lack of griptape and the wheels are very soft

I got a dinghy blunt as well. It is fun, but when I'm going uphill I find that I can't push the same power as my old longboard. If I try to push as hard as I can uphill, I get out of control easily. Any tips, or should I just practice more or go slower? Also, should I have my back foot in front of the back bolts, in the pocket, or on the tail? Thanks man.
Sounds like you just need more practice with balancing on a smaller deck. I usually place my back foot on the lower part of the kicktail, but you can put it wherever it feels most comfortable

Just carve harder. Flex and extend your legs like you're trying to jump. If it doesn't slip you'll just carve out of it. If it does slip then great.

It’s oh-MA-ka-ze. The Stress is on the 2nd, NOT the third syllable/sound. ;-) Yes, it’s not really all that important to this video, but if you can master sliding a longboard, you can definitely master saying the board’s name right. ;). the word basically means “It’s up to your (the user’s) discretion. So basically the name is an homage to the users using the board however they want.
It may be a very small difference to you, but it’s a huge difference to Japanese ears.... That’s like if someone said: “a-me-RI-ka instead of A-ME-ri-ka.

Can I poweslide 53mm 83b wheels?
i find toe slides easier for some reason by putting all of my weight on the front foot and then kicking out with the back foot. but i cant seem to slide heel side for a reason. i use 86a orangatang moranga's to practice. any tips?
Interesting, really? I feel like that's sketchier because if you catch an edge you're falling backward. Honestly it's gonna take time. The one other tip I forgot to mention is to do long drawn-out carves and gradually make them sharper when you feel comfortable. This will help you ease into it. It really has a lot to do with speed and commitment. Use all of your body weight and lead with your shoulders. Hope this helps!

I have a dinghy and sometimes I can do the heelside slide but it scares the shit outta me, the problem is the toe side, I can't seem to do it and it's much harder for me
Yeah toe side will take some practice. A lot of it has to do with commitment, but it is sketchy. Just take your time and don't rush into it
Everytime I try a toe side ots either very weak or I end up scraping my knee, but yeah I think I lack commitment, thanks for the video and the tips man, it really helps

wheel hardness does not matter at all, and you need to shift your weight to FRONT foot, not back. all video is totally wrong.
Also helmets are a must. And learning to slide on otang is giving yourself a huge handicap. They are just so grippy. Higher rebound wheels are gonna help a ton
