As a matter of fact, I believe that part of why Stephanie White was so quick to leave Connecticut for Indiana is that she did want to win,but didn't want to have it handed to her the way the "officiating" did so in game 2. Also, the 3 game series should have been played as Connecticut-Indiana-Connecticut for the home structure. That way each team was guaranteed to have a home game.
I'd say the latest day the WNBA embarrassed itself was that atrocious 2024 Championship game where the WINNING team made just 22 of 72 shots, and 2 of 23 3-point attempts, en route to scoring a miserable 67 points - even with an extra 5 minutes of Overtime. Their all-star guard went 1-19 from the field. What a fiasco.
This is the hardest part about watching women's basketball. You have to tamp down your expectations. Missing layups and wide open plays are a norm in the WNBA. Very aggravating.

Yeah. That was the funniest part. It was supposed to be way more subtle. A couple calls here and there and Liberty win and no one notices. But then the Liberty completely choked and the refs just continued to do what was asked of them and it was WAY too obvious. But Cathy Englebert didn’t wear her NYC dress for the Lynx to win. Nike had their Statue of Liberty “ring” ad ready to go, etc etc. It’s crazy that so many people act like it was a legitimately called game. A close analysis of game 5 and every call reveals how lopsided the game was called.

And how can teams so regularly have clock shot violations?!? Particularly, in a championship game where the two best teams are playing? This drives me crazy about the WNBA. Even the Fever would often let the clock run out without ever putting up a shot. It seems basic to have one bench player designated to call out whenever the clock is down to 5 seconds or so and whoever has the ball must prepare for a solid shot. Instead, a player will look like she is about to shoot with 1 second left, only to try a pass to a more open teammate and, thereby, let the clock wind down. It is just painful to watch.

I agree that this game was pitiful. It was not the worst I have seen. That would be game 2 of the Fever-Sun series. Let's begin with the officiating. The disparity in whistles was ridiculous. To begin with, there was a free throw differential of 29-8 for the game. That's bad enough. But Sun players were bulldozing Fever players right in front of the referees with no call made, not even normal fouls called. This wasn't a basketball game, this was a league sanctioned mugging. The Sun were permitted to assault Fever players with impunity, while Fever players were whistled for looking at the Sun wrong. The big problem there is that had the Fever won this game, as they should have because any honest observer would say the Fever outplayed the Sun, the series would have gone back to Indianapolis for game 3. Indiana could have won it before a sold out and raucous home crowd. So that's the effect of the officiating. Let's talk about the league involvement. When the Fever said something to the league office about the officiating, they were told that the normal review process would take 2 weeks. As they told the Fever that they couldn't delay the playoffs that long, there was nothing that could be done. Now, this was a lie, or a series of lies actually. It would not take two weeks to review. When Chennedy Carter did the roller derby without skates hip check on Caitlin Clark that was ruled a regular foul originally, it took less than a day to review and change it to a flagrant as it should have. The same was true with the head shot Clark took from Reese's Cup. That, too, took less than a day to upgrade from regular to flagrant. So now we have established that the league could have reviewed and changed the outcome within a day. That's all the delay that would have been required. They would also have corrected a grave injustice and protected the players from harm. That's how bad the Fever-Sun game was, and the first game wasn't really any better.

19 to 10 in a 10 minute quarter? I remember playing in my 4th Grade Basketball team, we had 2 fifteen minute halves, and the score average would be in the 30s. And by 8th Grade, the total score between the two teams would be at 70 points.
