The music was at least 50% of my enjoyment of the show. Thank you Bear!
Bear is modern Beethoven
Wait, this is Bear McCreary himself? I thought it was just a fan playing his songs :)
Love your music man, the best thing about Battlestar Galactica was its music. Cheers from Turkey.
It's a blend of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" and "The Lonely Man Sonnet" from The Incredible Hulk TV Series... It perfectly captures Gaius Baltar's struggle to maintain his sanity while aboard the Baseship. Perfect piece. Flawless performance! People wondered who the new "Williams", "Horner ", "Safan", Silvestri "," Elfman", and "Arnold" would be. Bear McCreary is the answer!
Right up there with Daniel Licht
Bear is the goat. Not saying he hasn't phoned some stuff in, but who hasn't? Silvestri is phoning it in more and more nowadays. But Bear is really coming into his own. His work on God of War/GoW Ragnarok really showing versatility and maturity.
This song has been played in the background of some the hardest times I've ever faced. And every time it gives my entire body chills. When you wrote this song, Athena must have put you in a godly trance or something. So say we all.
Still as beautiful as ever
The best composer thus far of the 21st century...
Brian Tyler is another amazing one.
He’s good, but Masayoshi Soken has him beat.
This is the most beautiful song in BSG. Thank you Bear
This is simply amazing. All I can think of when hearing this music had Beethoven Cylon Baseships in mind... I am sure I am when hearing this great music. Baseships , Hybrids performing some kind of Space Ballet ... always in balance and every move is (Samuel T Anders) perfection and beauty - and so is this play.
This is one of my favourite melodies of all times. Thank you for this.
After hearing this, I'm definitely going to buy the sheet music so I can play it myself. I am so grateful they released the music so us musically-oriented fans could fully appreciate the pieces written for this series (an listening to it on a car stereo loud enough to rattle windows does NOT constitute 'appreciating it').
It is 2023 and I am re-watching the entire Battlestar Galactica these days. I know who all the Cylons are and still I find the series more engaging and interesting and gorgeous than ever. To me it is the best SciFi series. And the music makes it whole and perfect. Thank you very much Bear for it.
am i still here, three years after my last comment. i will never forget the show and your work, Bear!
I loved how relaxing the music aboard the cylon basestar was, the music was always so peaceful on the cylon side
This is probably my favorite BSG piece. :)
It's so moving and myterious, mournful and peaceful.
Plus he's pretty easy on the eye.
This especially might be common among many like myself who have binged watched the series a couple or more times over. Bear’s music contribution was such an intricate part of the series, there’s no way I can listen to any one score without recalling the corresponding scene the score was used in. Incredibly immersive and impressionable.
Don't know how many years later. Tears and hope. Like all your music captures the essence of the show
its been 8 years from last Season.. ill never forget, never
If I could play the piano I would so buy this book and play the songs all day long... *sighs*
But luckily for us "musical underachievers", videos like this exist! Thank you very much for sharing your music with us in that way! :)
you could learn :). it's pure joy.
I have been putting of watching the last half of the last season because I don't know how I will be able to deal with it being over just like I cannot stop listening to these pieces from the show.
Beautiful rendition of the song. I just finished the series and loved it.
Such a song of despair and loneliness. It's fantastic. Thank you, Bear, for all the music you created for BSG. I've listened to the entire soundtrack hundreds of times...I wish there was more! Thank you!
Beautiful. Love that one.
Thank you Mr. McCreary for posting these works for all of us to enjoy. This work in particular is hauntingly beautiful. Movie (and television) scores are rarely given the respect they so rightly deserve. You are the emotion to the images. I wish I had your abilities. Even if I could learn the notes, I could not make the music.
Simply beautiful man - don't stop.
Music in this show was of such great match and quality universe has never seen. Love you Bear. The above comments take the words just out of my mouth. You my man are a magic spirit.
Beautiful Bear, beautiful !
Wonderful. Thanks, Bear.
