Robert Babicz in his studio talking about mastering. Tracklisting: Robert Babicz - Sin Robert Babicz - Neoreplicator Robert Babicz - Chrystal Castle Robert Babicz - Tarja's Dream
i have returned to this video time and time again, as my guide to base certain decisions on. even on a budget and recording analog modular to ableton, the concepts have helped shape how i approach mastering self-released ep's and the like. today, i came to be reminded of the 30hz-17.8khz rule of thumb, cause i'm picking up a cassette deck and it's response is 25hz-19khz whereas my previous was 20hz-17khz, and tho a lot of what i've taken from this vid becomes second intuitive nature, it always helps to rewatch. would love to send some material thru your machines some day.
I hate it when mastering engineers say that VST Mastering Plugins are 'shit'. Not everyone has access (or money to buy) multiple analog compressors and Studer tape machines. They maybe 'shit' compared to your expensive and 'rare' analog gear but none of that really matters nowadays since a majority of the listeners out there use shitty, cheap ear-buds and sound sources in the end anyways. I understand what he is saying, and he is, of course, correct. I just don't agree that VST Mastering Plugins (such as Ozone5 Advanced) are "shit". I completely disagree. They are NOT PERFECT but they are great in terms of ease of use, cost and functionality. If you know what you're doing... of course.
trsk, as scott just mentioned, we do understand they use hardware but not everyone has the access. Ozone mastering plugin sounds amazing when used correctly (mid/side EQ, etc). To say they sound "shit" is a bit extreme. Babicz is my hero but I would also have to disagree with his statement.
***** You missed the entire point he just made... All you just pointed out is that "those Ozone mastered tracks" don't sound perfect. That doesn't mean they're bad. That's like saying, "ohhh sorry you only got a 90% on your exam. You're inferior to Shing Yang over there who got 100% and thus you have no real value"... I'm sorry, but that's just not true. You can still get A grade sounding music with only using plug-ins, and many of the best mixing and mastering engineers in the world do exactly that.
Alter MEGA Video...vielen, vielen Dank für den Upload ! ! ! Dieser Babicz ist aber auch'n Killer. Für jeden der ektr.Musik macht ist dieses Video Pflicht.
3:00 dont take his words seriously.dont throw away those plugins.what he means is that the tracks he is intended to master shall not be limited before theyre sent to him.from my point of view it is something normal that should not be mentioned again .otherwise his statement might be confusing for beginners!
Das analog reverb is geil... Hab sowas in einer etwas anderen art mal in einem Mönchskloster gesehen. Das war ein großer zylindrischer Raum in einem Turm. Die Mönche haben gesagt, die stellen sich da rein und singen sich in trance.....echt faszinierend.
I fuckin love you! mach bitte einfach weiter, dein scheiss ist heilig!
after so many years... a few things got better, especially the plugin world got amazing these days..... but still use your ears......
Our ears are the best plugins.

yeah agree on that hi-end rocks, but then the masses listen to the stuff on crappy headphones ...or as 128/160 kbps audio on TH-cam...
Its also due to ingeneers and corp policy not working with same motivation when they develop plugin anyone can find throught torrent
Brutal was man alles braucht..
i use "prepare yourself" as a hi fi tester. this guy is the master.

Richtige Mench! Love 4 EVA Robacid!
@wittenbergdoor: The track at 3:14 is called "Neoreplicator" from the Album "A Cheerful Temper"
Top!
Robert ist einfach ne geile Sau.
Ja, DAS sind doch mal brauchbare Tips für den Soundalltag... wird beim nächten Track gleich mal alles ausprobiert :D
thx!
Babicz knows it is API but the German / English translator doesn't. There is also a word "cos" in the translation... like "because". :D
finde das interview klasse.
on good quality analog machines digital will never come

uou! awesome! also i have a roland juno.. is it possible to know how you created the controller?
Nevermind, I found it. It's called "Sin" on the same album.

wow 2019
He can even make deep house sound futuristic (Warm Rain). What I want to know though, what are those monitors!
At 10:27 when he's talking about "big studio companies" I don't believe it's "EPI" but rather "API".
The subtitle has a typo.... He said it correctly.
