  • A lot of my friends have approached me to ask how I've been able to shoot some of my favorite concerts, so I decided to make a video about it.
    In this video I will break down 3 different methods that you will be able to secure a photo pass for any concert. Mileage may vary, but if you work hard and try these you will be successful! Getting started in concert photography can be tough, but I truly believe that everyone can do it.
    This is a beginners guide for music photography but I think it should be helpful for varying levels of shooters.
    Media outlets can be tricky, so I decided to share some tips that I had to do quite a bit of research on to figure out. I hope this video will save you some time and trouble.
    Some other notes: You need to own a DSLR, understand low light, and know how to utilize your sensors autofocus.
    Media pass, concert photography, music photography, how to shoot bands, how to shoot hip hop photography
    How to shoot concerts.

    I fell into becoming a photographer for a band that is relatively successful here on TH-cam. After seeing a few of the band's shows in quick succession, I asked the band's manager I could bring a "pro" camera to a show. Part of that motivation was because I had a Sony A7III which I rarely used. Soon afterwards, I was shooting...and hanging out with them...everywhere. Indeed, I am in California now because the last eight shows of their tour were here and in Arizona this past month.

      @@BowenMoreno Sadly, with the current situation in Ukraine, it is likely the band (which is in Moscow) will have to cancel its tour which was scheduled to begin in April. Not only that, the lead singer is Ukrainian and in Kyiv, and I worry deeply for his and his family’s safety.

    Thanks for sharing the tips for music photography. I understand the tip about contacting publications, wanting to be a contributor. When they allow you to be a contributor, do you just shoot the photos, or do you have to write an article to go along with the photos? Thanks Bowen!

    Just found ypur videoy super helpful!! I have 2 questions regarding publications:
    1. Do you deliver photos only or do they expect you to deliver a written review of the concert aswell?
    2. Do you look for publications in the region of the concert or is nation wide possible too?
    If you find the time to answer, that'd be much appreciated. All the best feom Germany !!

      @@xxrqcxxrscp-ef5td I dont have answers to these questions. I reached out to fome publications without much luck. I started contacting the Artist Management and landed a few (unpaid) concerts shoots. Ranging from 500ppl to 5k Venues. Would recommend this strat from my own experience if you dont already have some connections to publicaitons

    How often do you get a plus one? Is it worth to ask for smaller shows?
    Also, does working with the promoter get you paid?

    • @BowenMoreno
      @BowenMoreno  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s worth asking - I probably get a +1 about half the time!
      Typically these gigs don’t pay.

      Starter concert photographer here. What I’ve been doing is straight emailing them from Lightroom. Although, I was thinking about going to Google drive to be more professional.

    • @BowenMoreno
      @BowenMoreno  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Lori! This is pretty straight forward. I usually make a dropbox folder with high resolution exports that I will send to my publication. I will also forward this folder to the bands rep that I spoke to over email.

    I'm a 15 year old who started photography in 2015, i obviously dont work for anybody but I really want to gain some experience and I want to be a concert photographer in the future. Would it really be possible at my age? I checked local facebook events and most of them are at bars which means I am unable to go but there have been some where its a possibility for me to go to but it would be something like a small christmas show but at a large venue where ive actually been before to see a show so since it's a small show there's a possibility that people would be allowed to do some photography, especially since i'm not planning to be paid for it but just want some experience with this type of photography. The example emails show as if i'm supposed to be working with other people like a small company or something and that is obviously not the case for me. Like the email at 3:23 says "reaching out on behalf of (name)" and I also do not have an editor. Would this be able to work out for me? here's a link to a google drive with some pictures i've taken, some good and some bad, a lot of these are just some I took for fun and not exactly intended to be seen as something that's supposed to land a professional job (which isn't exactly my plan at the moment anyways since i'm still a bit young) drive.google.com/drive/folders/142kTFAAdGO-D25SOyG26MFzpBkF2dYVk?usp=sharing I also have comments on for any critiques if anyone would like to give me some helpful critiscm, keep in mind all pics shown there are also unedited. Mostly supplied the google drive link so it gives a basic idea of some of my work to see if I would have more potential to do some small photography at some venues.

      You ask to get paid, and you say “no” to people who don’t want to pay you.
      If more music photographers used this basic approach, then more music photographers would get paid.
      Oh, and work on your game. Produce high-quality images. And, don’t show or share your average or shitty photos.