Best original music that I heard in BSG. Cheers from Turkey...
music is the transfer of one soul's essence to another. no form of communication is neither more sincere nor more direct.
Bear, you have broken the bonds of human disunity. No other composer has ripped their heart out and transplanted it in such a way you've achieved. Never stop making music, for yours attains a height of expression that will be the goal of musicians to challenge for years to come.
One of my all time faves
Easily my favorite song from BSG's soundtrack... thank you for doing such an excellent job sir!
Just Beautiful
This is a great piece of music.
This is my favorite original piano solo ever!!! I want to learn to play just for this....
Beautiful.
Absolutely Incredible Bear, I have just re watched the Entire Battlestar series, and damn you music is good :)
Awesome! I thought having the piano represent the Cylons on their baseships was just brilliant. Also love how you fit in Baltar's theme in the second half! Thanks for sharing.
Been going back-and-forth over the best fingerings for this all week-sooo helpful to see the composer’s own preference! Gave some a quick try before leaving for work and you do on bar 38 is more comfortable than what I settled on. (Was using 5-4-5-4 on the top instead of 5-4-3-3.)
@imabladerunner "Too many notes... It is not true, Herr Director?" Ha, ha...
I love the composer's inspiration, emotion, and his particular rythm.
god it's beautiful. thank you
wonderful
Bear is definitely going to live forever.
Thank you Bear for your work on Eureka, I'm sorry to hear they are ending the series. Also I appreciate your music on SOCOM 4,
Represents the broken and strange society the cylons created for themselves perfectly. This piece is just full of awesome.
What the eeffffff (frack?) who disliked this?! Really, one person had to be all defiant, it's just cuz he's too awesome...
instant subscription!
Genius ..that firsttime you hear this as Baltar wakes on the Basestar in seas 3
... if your a fan.... chilling stuff ...almost a hymn to the hybrids .. she floats in the heavens ..space is her home .....
Bravo !!
When I walk the long, old, lonely and deadly pale enlighted corridors under my dorms I think of this song how it would fit in here, in the place of never-ending night and lonelyness that feels as empty as a baseship in the darkness of space... Soulless...
Every time I hear Bear playing this song, all I could think of is Lucy Lawless...
beautifull wish i could play and create such a master peace to
dat b section gives me shivers every time. phrase i will never forget.
Bear you are a new Mozart, and Beethoven, and ....
I love you!!!!
Thank you!
I genuinely don't think I'd have got through my book rewrite if I'd not discovered your inspirational music, Mr. McCreary. Big thanks for the upload and for all your gorgeous work.
@vity01: I cannot believe you are going to critique the composer's own playing of his music. Next you're going to tell him that, "there are too many notes."
Bear, brilliantly written and played. Thank you for taking the time to upload videos. I have found so much (words cannot describe) in your music, especially the pieces for BSG. Thank you very much.
I can smell Ludvig van inside that one ;) magnificent.
perfection
thumbs up for the resurrection hub soundtrack! brilliant music to represent cylon v cylon
This is what passion looks like
Theres inspiration and theres guidance. This is guidance. He was the vessel. No man could capture such poetry as work.
Is it possible?! No. 7 has returned! No wonder Cavil was jealous! Your name is now officially Daniel :-)
Yeah, me too. I'm actually not that much into fanshirts, but I would love to wear this one! :)
2 toasters have viewed this video
bear you are awesome
January 10, 2021 the count is now 6 toasters
See this piece would be so much more 'beautiful' if it was played with more emotion and the natural slowing and speeding, but it isn't because it was the theme for that "Cylon Ballet" scene; highlighting the robotic nature etc. So clever.
Exactly man. "Perfectly" human.
You can hear different pieces in Bear's work coming through big time. This one reminds me of Moonlight Sonata.
So say we all❤
some day in the afterlife him and Mozart are gonna get together and yea you wanna be there for that Jam!
