- Brent Axe and Emily Leiker recap Syracuse Football's 26-24 loss to Stanford on Friday night at the JMA Dome on Syracuse football postgame presented by Crouse Health.
Brent and Emily breakdown what happened on a key 4th down play that cost Syracuse the game, putting Stanford in position to kick a winning field goal as time expired and discuss what head coach Fran Brown said about that play.
Axe and Leiker also discuss the mighty struggles of the Orange offensive line against Stanford and how QB Kyle McCord reacted to that, how the Orange running game can get going after rushing for just 26 yards against the Cardinal and provide injury updates for a few depth chart players who did not dress for the game.
They also reacted to opinions and answered questions from our Syracuse Sports Insiders!

As a Stanford fan, I expected you all to win this one. But don't be so shocked that the Tree won. They were close to beating Washington last year, and limited Cam Ward, too. They are a dangerous team if you don't take them seriously.
this is no different than watching a Babers team.
Groundhog Day AGAIN. I've seen this same game 100 times in the last 20 years. Just cut to the chase and fire Brown now and don't suffer for 8 seasons
This one hurt. We're still in the false hope part of the season and they can't even deliver us that😂.
God forbid the Stanford receiver get credit for running a perfect route as well as the QB throwing a perfect pass. I do not care who is covering and what coverage they are in, a perfect pass and route will come out ahead all the time. Happens all the time at all levels.
I saw Fran Brown's answer to the question about the 4th and 9 conversion. That was a really bad answer. Unacceptable. No competent coach leaves that guy 1 on 1 in that situation.
Is she kidding? The question isn’t why they rushed 3 instead of 2!!! The question is why didn’t they blitz a 5th guy to rush the throw, which had been working in the last couple of Stanford drives?!!!!! And then, the defender keeps his back completely to the QB so he has no idea it’s even coming??? C’mon!!!
She doesn’t know anything about football she’s just tryna get a job after college
No answers for that same stupid blitz they were running on every single play. Not great. And the obsession with deep routes on 3rd&4, OMFG. What a tire fire.
It's on Axe, said it was the Kiss of death last week with the Insiders talking about rankings Heisman sell out crowds. The cart was put in front of the horse.
YEP BRENT NEEDS TO GO...ALWAYS OPENS HIS MOTOR MOUTH AND BEHOLD...YEP
LOL?
They missed a ton of tackles. But the intangibles hurt. The officiating was bad, cold to start game and half, penalties, injuries, too many little things went wrong including OG 2 penalities and he disappeared, game management, play calling including very little motion and runs to the short side.
That being said I thought they made in game changes, 4 field goals only 1 offense TD for Stanford. Under Babers it would have been lost by half. They improved on 3rd downs remember they were 1-6 at half.
The fan base needs to be unrealistic. Brown wasn't going to turn them into a top team in one off-season. And, this loss was nothing like a lot of the losses under Babers. They are far more enjoyable to watch. And, the refs were flag happy on both teams with holding calls.
This game wasn't enjoyable to watch at all.
The coverage from Lewis on that last pass was excellent. It was just a perfect pass and catch. He couldn't have covered it any better.
Yeah he could've. He could've prevented the catch. Fran's excuse for single coverage on that guy in that situation was lame. Horrible strategy.
seriously it was literally perfect, it still hurts but the coverage washonestly perfect.
smdh
As a Notre Dame fan that watched Lewis for 3 seasons, that is his M.O. right there. No idea where the ball is and it’s either a huge play or PI. Feel for yall today.
@@Wearenotmarshall To be covering a future NFL Wr he shoulda had better help in that crucial situation🤦🏾♂️ That stung.
If teams gameplan to double cover OG why dint we do the same on Alic?
A big win next week ought to lift the spirits for a trip west. Go Orange!
Too much pre-game hype; Stamford was a reality check.
The offensive line has zero ability to run block it’s clear as day. The second the ball gets snapped 4 defenders are in the backfield. That’s likely not something that can be fixed in season that’s recruiting bigger and stronger players.
Honestly ruined the season for me.
Villari is lost running routes. You can't throw to him.
The bettor team won. Bye week this early was not a good thing. Back to reality this is a 6-7 win team and the schedule is really not that easy for a team that gets soft in the trenches. SU has great skill position guys so I guess it could be interesting. Villari is too much of a Babers guy ,need to see less of him unless he starts to buy in.
No respect for Stanford. ACC is not the Pac 12.
POOR SEWERCUSE....LOL SEE YOU DON'T BELONG IN THE ACC THE LAST 10 YEARS PROVES THAT. LOL
U guys r laughing immediately. None of this is funny….
Hard to believe Kyle McCord left a premiere OSU program for mediocre Syracuse. He doesn't have the supporting cast at SU. Tight end Valari blew a route leading to Kyle's 1st interception. The 2nd interception was on Kyle who followed it up with a great drive into the end zone.
I hope his O-line doesn't do to him what Tommy DeVito experienced at SU. Time to regroup from this poorly played game.
