      I gotchu fam, i bought some of these a few weeks back, and ive been snacking on them occasionally. I think tthe coloring is fun and so is the shape, but they’re a bit big to fit in your mouth whole. I suggest cutting them along the seams and eating them in thirds. It’s very chewy, and have a very nice taste. A lot of potential to be a good snack if they released a grape or lime flavor to accompany the blue raspberry flavor. 7/10

    I've been using Shark wheels for years and I honestly love them. The number one selling point for me is the fact that if you hit a patch of gravel, you're not getting launched off the board. If you hit rocks, they spit them out to side and you just keep on rolling. I like to ride whenever and wherever I want, including rain and rough terrain, and they allow me to do so with confidence.
    I can definitely understand not being able to justify the cost for the average cruiser, but as one of the outliers who does benefit from them, they're worth it for me.
    I honestly came to this video expecting the usual response to them which is along the lines of "shark wheels bad, it's a gimmick, normal wheels are better, I can't handle things that are different", but I totally agree with your takeaway. It's nice to see someone skeptical giving them a good objective look.

      @danielkim9436 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Agreed. Ive had the wedge shaped pebbles kick me off with regular wheels. But haven't a single instance after switching to sharkwheels. Its worth the safety factor alone.

    • @MentalEdge
      @MentalEdge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How do they "spit stuff to the side"? Since they roll, wheels are stationary relative to the ground at the contact point, there is not sideways motion there.
      I'd say any improvement on rough terrain is actually from he simple fact that they HAVE tread at all. Tread/no tread alone is a huge difference, that's why slick bike tires are near useless on a trail. Tread allows for mechanical traction where material friction alone might fail.

    • @danielkim9436
      @danielkim9436 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@mashedt8rs290 I've tried soft duro and bigger wheels. It's more the geometry than anything else. Rode through a lot of construction areas in NYC. When you get a wedge like pebble, it'll jam itself, regardless.

    Physics minor here: less contact with the ground does not mean more speed. The friction that slows you down most is from your wheel bearings, not contact with the ground. Deformation, aerodynamics and other factors play a role too but a smaller contact patch almost definitely doesn't translate to speed. Longboard wheels get pretty big, and they're pretty fast too 🤷‍♂️

    Can confirm, Shark Wheels are pretty solid for wet and rougher skating. I ride daily on Sharks and I think that the bearings play a major part in how fast they will be. In the city, I definitively notice the difference if I need to be on the street dodging potholes and cars, they really offer some solid control that I haven't found with other wheels.

I currently run a penny with shark wheels and bones ceramics, in Chicago as my daily driver. i’ve put over 300 miles on it, sometimes in torrential downpour and have never had a problem. I have never been stopped by a rock while going over 5mph. Sharks are a must if cruising in a city or anywhere where there is certain to be a lot of road debris.

    Got a pair of these for my Nickel board a while back, then again more recently as it was bundled with some better bearings than I had. I personally got them because the original wheels on my Nickel were the completely flat ones with a sharp lip edge. When I road on streets around my hometown on the originals, any rock/pebble bigger than maybe 1/8 of an inch or so would stop the wheel in its tracks and screech against the ground. If I was going fast when that happened I’d get jolted forward, sometimes off the board entirely. Since getting shark wheels I haven’t experienced that nearly as often, at the very least needing to hit much bigger rocks to have the same effect. Also, like you mentioned, the grip on wet surfaces is quite good. I use my Nickel to go to classes on my college campus now, so it’s nice to have that extra wet grip for rainy days too. Definitely not a must-have replacement for standard wheels, but definitely worthwhile for daily use

  • @MentalEdge
    @MentalEdge 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a guy that is fairly knowledgeable for what tread does depending on how it's shaped due to my experience with bikes. The only valid claim here is the water conditions. Tread gives water a place to go. Under pressure, water gets pushed away, hydroplaning happens when that isn't possible, and it can't get out from inbetween the road/wheel.
    Rocks don't flow. And the wheels roll. There is not sideways "funneling" because they are wiggly. At the contact patch, they are stationary. They would however do better, for the same reason any tread does better on rough stuff. Mountain bikes don't ride slick wheels on the trails for a reason. Uneven stuff fits into the tread, and you get mechanical traction instead of just material friction. This would help, but not because of some "funneling" effect.
    A smaller contact patch does lead to lower rolling resistance and therefore speed, but only if hardness (in bikes, air pressure) goes up accordingly.
    These are gimmick. Fully functional wheels, but certainly not universally superior. The claims are misleading at best and false advertising at worst.

    I just imagine a guy with a stereotypical surfer accent be like "hey man, you got your shark wheels?"

    Easy way to get the same grip effect shark wheels have with traditional wheels, just cut a few grooves into them a few centimeters deep. There is a reason why cars and even bikes have treads, it gives more grip and control against the ground and in wet conditions.
    Shark wheels are not a reinvention of the wheel.. They are just a less basic as hell wheel that just looks "cool"

    I have sharks on my board and have had them for about 5 years and they’re still pretty new and I’ve never got pebbled with them on compared being pebbled several times a day with regular wheels where I used to live. They’ve saved me some hand scars. I like them :)