Got that Derek Stevens influence from "The Lady I Know", good stuff.
This is brilliant and goes beautifully with the series, well done and many thanks. I would love to play this, anyway I could get a midi file somewhere of this song? tks again
This kicks ass. End of line.
The Shape of Things to Come
Very Phillip glass, love it.
I always think I catch hints of Finzi.
I understand that I need a Sostenuto pedal to play? Am i right?
Great song from BSG soundtrack
I need to know where to get that tShirt! BSG fans should recognise what it is!
@allenmonroeiii I was being sarcastic in response to @Vity01. I love this song.
JUMP !
a few hints at the caprica theme in there. Was that planned or just the way he wirtes I wonder.
Hey, he plays measure 43 (1:48) differently than what's printed on the songbook! :)
Ill take another two seasons of galactica now.
@Vity01 Do you know of a better recording of this you could link to then?
Just wondering - do you think of this piece as two groups of three or three groups of two in each measure? I keep flip-flopping, but the melody makes me lean toward groups of three.
@workyholic ... a BETTER recording? Of the COMPOSER playing it on HIS OWN PIANO?! Is there such a thing? If you mean the recording from the show, you can buy it on Amazon.
I also think the piece should be a little slow - though I'm sure the composer's interpretation is more legitimate than mine! I wonder why the repeat at the end of the A section isn't repeated? I think it needs it to establish not only the form, but to really drum deep into that sense of monotony and isolation.
I honestly think this is better then Moonlight Sonata, Moonlight Sonata probably much more complex key and harmonic theory and stuff, but this song has much deeper emotions...
This makes me wonder: Do you happen to have any plans for any of SOCOM 4's music to be done for piano? I can imagine a few ways the main theme or any of its reprises could be converted to piano.
Does anyone know what the name of the piece of music is that is mostly strings? It's almost a love theme that gets played a lot when they are in the Opera House on Cobol, and when Starbuck meets Anders on Caprica, like when she is leaving the planet and leaving him behind.
The Shape of Things to Come off of Season 1 OST. Best track Bear has ever written hands down
@@brunskies92 it's something. i love the solo piano in sonatica...although haven't yet heard this one in the show...just finished season 1.
The Shape of Things to Come. It's really perfect with the conclusion of the season. Pulled me right in.
Bear definitly is a Cylon !
WOW...is this like Mozart and Beethoven in SPACE??? Wow, I wish this was on Star Trek!
1 person was on caprica during the bombing
Прилича ми на Gloomy Sunday
Are you quoting the dvd lol
Oh no doubt! If he had practiced it certainly would be better!
The point I was trying to make is that his composition is flawless and extraordinary! It's so wonderful that his own piano skills are not worthy of performing his own composition. I still appreciate this recording, obviously, because it is somewhat of a novelty hearing the composer perform his own creation. But, he would tell you himself.. he's not a master of piano!
If he thinks himself so.. but he doesn't.
@fishfingersncustard one group of two and one group of four
that 1 dislike was justin bieber!!!
This reminds me of June Mermaid from Xenogears
Reminds me of Nier.
Have you ever noticed that Bear is always wearing the same clothes in each of these piano solo videos?
He's a cylon.
Someone buy this man a real piano! The tinny twang and reverb just kills it! Best composer!
James Fondren Not true Bear actually gives most of his BSG residuals to a Bear rescue organization that aims to stop mankind from hunting the bear to extinction like we (foolishly) did the Cylon. RIP Sasha XOXOX
Ok. I have listened to this recording several times.. I am beginning to see the merit in the crude string tone. Kara's father (pianist/composer) couldn't provide for his family and also be a composer. It makes sense that his compositions would likely be composed on the worst pianos in bars such as Kara dreamed him in the episode where she received the coordinates melody..
With that thought in mind this piano is winning me over..
Should I delete my original comment?
Is this about musical perfection or storytelling art??
i like it. suits the piece for my ears. i'd like to learn on something with different tone...and compare.
