Hi folks, lIl be uploading a behind the scenes on this video in the next few days. It'll share many of the techniques used to make films like this... and explain why I felt the need to re-upload a couple of times ;)
You know, as much as I love these little edits, you do realize that these keep resetting your viewer counts for this, right? What you could do is simply link the improved versions in the description or comments for the old ones, which as a bonus would also allow people to compare the before/after.
A fantastic work of art. Would love to see this be a album or even a book with the songs. They are shocking yet moving. As a storyteller In training this provides a lot of helpful information. Good work, never a bad video. Have a great holiday
I never noticed how natural the puppets’ movements are and how expressive the Narrator is. His eerie eyes add just the right amount of dread to an already unsettling tale !
Don’t wanna be an ELA teacher, but I think it’s kinda symbolic how whenever the boyfriend offers a cup of water, he is met with hostility. Just a really cool detail imo.
As a resident of the pines myself, I truly appreciate the work you put into telling stories worthy of the ill wind that blows through the wood, the creaking footsteps in the night, the snapping twigs that echo the presence of something sinister, and the macabre feeling that you're being watched, only to turn and see nothing amiss. Your storytelling is some of the best mediums for horrific folk tales that come from our neck of the woods, and I hope you never stop telling stories such as this. The chill up the spine of all who hear is a testament to your power as a storyteller.
It's criminal how few views this video has. These types of videos have so much heart and charm and it'd be an absolute shame if they stopped being worth doing for you.
Barnaby, I certainly hope you don't have a bout of unhealthy perfectionism striking your heart, like some folks here are prone to struggle with. I think we can all agree you hit this one out of the park.
Barnaby, please don’t work on these for too long, I would hate for you to wait too long between posts, or worse yet, get burnt out and leave the platform like all those other perfectionists. I just want what’s best for you ‘cause I’m hungry for your content.
A little “roughness” is a good thing. This was awesome and I am watching it AFTER I watched the BTS video… You are so freaking talented … I wasn’t expecting the young man to be alive in the basement
"She'll kill every man who walks this land for sending her to hell" Something about that line has such power here; the instrumentals, the strain to reach the high note, the finality of it all. Well performed.
I don't quite remember the details of the previous two uploads enough to be sure of what changes were made, but I love how this time I think the Storyteller is more engaged with what he's telling. Like he controls granny, and appears behind the cloth of the vision. Makes me really get to see the little details of his movements and hands. It's so amazing how these are just little hand puppets. Great work!!
YES I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHO APPRECIATES IT, every time I listen to that part I get full body chills and goosebumps, I ESPECIALLY LOVE the background snare-y bass and the vocals. And yes it is ABSOLUTELY beautiful and hypnotic 😁
After that behind the scenes video I studied this one as well and noticed that grandpa’s body was actually there and I never noticed that detail before.
Well after seeing every version, I now know this song by heart. Granted a chilling heart, but hey. Seriously, I love this hunting song. The lyrics are so well thought of.
I've been hoping for this for a while and being born and raised in Appalachia it only makes it better. The fact that each episode in this series has such a distinct difference is so lovely. So far it's been a Germanic forest, winter sea, and Appalachian cabin. I have so much love for your work Barnaby it's been such an inspiration to my own art.
Just brilliant!! Your pieces really bring me back to my childhood, we used to have a puppet show about our creepy folklore legends, but now its all gone. Thanks for keeping this art alive!
I finally noticed the outline of the ghost in the lightning when the girlfriend looks back at grannys corpse, bravo on that detail. I'm also seeing a lot of artifacting in the black background, I don't know if that is my internet or if reprocessing and uploading the video multiple times has caused that.
I was glued from start to finish, you rendered simply yet powerfully a catchy story! The amount of work behind it is astonishing and a testament to that is it feeling effortless…
These videos with the horror stories are my absolute favorite of yours, thank you for your incredible talents of writing, production, and performance. Your stuff is amazing, man. Seriously, it makes me angry that your stuff still seems to be underrated on this platform.
after I watch the behind the video I want looking for the second doll at 6:17 when the boyfriend find the foot prints in the lightning, the lightning at the ritual 6:31, and witch or ghost possessed the girlfriend show with the lightning again at 7:20
these videos really deserve a ton more views than they're actually getting. the creativity and the quality alone is worth over millions of views. keep up the good work man. one of the best type of videos on youtube
It is incredibly rare that I like videos. It needs to truly be something that wows and shocks me, something I want to watch again later. You earnt my like. Many times over.
