It goes all the way up the chain. Coaches should have had better control over the players. A rough bump is one thing, but almost losing an eye is quite different. Refs should have been removed or fired. If nothing was happening, the players association or the league itself should have started their own enforcement & fines (how about a $10k fine for aggravated assault?). And the commissioner saying its nothing was just tacit approval.
If all these idiots recognize her as being important to the league taking the next steps, it might not be helpful if she ends up missing a season or two. Or the rest of her life (a couple of those falls could have resulted in major concussions). There still seems to be interest in Europe. She can get a lot more money and more respect there.

This season will be remembered for a number of negative reasons. The member of the WNBA that maintained professionalism and sportsmanship throughout the season was Clark. This includes players, coaches, staff, Commissioner and the referees. Yes, I do mean the Commissioner because she new the circumstances from the very first game and if she needed advise she should have asked.😮 The season was a disgrace for our youth as well as a failure for any overseas league to have observed. The WNBA will tank without CC, and that means lower revenues across the board and back to having no perks like chartered flights. A horrible person is a horrible person, regardless of their race, sexual preference or any other factors. The nasty that came out as the haters realized they could no longer rest on their laurels was vile and uncalled for. They should be ashamed, but they have no shame. The WNBA needs a good enema to clean out all the garbage refs and playa's who are eaten up with jealousy. Instead of focusing on elevating their own game, they tried to eliminate the one thing that has brought butts into the seats which helps every team in the WNBA. I agree. I think it’s extremely disinterested to claim there isn’t a major racial animosity towards her. The coach who claimed that wasn’t a factor is lying to us or herself. The player who gouged her did it deliberately. She then laughed about it. So did plenty other players. The obvious and irrational hatred towards her, even though she has constantly put on a professional face on what’s happening, and rarely complains, is unacceptable and unsportsmanlike. My biggest issue with the league is that they are a miserable example for young girls. The league is on life support and always loses money. This season was no exception. But there is value to women’s pro sports. It’s supposed to help model lifelong athletics for girls and young women, and be an example for sportsmanship. Yet the WNBA has even failed at that…

Most of the comments on here are just plain stupid.

Very few parents would want to take their child to a WNBA game just to see all the vileness, violence, hatred, and lack of sportsmanship towards all the players, not just Clark, displayed by 90% of the WNBA, including players and coaches.

    • @yakhooves
      @yakhooves 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@qt3dot14ish I legitimately was sad by what happened. I thought that some toughness against her is just part of the game. Works that way in hockey too! Gretzky was a relatively small and skinny dude in the league but his rink is was second to none. He had to push through the inherent roughness of the game along with teams “welcoming him” to the nhl. But even then, it didn’t seem to be personal, if that makes sense. Like, sure, the next new generational talent is going to have to get used to the pros!
But what I saw happening to CC this year was seriously discouraging. I watched with my niece, and reminded her that it’s okay to be a physical player sometimes and that it can be part of any sport where there’s drive and passion. But that it needs to stay on the pitch or the ice. It was never to become personal against players who just happened to be on the opposing team. That mutual respect, and teamwork along with competitiveness are all great teachers. But once resentment and personal animus got involved, you were no longer a sportsman or woman. You would have missed the point entirely…
Towards the end of this season, I was disheartened that this animosity had taken over the league, and not the awesome situation where the league could start to be taken seriously… but what truly sent me over was the eye gouge episode and the assailant’s smug attitude in response. She could have been permanently injured, and it’s so obvious that the disgusting failures of sportswomen the league would have been more than fine with it.
I told my niece, never to ever act like that anywhere. That what we saw was an abject disgrace and they STILL have zero empathy or compassion for what happened. If that’s what the wnba wants to set an example of, then I’ll never have my kids or nieces watch it with me. Because it’s completely unforgivable for a league in the precarious financial position the league is currently in. That ad far as my concern is, personally, it’s worth it to serve as inspiration for young girls. After this season, I can see I was wrong, and it’s seriously discouraging. I’m trying to get my niece into women’s hockey now haha!

Interestingly, I have heard cries of racism from male black commentators and black players. Any great player is great ONLY when they play within the rules of the game. The same applies to any league. When those rules are not adhered to there is disdain for the rule breaker. It is against the rules to allow flagrant fouls - period.

James Deane is as nice a person as Caitlin Clarke, and as a result, nobody has ever really had anything bad to say about him. I suppose most people who know who he is are men. It's not men who hate on Clark, though.

Caitlin's assists are low , fast and accurate , with the likely odds that she can berry the ball from where she stands or pulls up. That's what makes her so hard to defend . But her team deserves the credit for learning how to recept Caitlin's bullet passes . A little advice for the defender , wear high top tennis shoes or ankle rap if you don't want to break your own angles defending Clark.

Why are you so angry? Nobody died, nobody got raped, molested, or assaulted.
"The will have to live with themselves"? Of course they will. They were thrilled to exude the hatred, irregardless of the potential income.
It matters not about the WNBA or the players money. These miserable people did what they did because they wanted to act in that manner.
They had no regrets when they were assaulting Clark, and in the future they will also have no regrets about their actions.
If you want to be angry about something actually important, direct your anger to the people who are letting Diddy, and his customers, slide by on the second largest child molesting operation this side of the Catholic church.

I can only speak as a former ice hockey player, and as a Latino man (this becomes sadly relevant). I have never been a basketball player or fan. I had only ever watched the WNBA low light fail compilations for a laugh. I had only seen videos of the players demanding more money and attention when their whole league lost money and remained on life support. BUT!
I watched CC play, and though I only had the most basic of understanding of the game, it was still watching someone who was consistently entering a flow state, and in that zone, her play was watching poetry in motion. I never thought I’d watch WNBA basketball… aside from laughing at them. Yet this season, I watched CC play, and enjoyed myself with all the others like me!
But two things were brutally obvious. For all their whining, entitled, and frankly delusional rhetoric, the moment CC made those things possible, made the WNBA something other than a joke, these same entitled players attacked. And it’s not just the players. So called “legends” who people like me have never heard of, league staff, and refs, everyone seemed devoted to tearing her down. And later, players became devoted to permanently hurting her. As I watched this grotesque display of bad form and utter absence of sportsmanship, integrity, and respect, as a brown man, it became clear this was about her race. The moment that one former player turned loser said “black people canf be racist,” it screamed “this is pure racism.”
At this point, I wish CC would abandon this garbage money losing life support league, and go play for near 100 million dollars in Europe where the nastiness aimed at her would not be openly tolerated and encouraged like in the wnba. I would NEVER want my daughter to look up to the players in that league. They’ve shown themselves to be awful role models and petty, vindictive, and violent people. They’re a disgrace to good sportswomanship and a black eye to their game.
Let the league fold. I understand the importance of women’s professional sports as role models for young girls to aspire to. But no one should be aspiring to what the WNBA has devolved into. Let it die.

Caitlin is the most exciting thing to happen to basketball in....forever. I'm boomer who has now started following the WNBA again after years of a women's basketball desert. Not the fault of the players, but the view that women's basketball is not fun to watch, so they rarely televised it. Caitlin has brought the excitement back, not only as an incredible player, but also her strong character. Even with the blatant "eye poke", she was gracious and called it an accident. We all saw the angle that clearly showed it was NOT an accident'. So no matter how you choose to see the blatantly bad calls by the refs and the hatred of other players, she is a powerful force and a great role model. The WNBA needs more of her, as well as replacing the biased refs and get in honest refs with integrity. Cuz this young lady is here to stay, and I am thankful for her. Womens basketball is finally getting the coverage it deserves.
