@Commenting Guy: He clearly typed "One of the.... " It was even the very first thing he typed, lols. For all you know, Frank is his favorite guitar player.
But can he play a song like *Tease Me, Please Me,* or *Hit Between The Eyes?* The Scorpions moved ON from all this formula pop shit Uwe Von Roth was doing with them!
Among musicians he is often cited as one of the most influential guitarists out there. He, alongside Ritchie Blackmore, is also often considered to be largely responsible for the neo classical-metal genre and a lot of the neo-classical elements we see in metal in general.
I have seen this man live 4 times. This year at 68. He still rules every note he plays. Legend. The vibrato, the phrasing, the notes, the legato, the feel.....Top5 on my list.
@@metaldrivermd2333 but there re similarities if you listen what aldimeola does in elegant gyspy record and the swedish guy . In fact its one of his favorite record
How did he do it? How does he do it? Even when he slows it down my eyes can’t follow his fingers no sooner than I see where he is then he’s gone 5 steps ahead!! What a musical imagination Uli has. So melodic. So fast. Such an innovator. Truly one of the greats.
Wow. 3:14 String skipping and inside picking at the same time. wow. His pick hand doing those earlier fast runs... it looks like he's playing half as fast.
He’s my favorite. Yngwie made a career of “borrowing” largely this solo played faster. You know that. Uli’s Mighty Wing Cadenza is also mind blowing technically but is so musical. I think he has technique at the very least on par with Yngwie, but Uli did it first, played with raw, yet controlled emotion, and is humble and kind. Still killing it too.
That thing he does from 1:26-1:29 is heard a lot in Marty Friedman's playing. Awesome idea instead of the typical descending triplets or quadruplets . Has a really nice flow to it. Actually at times you could close your eyes and it could be either Marty Friedman or Uli. Definitely see how much influence Uli had on him.
I can't believe the idiots here who say his guitar sounds like crap! This man's tone is pure, and if you take the time to actually listen to the recording, you can see he has crafted this tone on purpose to replicate the singing sustain of a violin, while retaining the clarity and cleanliness of it! It takes a LOT of skill to play so cleanly - and he plays it with even LESS overdrive/distortion here so we can see exactly how he plays it! And you idiots call yourself musicians... (facepalm)
I agree with all your sentiments about the Sky Guitar, I wish I had one myself more than any other guitar. But they are not idiots for not liking the same things we like, they are only idiots for thinking it's attractive to bash someone. Don't be that guy (or gal).
He's playing with no distortion in order to teach this amazing solo and to make it understandable, note by note. Of course, in concerts he use pedals of volume and effects. Just don't pay attention to all the idiots in youtube that don't use their only brain cell
tracy smith Although Hendrix is my absolute favorite guitarist, that was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen anyone say lol Hendrix, Sabbath and many others from the late 60s, and early 70s, built heavy metal, so you're just trolling.
First time really looking into this gentleman. Damn I didn't know my history that he played for the Scorpions. (Love the Guitar)....Funny how fate worked out for Matthias Jabs.. and please, you cannot compare guitar players, everyone is different, and all have great particulars about them individually.....Jabs just happened to be the right man for the job, and please, he is an excellent player, he fills the riffs without overkill and allows the melodies to shine through as well...... Man, I luv luv luv this guitar, sweet access to the high range of the neck! Good day all!
I am gobsmacked by that guitar and bracelet!! Is that Labradorite? Gorgeous! Okay, I am here because I have been watching him play this song with the Scorps and am mesmerized by the joy on his face and the way he plays too. He is the master!
I said it before I'll say it again, Uli Jon Roth is the most DISCIPLINED guitarist I have ever heard! Gosh even when played clean, his solo sounds HEAVY!
D'Artagnan gives a master class in playing and singing. Lol Seriously though check out how deep the frets are scalloped 3:00..he could store Der bratwurst in those. He really is an awesome player. Such a unique person and talent. He plays effortlessly and so calmly. Like the Bob Ross of shred
He's using a legendary item there. It only uses 1 MP per spell. He said in an interview once that he had to dodge 250 lightning bolts in a row without getting hits. Took him about 3 hours to do.
gosh his right hand is so relaxed, it looks like he's bowing a violin (like with that flowey motion, you can see how loose it is, but still hitting every. single. note.) wow!
he left scorps right after they were done progressing. i mean they sounded good still until the sell out hurricane album which still was okay, but, the Roth years (like Van Halen lol) are the best.
I'm glad there was a record bin for import albums in the USA back in the mid 1970's because that's when we discovered Ulrich Roth's great guitar playing in the Scorpions!
Damn, this has helped me out so much. I was either 'hammer on all notes', or 'speed pick all notes'- never considered to smuggle in a hammer like that. Fascinating. I'll be applying this to so much.
In addition to Uli being an astonishing guitarist on par with Satriani, Malmsteen and Van, he is also know to be quite the swashbuckler and is one of Germany's finest swordsman...
A very, very underrated guitar player (just because he doesn't live in England or America?) But I'm glad he slowly gets positive recognitions largely. This world is a sick place. Too many guitar hero (or artist) was out of sight until he/she died then people gets busy over-praise him/her. Love you Uli...!!!
That last lick at 3:18 is my favorite part of the song, apart from the tempo changes. Those change-ups remind me of Sabbath. And that lick, well, its just plain NEAT. Simple and effective.
Thank you ShinningV67 for uploading this because its a great help for me learning the tune, Chris Zoupa is a great help as well but I think Uli Jon Roth THE MAN is more accurate!
The thing to really watch is his right picking hand; effortless and extremely relaxed. His hand is literally just waving over the strings; his wrist hardly moved.
Even with the extra string and frets I figured out a lot of stuff I learned incorrectly. Including the main riff, though I prefer my two string version. The beginning intervals are interesting but he changes it up a lot, sometimes changes the diminished stuff too, I’m not a big fan of the reggae flamenco inspired variations of the verse parts he does like lol but that’s why he’s the GOAT. I see that hat and I think of the I’m Gonna Get Ya Sucka pimp walk tho 😂😂
He's earned the fucking hat.
Is that the Stevie Ray hat?
Guitar powers come from them myserious gems, man.
@@isaacl.baldeonguerra1623 he has the eye of Charon right there on his guitar! Not fair....but such is life.