I finally saw the extra character that was mentioned in the behind the scenes of this video. If you slow down the video and pause during the scene where the boyfriend finds wet foot-prints, there's a glimpse of what I think maybe be ''the witch'', at 6:17 .
I JUST NOTICED IT, I thought it was grandpa’s corpse after the orange guy was push down the stairs at 6:11 OH ALSO THE WITCH IS AT THE END AT AROUND 7:20 with the lightning flash, someone noticed it 😁 OH I JUST NOTICED IT AT 6:17 DAYUM I COMPLETELY MISSED THIS!!!
This is an excellent story with incredible puppetry in display to convey it. I like how a lot of the horror in the tale is about the injustice of extremes; the boyfriend is protective and a good partner to his girlfriend, but as a man, he suffers the same fate as the cruel men that murdered the witch. It goes to show that the cycle of violence is driven by hyperbole.
Just came back after the Q&A to watch this masterpiece again. Watched it with my girlfriend in the dark for the first time and it really gave us chills.
This puppet has to be one of my favorite narrators in existence, it's so chilling and spectacular! I feel emmersed in every second of this here tale... The narrator has me feel like he could be older than time itself, be cool if he had a back story of how he came to be
6:04 in the behind the scenes you said there was another figure that wasnt granny, i think its the grandpa and i think it appears in the marked time, tumbled and left of the young man. I thought it might be the witch but i couldnt find her at all.
Unmatched! i would suggest you to use small OLED screens for the mouth and that you paint around your lips with Musou black paint to give your mouth floating illusion.
So, this was the first video of yours I've watched after just seeing the wired coverage, and wow, what a great one to pick, i'd be stupid if I didn't check out more
This was my first impression of your work after first seeing a video from Wired of your puppets. I had never heard of you before! Man, oh man! I am blown away! You are the (puppet)master! I bow!
MANNNNN……… I was expecting to click off, but the moment that song starts…… I only found myself more interested by the verse, ended up staying till the end…… now wishing it never ends. MOARRRRRR……… I need MOREEEE
I think I've watched all 3 uploads of this and I've enjoyed everyone. My only note is I feel so weird that your lips never seem to close or maybe it's a fish eye lens? Edit, can't wait for the behind the scenes.
As an Appalachian, this is pretty on par with our folktales and honestly, good for the "witch" xP (If you want more of our actual folk horror, you should check out the books "The Tell-tale Lilac Bush" and "Coffin Hollow," they're all from my state of West Virginia, which is the only state that's entirely within Appalachia! Also, it's "apple-at-cha" and I will die on this hill lol)
Tennessean here. While I've forcibly removed nigh-all of my south'ron accent, I still refuse to call it anyhting but "Apple-at'cha". Along with my love of sweet tea, mint juleps, and southern cooking, it's about all that I got left of that.
I thought this was a video game for the first minute then a tv show for 2 minutes then a blender project for 30 and after that i realized it was puppets
Holy shit people are so ridiculously critical of your work sometimes. Like Jesus, a lot of commenters seem to suddenly be experts at puppetry lmao. Dude, as always, the stuff you make is incredible. Very entertaining, creative, and technically unique. I will never stop being inspired and amazed by the things you’re able to create.

Hey Barnaby, am i going mad or is this a reupload? I seem to remember showing this to my parents this halloween
what happened to him
@@MrRandomSuperheroIt is a reupload. He mentions it in a pinned post.
I never noticed how natural the puppets’ movements are and how expressive the Narrator is. His eerie eyes add just the right amount of dread to an already unsettling tale !
Normally the video mouth screen would hit uncanny valley hard for me. And this is "normal" for me, but in the context of horror works really well.
Don’t wanna be an ELA teacher, but I think it’s kinda symbolic how whenever the boyfriend offers a cup of water, he is met with hostility. Just a really cool detail imo.

The creepiest character is a puppet based on a burlap voodoo doll. Don't y'all love it when story elements just work?
It's criminal how few views this video has. These types of videos have so much heart and charm and it'd be an absolute shame if they stopped being worth doing for you.
Barnaby, I certainly hope you don't have a bout of unhealthy perfectionism striking your heart, like some folks here are prone to struggle with. I think we can all agree you hit this one out of the park.
This video was my favorite the first time. There was a more in depth opening introduction maybe?
Barnaby, please don’t work on these for too long, I would hate for you to wait too long between posts, or worse yet, get burnt out and leave the platform like all those other perfectionists. I just want what’s best for you ‘cause I’m hungry for your content.

