This is Adam again. As I have said before, Danny never ceases to amaze me and I still say he is the best coach and instructor on the planet. What I enjoy most of these lessons is that Danny not only tells me "what" I am doing wrong, he clarifies "why" I am making a faulty swing. Thanks to all including Laura and Leo.
Danny has three videos that have changed my golfing life. I’m a 17 handicap who can play like a 13 some days and a + 30 others. This video along with his trail arm impact and momentum videos have changed the quality of my ball striking within two sessions. Why do I love this drill? It virtually guarantees clean contact. Seeing it, I thought it was a beginner’s swing that would give me better accuracy at the loss of distance. Instead, I was hitting the ball a club longer immediately!
Lovely to see Adam in person this week and to say hello. ‘Focus on the target’ work with him was great. He is the overthinking golfer’s ultimate overthinker. Wowzer !
Adam is so much like me with the over analysis that I just wanted to tell him to hush (talking to myself, of course). But he is passionate and I can identify! Your "reverse engineer" guidance is so great. And Adam, I love ya!
Danny, you're by far my favorite youtube instructor. Truly an amazing service you offer us and I sincerely thank you for these videos. My son and I are more motivated than ever to hit the range and improve our game after each one of your videos we watch!
Found Danny M.’s videos a month ago. I watch one video a week and practice it. My game has improved tremendously, am I am having so much fun! I have been using these videos to teach my youngest. And been sending them to my old golfing buddies.
Been waiting for a simple swing video as I have been struggling with consistency with all my clubs. Played 9 holes today and only fluffed 1 shot. The simple swing worked on all my clubs and gave me a crisp effortless strike. Came off the course smiling and thoroughly enjoyed it for the first time in ages. Thank you Danny.
I look forward to your videos every week, Danny. This was another really good one. Love the simplicity and common sense around more consistent ball striking. I’ve moved my handicap from 13 to 7 based largely on your instruction. Thank you! Scott Bruns
Is there a double thumbs up button! Thx Danny for reinforcing the idea of analyzing the strike and then simplifying how to correct it by telling your body what to do.
Many years ago I remember reading in an old Golf Digest article a series of tips by the pro golfers of the day. One that I remember is a tip from Jack Nicklaus in which he says that in a good swing you should "restore that radius". Your video reminded me of Jack's tip. When an 18-time major winner gives a tip it's a good idea to listen!
Danny, this tip, which I picked up from you a while ago in a different video, has completely changed my game! It is nothing short of amazing! Thank you ❤️
This deserves a whole other comment! I've just left a practice sesh at my local pitch 'n' putt, and my smile is as big as Adam's! What I MUST do now, is just focus on this, and the lesson where you talk about difference between pitching and full swinging. But whatever I do, this is now firmly in my mind. Bonus: It has made me realise when I'm trying to power the club through with just my arms, I didn't realise just how much I was doing that, especially in the ruff. So now when I'm swinging like this, I tell myself to "resist the urge" and I've been making sweet contact. I feel like the more I do this, the more confident I'll get, which in turn will stop me doing the whole anxious 'arm thing'. I've been a bit down on my luck lately, I've had to sell my clubs and just have my wedges and putter now, along with an old four iron and 5-wood. But this has just made me so happy, thanks Danny, you're a saviour!
Truly brilliant vid. I'm knew to golf (Mid 40's) Always loved the sport. Left handed seemingly always a little more difficult in terms of availability of clubs and enhanced cost but I'm loving the journey and your videos coupled with my passionate, detailed application have advanced me so much in my early months that even some friends think I've been playing a lot longer (Privately) than I have. I haven't I'm just watching, listening with practice and practically applying your methods. You're my go to. I haven't played a full 18 yet only 3 rounds of 9. Each better than the last. My last round (3rd time) I hit a 44 on a par 39 at a beautiful 9 hole course in Scotland called Polkommet.
