    At 5:30 I used 3 pieces of 2x4 and made a H they ran the length of the pan on either side with the wider side along the trans pan then screw the 3rd board across the middle of the pan. The 3.5" is about perfect to keep anything from touching the pan. Then the jack goes on the 3rd 2x4.

    Yeah, I'm a lot like you, not a ASE certified auto mechanic, but I've done my own wheel bearings, brakes and rotors, u-joints, oil changes, all fluid changes, so, I pick and choose at 57, whether I want to do this myself or is it worth it to pay someone else in half the time. I don't have a secondary car to drive to work, for a week, while I struggle to get this done. And with the way the engineers design vehicles today, sure everything is easily accessible, on the computer, until the vehicle is put together.! Now, I have basically the same truck as you, only a GMC. Same truck, same motor, same year. I currently have 190,500 miles. Have had 2 complete transmission flushes, every 80,000 miles. I would have liked to change the transmission filter and fluid myself, but great engineering, I see I would have to drop the exhaust and jack up the transfer case, to get the pan off.! So, after talking to my local repair shop, they said GM suggests, not changing the trans filter until the 3rd flush. I have a noticeable change of gears, between 1rst and 2nd, at about 11 mph. Mostly downshifting. A "jug" if you will. Like it's searching for the right gear. Don't notice any slipping into gear, on acceleration.

    Another video suggested to put in an upgraded 6L90 torque converter. Better design than the 6L80E.

    Hey do both of those bell housing peepholes need to be covered up normally or is it not a big deal? My 2018 is missing the smaller hole cover

    My 2015 Silverado v8 6 speed just turned 100k miles and started to do a shudder at 70 mph ; should I change the transmission fluid or just REPLACE THE TORQue converter .?

    Fyi, take the transfer case off everytime you go to pull transmission. Makes it 10x easier

    Need to weld a drain bung on it, to change the oil more often 👍

    • @SnowDrift
      @SnowDrift  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      a Chevy tech told me the reason they dont come with a drain plug is becasue folks will DIY the fluid change without installing a new filter. but I agree with you, let us change the fluid more often and easily, if someone never changes the filter on their truck then thats on them.

    • @stacyevans1360
      @stacyevans1360 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I change the fluid at the oil cooler. It's faster and easier than doing an engine oil change. Then the filter at 60k miles.

    Hey, great series of videos.
    I hope your truck is still going strong!
    What kind of torque converter did you use? do you have a part number?
    I am about to do this exact job on my 16 silverado 1500. Sadly, it only lasted 51k torque converter failed, and there are a lot of metal flakes on the fluid. Also, hard shifts 2-1 and 1-2.
    I might need to do a whole rebuild on it.

    • @SnowDrift

      It was a torco torque converter I got on Amazon. 40,000 miles later it’s still going great. I believe I put the link in the video’s description

      What’s the price difference between a motorcycle jack and a legitimate trans jack?

    • @hitechrr
      @hitechrr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SnowDrift A trans jack is too high to work in a driveway. A motorcycle jack is under $100 in most cases and you can use it on your motorcycle also.

    • @SnowDrift
      @SnowDrift  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hitechrr I’m not talking about a trans jack that would be used under a lift. They make low profile ones with the chains. But I do like your suggestion.

      I rebuilt my 6l80 on my 2015 Chevy Tahoe. Filled up with amsoil ATF last week. It doesn’t like amsoil, I feel shudder. I just ordered 15 quarts of Mobil 1 blue label (flush and fill up). It’s arriving this weekend. 😅