4:26- 4:42 hypnotizes me. The rhythmic footsteps, the wordless vocals, the chattering of bones…
The third time's the charm, they say.
After that behind the scenes video I studied this one as well and noticed that grandpa’s body was actually there and I never noticed that detail before.
Phenomenal attention to detail! The ghost of the 'witch' around the 7:20 mark was a great touch!
I love the conceit of a "Grand-Other", it's beautifully clever!
the off-kilter lyrics just add to the uncanniness of the song, I love it
Well after seeing every version, I now know this song by heart. Granted a chilling heart, but hey. Seriously, I love this hunting song. The lyrics are so well thought of.
3:50 “some man who nowadays we call a snitch”
Lyrics Ladies and gentlemen😂
I've been hoping for this for a while and being born and raised in Appalachia it only makes it better. The fact that each episode in this series has such a distinct difference is so lovely. So far it's been a Germanic forest, winter sea, and Appalachian cabin. I have so much love for your work Barnaby it's been such an inspiration to my own art.
I'd LOVE to have just the guitar music by it's self. It's so beautiful.
Just brilliant!! Your pieces really bring me back to my childhood, we used to have a puppet show about our creepy folklore legends, but now its all gone. Thanks for keeping this art alive!
Hey, hopefully, during This Halloween of 2024, the Creepy Puppet could be fixed so that we can have another one of these stories.
I finally noticed the outline of the ghost in the lightning when the girlfriend looks back at grannys corpse, bravo on that detail. I'm also seeing a lot of artifacting in the black background, I don't know if that is my internet or if reprocessing and uploading the video multiple times has caused that.
U have talent for making stories. Keep doing an amazing job. I want to see more this of puppet.😮👍
Your production and story telling quality have become outstanding! It's so well made and unique. Hope you keep going!
Wish you all the best!
The lil blue and orange have PTSD from the song of the siren they need therapy
That's my favorite kind of spooky, dark elements with a splash of music and humor!
Beautiful. I can't say enough how hauntingly beautiful these creations are.
What a brilliant show! I love how the puppets move so smoothly, so much character to them!
Y'really have great talent, Mr Dixon!
I was glued from start to finish, you rendered simply yet powerfully a catchy story! The amount of work behind it is astonishing and a testament to that is it feeling effortless…
I need this on spotfy so bad
⭐️ Spoiler alert: Mr. Dixon is telling himself to get a haircut!
Remimds me of Aurelio Voltaire's work! Love how far you've come
These videos with the horror stories are my absolute favorite of yours, thank you for your incredible talents of writing, production, and performance. Your stuff is amazing, man. Seriously, it makes me angry that your stuff still seems to be underrated on this platform.

this is INCREDIBLE. The storytelling, the song, the design, the straight up ACTING. I'm completely obsessed.
I found that other burlap doll that was mentioned in the behind the scenes 7:20 at the lightning flash. Its the lady from the lake :0
It is incredibly rare that I like videos. It needs to truly be something that wows and shocks me, something I want to watch again later. You earnt my like. Many times over.
Dude! This is straight money bro! The whole production was awesome!!!
These videos have become a haloween tradition for me. I look forward to new When Darkness Knocks and rewatch all the others during spooky season 🎃
Am I going crazy, or did you post this several months ago? I distinctly remember watching this before...
Some version definitely existed before
A terrifying tale, fantastically told. Loved it!
At 1:54 they could have made the boy sitting down a little more detailed it looked kind of rushed.
This is Absolutely Stunning! Great Work Barnaby!
I’m always happy to see your vids come up in my feed , I really enjoy all the puppets but especially your singing and playing.🙋🏼♀️
Watching the end, and just as granny closes the lid my one light
Source in my room flickers
What am I seeing at 6:17 in the lightening flash? Anyone else know if that's an odd shot of granny or another puppet, maybe?
It might be the “witch” having come from the water
This is soo frickin cool, awesome puppets, sick song and perfect camera work, this deserves so much more views
I finally saw the extra character that was mentioned in the behind the scenes of this video. If you slow down the video and pause during the scene where the boyfriend finds wet foot-prints, there's a glimpse of what I think maybe be ''the witch'', at 6:17 .