That is huge! I like the fact you're getting us to focus on the face. Often when I strike a ball nicely but it has gone left for some reason, or pushed right, I instantly wonder if I'm too inside or some other mechanic. Club face, that's what I should be concentrating on. Very nice, thanks, Danny!
Looking forward to getting on the range this week and seeing how I get on. I know I overthink/over-analyse and I think this really help me focus on the right way to solve my full swing issues.
Thank you, Danny. Another great video. An amazing ability to distill a lot of mechanics into usable concepts, visuals and indicators on what we should feel throughout the swing. Your videos have made a return to the driving range and the course simpler and a lot more fun. Spent a long time swinging too hard with inconsistent contact. Much appreciated.
Just found your channel. Simply the best one out there. Thank you for the clear explanations. Have you done a video on how to choose the right GOLF BALL for ones style, swing speed, etc. So many options out there.
Love this, thank you for these videos Danny. I always tell my instructor he has a magical aura where I do good only in front of him haha. I think you have that Aura! Hope I get to learn from someone like you some day!
Danny first of all your lesson of getting out of the bunker that I saw 4 weeks ago by squatting down a bit more, oh my GOD, I kid you not, got my confidence back, and I have been leaving my ball within 2 to 5 feet from the hole. Thank you thank you. Now after watching this video, biggest problem atleast for me is alignment. I tend to forget to get in back of ball and pick a spot 6 inches in front of ball. However, two issues, maybe at 71years young, I have senior moments, how far from ball when strinking irons, and how far down should my hands be. Finally my swing speed is around 82-85 miles per hr. down from 100-105 mph 25 years ago. Made a mistake, maybe, in getting senior shafts on my M4 Taylor irons. I have to give it a chance. Will see.
Fantastic video. You kept it simple. Starting with your circle, I can't wait to get in back yard and regenerate my swing. 70 years old myself, I've been hooking ball badly. Thanks again Danny! 10 stars out of 5
You're killing me! as an older golfer who thinks he can learn this humbling game, this was a great video. Due to wonderful family constraints, I stopped playing for about 6 months and unsubscribed, not thinking I would come back to it. And I did... And you are helping me re-group and get better. I may actually hit 100 one day.... Thank you for everything you offer for free!!
Danny this is again a very striking lesson for me. Yesterday I went to the range and immediately improved my technique; I had no problem in finishing the swing smoothly which has been my curse for 30 years. So far very thankful but I have a question. I had quite a few very very low straight shots besides very nice high shots. Can you advise what to do? Regards, Nico
I’ve been asking people recently for their definition of consistency, you would not believe the wired and wonderful answers. I would say repeating the same thing over and over again.
Hi Danny, Thats a nice lesson to come back to after a vacation. I haven't played for a while except for hitting a few balls at a simulator at the resort I stayed at. I always look at my stance and direction my club is facing if I spray a shot. The lesson demonstration was a 'Wowza' 😀 By the way, I watched your content on a TV channel in Bali. Well done for your international recognition apart from TH-cam. Stay well
I truly enjoyed seeing Adam's excitement in hitting a good shot. I'm an over-analyzer, over-engineer and nothing seems to work. I'm gonna try your suggestions!
Great video as always! Do you have any drills or videos on fixing an excessive in to out swing path? I am swinging at 10-12 degrees in to out and am having trouble getting a more neutral path!
Loving the videos Danny!! I’m really struggling with my driver at the moment. It’s either coming out really low or I’m hitting it into the ground. I’m trying to get my set up right. Inside Front foot with ball and sloping my shoulders to get the elevation of the shot but still coming out low. Are you able to do a video of Hitting Driver Low!? I feel like I lose all my set up at the top of my back swing and at contact my shoulders are back to trying to compress the ball. How do I resolve this. Amazing videos love the lessons. Thank you!