Agree completely. I was fortunate enough to meet him twice.....couldnt meet a nicer more down to earth person as well.
In the original video, he looks like he is falling asleep.
But can he play a song like *Tease Me, Please Me,* or *Hit Between The Eyes?*

he doesn't get enough credit as one of the greats.
He does get it but mostly amongst people that play guitar
bossy
many guitarists including malmsteen, friedman and becker was influenced by him.
Among musicians he is often cited as one of the most influential guitarists out there. He, alongside Ritchie Blackmore, is also often considered to be largely responsible for the neo classical-metal genre and a lot of the neo-classical elements we see in metal in general.
Omg, an entire comment thread without any of the immature bashing that is almost everywhere else on youtube...
I love you guys !

This guy pioneered neo classical metal along with Richie
and Randy Rhoads
badideass um, not really
And Al Di Meola
Ritchie Puts the Idea,Uli improves more the viuortism and classical, and all we known what the Swedish Guy did ;)

Lesson of the greatest riff ever from the first hand. Priceless!...
When Uli plays it slow and clean it sounds like a beautiful spanish piece. When he plays fast with distortion it sounds like the apocalypse.
I believe he has also recorded it acoustically on a Spanish guitar.
I am from Spain , and yes sounds amazing when it does clean , it reminded me classic guitar ,just beautiful stuff
he took inspo from Flamenco music he said in an interview
When I first heard this song I thought ... "what if this was played on a nylon 😵💫"
How did he do it? How does he do it? Even when he slows it down my eyes can’t follow his fingers no sooner than I see where he is then he’s gone 5 steps ahead!! What a musical imagination Uli has. So melodic. So fast. Such an innovator. Truly one of the greats.

tritonic scale
The solos mustaine did in conjuring and the last one in wake up dead was inspired by uli Roth.
Not just Marty, YJM, Dave Mustaine and lots more also used it. YJM use that descending licks even on ballads like Save Our Love and Brothers!
Unbeatable! Feeling, soul, technical and creative... all in one! This is Uli Roth! He reaches new heights!
Uli is a too much underrated guitar player. He is one of the very best!

The koolest thing is that I watched him progress through both our lives,,thank you Mr. Roth!

The best kind of lesson; from the man himself.
15 years later and i still always hear his voice düdeldüüdlüdlü like a clockwork whenever i hear this song
That is the smoothest, most relaxed right hand I've ever seen play a guitar. 😁