I just caught it
I JUST NOTICED IT, I thought it was grandpa’s corpse after the orange guy was push down the stairs at 6:11 OH ALSO THE WITCH IS AT THE END AT AROUND 7:20 with the lightning flash, someone noticed it 😁 OH I JUST NOTICED IT AT 6:17 DAYUM I COMPLETELY MISSED THIS!!!

Just came back after the Q&A to watch this masterpiece again. Watched it with my girlfriend in the dark for the first time and it really gave us chills.
Your little creations bring me so much joy. Thank you!
I just saw that when the lighting strikes while the girlfriend has a knife, what looks to be a shadow or ghost of the widow about to posses her.
I've had the song stuck in my head for days.
I’ve never wanted the chords for one of your songs more than this
Omggggg another tale!!!!! Someone hire this man!!!!!!!!!! They are awesome!!!!!
This puppet has to be one of my favorite narrators in existence, it's so chilling and spectacular! I feel emmersed in every second of this here tale... The narrator has me feel like he could be older than time itself, be cool if he had a back story of how he came to be
This is like "The Tom Waitsmare before Muppets Christmas Carol"
Work of art. Love your stuff man.
This is just amazing. I have no words for how well executed this is.
You truly are really talented !
6:04 in the behind the scenes you said there was another figure that wasnt granny, i think its the grandpa and i think it appears in the marked time, tumbled and left of the young man. I thought it might be the witch but i couldnt find her at all.
wait no, i think i saw the witch at 7:19. That must be the other figure!
Found your channel again I used to watch it a few years ago. Loved this story, keep up the awsome creativity and art!
I really like also the way that for example grandma is closing the chest, it s like she is in motion
HELL YEAH!! I love these! The silly little guys and the story is just amazing! Good job!!
“I DONT GO IN THE BOX GRANDMA” best line ever
You are such a master of your art but also comedy. Not even 45 seconds in and you've got me dying. Pun intended.
Unmatched! i would suggest you to use small OLED screens for the mouth and that you paint around your lips with Musou black paint to give your mouth floating illusion.
I absolutely loved this. Every single part of this series has been amazing.
That's a tale as grim as Grimms'. Very well done.
Fabulous work! Beautifully written
I bow!
The amount of effort you put into these tales!!!!!!
wow this is absolutely incredible, so glad I've stumbled on your channel
Found you through wired.
Got to say, you deserve the sub.
With the bottom of my heart, thank you for the content.
Really appreciate it.
6:38 this is definitely my favorite part 😂
just discovered you. looove what you do. thank you.
had to watch your making of, but now I saw her ;)
Ahhhh…. The Granny Doll was also the Grandfather on the basement floor
i love a good re-upload. your stuff is great to watch and rewatch
MANNNNN……… I was expecting to click off, but the moment that song starts…… I only found myself more interested by the verse, ended up staying till the end…… now wishing it never ends.
MOARRRRRR……… I need MOREEEE
Fantastic! Great performance and production
This is one of the most incredible things I have seen in all my years browsing youtube. You're amazing!
I really love the little Woolly puppets
A jolly early Christmas Halloween jaunt.
This is masterful work. I'm absolutely speechless. Well done and can't wait to see more!
I think I've watched all 3 uploads of this and I've enjoyed everyone. My only note is I feel so weird that your lips never seem to close or maybe it's a fish eye lens?
Edit, can't wait for the behind the scenes.
i keep loving your designs more and more
Your actually so talented man keep up the hard work
Honestly, this is a better cut, wonderful edit, thank you very much. I know it can be painful to kill our darlings...
As an Appalachian, this is pretty on par with our folktales and honestly, good for the "witch" xP
(If you want more of our actual folk horror, you should check out the books "The Tell-tale Lilac Bush" and "Coffin Hollow," they're all from my state of West Virginia, which is the only state that's entirely within Appalachia! Also, it's "apple-at-cha" and I will die on this hill lol)

This reminds me of The Magnus Archives a little bit, but much more musical
Your song writing skills are just as good as your puppetry
That was AWESOME! ONE of the best skits ya did. WE need a FULL ADVENTURE LIKE THIS ^
I thought this was a video game for the first minute then a tv show for 2 minutes then a blender project for 30 and after that i realized it was puppets
Ever considered putting your songs up on Spotify? :P I really wanna put this one on my favourite songs playlist! XD
I need the first two !
What a gripping nightmare ridden story Song. 😮
WOW!! Just.. wow!! This is amazing!!
Holy shit people are so ridiculously critical of your work sometimes. Like Jesus, a lot of commenters seem to suddenly be experts at puppetry lmao.