Hi Danny- thanks for video, really helpful…my question is related to transition into downswing, what is the sequence and what would you recommend. Also, it sounds like this means there shouldn’t be any squat or sitting into left side and losing height? Thanks again. Bernard
I honestly feel jealousy how every single time you swing a club in the studio- doesn't matter what club or how hard or one hand while still talking to the camera- it makes this perfect gentle sweep on the turf...just so amazing 5:11
RADIUS CONTROL what a golfing EPIPHANY. How would you, with this concept, hit a fade or a draw?? Would love your thoughts or maybe discuss this in another weekend video. Danny, you are such a GIFT to all of us who are trying to make this game simpler. Much much thanks!! Jim Rockwell/Seattle, Washington
My pleasure Jim, always remember the ball doesn’t care what your swing looks like only how the club face interacts with it. To hit a draw for a right hander at the moment of impact the club path is heading right of the target line and the face is closed to this path. So the radius doesn’t change just the direction of the circle and the alignment of the face
One of the root causes of the problem this drill fixes is the notion in the minds of the golfer that the arms should feel “relaxed” at address which results reflexive reaction of trying to lift the club in the backswing which bends the lead arm to much at which point the swing is just a wreck waiting to happen. The simple fix which produces the results here is to: 1) let the weight of the club pull the lead lever arm as straight is can, then; 2) get any remaining ‘slack’ out of it by pressing down gently with the pad of the trail hand and keep that pressure constant throughout the swing. Those two instructions provide a conscious ‘blueprint’ to follow at part of the set-up routine. Most golfers until instructed otherwise will rest the club on the ground when gripping it then lift it which contributes to the slack arm problem. For that reason a better way to apply the hands the handle is: 1) Standing upright, bend elbow 90° with LEAD hand palm up. Rotate hand 90° so it is vertical and put the club in it. This positions the ulna and radius bones in the middle of their 180° range of pronation / supination. 2) Add the TRAIL hand to the grip the same way for the same reason: elbow down, palm up, then rotate hand 90° to then the ulna and radius of the trail arm in the middle of their range of rotation. Overlap the pad of the trail hand up high over the lead thumb (i.e., Vardon Grip) 3) Bend forward at hips allowing the WEIGHT of the club to pull the lead arm straight. DO NOT CHANGE THE GRIP because the locking of the two hands together in the air will cause the ulna and radius in both forearms to rotate inwards ( ) as the arms straighten causing a STRETCHING of the forearm muscles. Let the LEAD arm bear the weight of the club, keeping the TRAIL arm slightly bent. “Dynamic tension” not slackness will be felt in the arms due the counter-torque action resulting from straightening arms and FEELING THE WEIGHT OF THE CLUB. For that reason do not ground the club “dead” on the ground at any time. 4) The final step is to apply slight downward pressure with the trail hand to take any remaining slack out of the lead arm. An increase in the counter-torque of the forearms will be felt and the arms and shoulders will feel they are locked together. It will become very difficult to move the hands except by moving the shoulder like the turret of a tank moves the barrel of the gun. This isn’t something I invented, it is how Ben Hogan suggested the arms should feel at address in his Five Lessons book. The notion that the arms should just hang loose started to enter golf instruction in the Nicklaus era and that will work if the golfer understands how to make the club force pull the lead arm very straight in the takeaway extension which develops the same counter torque between the arms - what forces the non-load bearing arm to fold elbow down. Putting the counter-torque in the arms at address makes it easier to properly execute the ‘one piece’ takeaway where shoulders must rotate to move hands and club back.
Excuse the expletive but bloody hell! Just tried this and found I would be virtually hitting the ‘person’ and this was because my rotation was all arms! Soon as I actually rotated my upper body I came back to the start point … can’t wait to take this out to the range/course … Tnx though missed the Wowzer this time 🤣
So its posture, straight left arm and body turn. Simple right? Well, let's try doing it on the course consistently, maybe not so simple, (at least for me!). Great lesson Danny, Thanks
Think less on the body parts and more on the club head returning millimetre perfect. Allow your body to achieve this task as opposed to instructing it to keep the arms straight. It’s a subtle difference but a big one
My latest discovery was going back to the 10 finger grip. I picked up golf a year ago after not playing for years so I've been trying the interlock grip which worked and didn't. 2 rounds ago I decided to go back and have been WAY more consistent. I am a former baseball player so I'm sure that's the biggest reason
Being completely serious, took this to the course today and after focusing on what was discussed in the video, I struck my 6 iron 196 yards. Hit a 6 iron 175 uphill. The average golfer hits their 6 iron 140-160.
