Winter time for me so waiting til Spring to tackle this. My front one leaks no other leaks i added some At205 for now and retorqued the bolts that are exposed a few were easily 1/4 turn loose. Maybe that will solve it maybe not. But anyways since I havent experienced this repair on the Pilots yet this vid was good for prep and insights to the easy to the frustrating points.
@kevinsmobileautomotiverepair Actually on a sad note my mom's best friend who was her mechanic and body shop worker just past after a surgery and didn't wake up having a heart attack. So I am going the extra mile for her.
Enjoyed your vide. I always wonder what the 2 inch plate with two bolts parallel to the PCV rubber tubing seen at 0:13 is for. It is at the lower left corner of the intake air manifold aluminum block. This is for Bank 2. There is another one for Bank 1. No one seems to bother to indicate what it is.
Take a screen shot and circle it so I can see what your talking about exactly. If your talking next to the dip stick to the left of it. That would be a mounting spot for a vvt selnoid which this year its near the oil filter different years they put it there. I think it started in 2010 I remember doing a vc on one and the vvt was also leaking making it look like only a vc was the issue.
@@kevinsmobileautomotiverepair I don't think I can upload a picture. If you view the intake air manifold aluminum block as a big turtle with the throttle body as head. Hey, so when I took all bolts off and popped open the top part off, the inside had some black gunk all around. I’m assuming that’s something that needs to be cleaned off (I’ve been having a leaking issue and that’s why I’m watching this bc it’s my valve cover gaskets) but how do you think should I clean it up? Is there a product I should use or just a towel? Thank you!
What your looking at is oil that has gelled and sticking to the top and dried up. Ever seen oil sludge up before? same thing Gas works engine degrease carb cleaner all works to clean it off. Is there any inside the engine or just on the cover?
@@kevinsmobileautomotiverepair I don’t know if there is any in the engine. Is there a way to know for sure? I was just going to replace the cover gaskets then do an oil change

Thanks for replying, I just learnt that they’re two types of engines. J35Z1. Which is in your video & the one I’m currently working on. The other J- requires top & bottom plenum gasket replaced.

Smart move no need to take out the throttle body because if you do you need to collaborate it again is pain.
As well as coolant getting air into the system

Will this process be nearly identical for a 2007 Honda Ridgeline?
Provided same engine size
is it possible to replace just the front valve cover gasket without removing the intake manifold?
I dont think so because the bolts are not accessible or the cover will not clear the rocker arms with the intake on.

Also do you have a video on the 07 or 2nd gen pilot motor mount replacement?
No i have not done them yet

Hey I got to ask, are you using the regular m12 ratchet or the fuel m12, I’ve been wanting to get the right one and which is better
I have the older ones right now. When they break out of warranty I'll get the newer ones. The fuel ones are faster rotation at the ratchet head.
That’s a lot of work. I appreciate the video. Very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
The removal of spark plug tube gasket is Important to show, some Rookie will not know what to do...
Over all its good. Thanks for sharing.
🙏
Not much to it not real science or procedure to it. Use a flat head and start tapping on the sides to get the seal to loosen up
Quick question I'm gonna change the pcv valve first for the p100 to p106 codes but most likely this is my problem right?
there is not a p100 code and 106 is a fuel injector code

Just the top half it's called a plenum gasket.

I usually remove the ground on the battery.
No need to your not touching anything electrical that would have power on at the time of service.

I came for the intricate labor work you didnt show😭🤦🏾♀️😂
Not everything in life is visual if you listen to what I said you can get the info needed .
Why wouldn't you just take the damn intake tube off? U kept fussing with it.
less items to take off less items that get messed up especially for older cars. Intake tubs is rubber and known to split apart upon removal.
so you did recorded the back 1st.... -_-
Does it matter? the vc is the same front and back sight differences aka wire harness and so on but all the same parts.
Take that air hose off wow
No need they like to stick and split trying to remove off the metal.
Seems like you done this once or twice 😂
1 or two yeah =)
Don't use anything but the caskets.
I use rtv to hold the gasket in place while installing and it's needed at the corners for sealer per the service manual
