As someone who has spent a lot of time learning from JF, this video is dead on exactly what its like to sit in the bench room with him and learn something. This is awesome.
Great video John. I love watching and learning. I have fixed a buch of Peavey and Fender gear using my electronics training from the automotive industry. I also took advanced electronics training back in the 80s. Things have changed a lot since and surface mount technology and my old age prevents me from doing much now. I have a hot air soldering station and know how to do the work but eyesight and unsteady hands are a deterrent.,
John, if I ever have a weird issue with one of my amps that I can’t fix. Would you want to troubleshoot it on your channel if I ship it to you and pay for your time? That would be really cool! Thanks!
Thank you, seems like you might have mentioned the problem on my mixer. I’m experiencing a buzz on my headphones. Also the power connection area gets so hot the rubber foot on that corner melted. I opened it up and the transformer is set there similar to the one you’re working on except mine does not have the metal box around it. Is it normal for it to get that hot? Where can I get a replacement transformer and box. I know you mentioned the box keeps from causing a buzz Thank you
Awesome channel John!!

Pretty soon, I'm going to restore a 5150 that was used on the 1991 Van Halen tour and post the progress here. Stay tuned....
Great video. This brings me back to my time doing vintage hifi repair full time. Intuitive troubleshooting in an efficient manner.

Great video John! Good information and deductive reasoning watching your process diagnosing the issue!
I spy a Peavey gray guitar polish cloth still in the package 👀
@ScottXDavidson that's one that I keep dry, so it goes back in the plastic after each use.