Danny been working hard on my game. Can't figure out why I love using my 5 wood off the tee but cannot control my driver are the swings that different?
Danny, Another fantastic drill. By the way, could you share the standing hitting mat that you have in your golf sim area. I'm putting a sim in the garage and I am looking for a mat that size.
Its another classic case of someone trying to hit it harder than they're comfortably able to. Theres so much stuff about distance online that people think they should all be hitting it 50 yards further than they do. Less is very often more in golf.
Very useful drill both for the physical aspect and the mental aspect of striking the ball. There was early on in the video a remark about millimetre perfect. With just a simple bit of trigonometry I worked out that changing the angle formed by a line through the arms and a line through the club shaft at address and the same angle at impact by just a couple of degrees makes a difference of 6 mm to the position of the club relative to the ball. For example, say the angle between arms and shaft at address is 160°. If at impact that same angle becomes smaller, say 158° then the sole of the club will be 6 mm lower at impact than address - the club hits the ground before the ball. If at impact that same angle becomes larger, say 162° then the sole of the club will be 6 mm higher at impact than address - the club may not touch the ground at all - you've thinned the shot. With such small changes producing such drastic differences in shot outcome, what should players be doing to control this angle and produce millimetre perfect outcomes consistently?

You’re so so right. I was having this problem, then to kept that radius I had to think to keep my arms straight to keep the triangle intact.
Absolutely, the trail arm has to bend and the wrist have to hinge but this still simply makes sure nothing is too excessive

Most golfers until instructed otherwise will rest the club on the ground when gripping it then lift it which contributes to the slack arm problem. For that reason a better way to apply the hands the handle is:
1) Standing upright, bend elbow 90° with LEAD hand palm up.
Overlap the pad of the trail hand up high over the lead thumb (i.e., Vardon Grip)
3) Bend forward at hips allowing the WEIGHT of the club to pull the lead arm straight.
Hope the video helps you 😁👍
Being completely serious, took this to the course today and after focusing on what was discussed in the video, I struck my 6 iron 196 yards. Hit a 6 iron 175 uphill. The average golfer hits their 6 iron 140-160.
Brilliant well done!
Purpose driven tasks!
Happy to help 👍
Great video
Thank you Tumi
Danny, Danny Maude!!
😁
Danny been working hard on my game. Can't figure out why I love using my 5 wood off the tee but cannot control my driver are the swings that different?
Danny, Another fantastic drill. By the way, could you share the standing hitting mat that you have in your golf sim area. I'm putting a sim in the garage and I am looking for a mat that size.
Hi there, it was custom made and I believe imported from Hong Kong
got to be the easiest lesson ever so i will try it out because my striking is very inconsistent and not helped by continual fiddling!
Love to hear how you get on Paul
Not only touching on the proper swing mechanics but the psychological issues we all deal with. Thanks again Danny,
Thank you Tom!
Overthinking. That's my problem. My brain is in overdrive usually. Love this drill. Thanks Danny.
You are very welcome
Nice👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback Michael
Brilliant! 😁
Adam is a national treasure. We need an Adam Lessons dedicated playlist.
We do indeed
I wish that I could spend a day with you on the range DM.
Hello Danny!
Hi Rohan
Its another classic case of someone trying to hit it harder than they're comfortably able to.
Theres so much stuff about distance online that people think they should all be hitting it 50 yards further than they do. Less is very often more in golf.
Absolutely Robert
That get control of radius stuff is starting to sound like George Knudsen. He advocated that, making use of centrifugal force to maintain the radius.
God I love the old guy!!! Yowzer!!! 😀
Me too 😁
