Dude, what an awesome project, the cab looks great! These old late 70s/early 80s Peavey cabs are keepers, virtually indestructible, sound great and you can push em volume vize as much as you like, these 15" speakers are each rated at the least at a couple of houndred watts so you can plug anything you like in this and it'll be aight.
Thanks man! And nice, good to know. I'll definitely be testing it in the future with a guitar amp, bass amp and radio music lol just to see what it's like
Oh thank you man! You're too kind. I been looking for a bass so can fiddle around with it but have found one that catches my eye and in my price range.
Had two of them back on the 80's-90's. When I bought mine the black widows were an option. The basic speakers were made by either Becker or eminence. The nice part of the bw's is that the speaker basket can be replaced when you blow the speaker rather than replacing the whole speaker. This allows for a huge cost savings. Peavey still supports repair parts for even their earliest bw's.
heyo, this is a relly cool video! ive noticed almost all older peavey black widow speakers have an issue where they get foam sucked into it, but after theyre cleaned theyre 100% like new, i got a pair of peavey ils 1594h's from a landfill, paired with black widow 1508-8 and 44xt's, the only issue is that the black widows sucked in foam and needed to be cleaned, after that they were like new for absolutely free!!
@@inputmig6625 wow! That's is cool! Nice find! And I didn't know they had that problem with the foam. Good to know, thanks. I was just cleaning cuz I like to clean lol I really need to get a head for this so I can jam on it
I used to have one of these, and that cabinet would REALLY move some air! It could cut through any mix! I'd like to find another one. They're really great cabs!
@@ant_yep I had one in my teens and sold it...picked up playing again 15 years later and found one at a pawn shop, loaded it with some 600 watt eminences, the cab is amazing
if you can, whenever you get a chance, that would be rad! I have a Valvestate head (VS100h) and a Peavey Mace and am hunting for the perfect 15" to pair with them
@@SenorDrewfus nice gear man. And ok sounds good. I meant to do a video on the peavey cab but I didn't have a bass head to test it. I didn't think to try a valvestate on it
I had this cab not with Black Widows though. Played through it with my Mark III. It could boom. At the time I was playing T-40 too it could get loud. Lol. Wish I still had it.
Dam thats cool. I feel bad cuz I still haven't used it. I was meaning to but I don't have a bass head and then time flew by. I had to look up T-40 bass cuz I didn't know it and MAN! They looks Amazing! What a great setup. Peavey 2x15 cab, Mark lll and t40 bass! NICE!
@@ant_yep yeah there’s tons of videos on the T-40s. Built like a rock and as heavy as one too. Peavy never skimped on making stuff lightweight lol. I got the bass and Amp still from 40 years ago lol!
@@patpompeo9354 wow... I can only imagine the weight. I'm definitely going to be watching video on the t40s. What... did the T stand for Tank lol And man thats really cool, really. Good stuff 👍
Been playing Bass since I was 14 years old. Grew up on Peavey bass Amps / Speakers.. As far as the speakers "15" Black Widow" I still think they sound just as good as anything out there. I have played through Markbass speakers/Ampeg speakers/ Hartke/Fender etc etc. They are just ok but nothing special in my opinion. I had a Sunn Sentura 1 Back in 1984 that I ran through a 15" Black Widow enclosure along with extra EQ boxes and that used to give me a fantastic sound. Traded that in and got a Peavey Century Head that I absolutely loved as well. Great Job on the restoration.
Thats cool man! I love hearing stories like that. You got to jam on a lot of cool amps. Nice! And thanks! Just showing an old Peavey some love. I been wanting to get a head so I can jam on it but I'm not a bass player so I really don't know what's good or not
Your grandpa's cabinet?? I bought one of these in 1991, it was old then, and that was.... damn I guess it does make sense it's your granddad's! I still have mine, has the original drivers with the square magnets. It's a beast and I hate how heavy it is. But I do love how it'll punch you in the gut.
Nice! And you got that right... Heavy! Feels super solid. Built like a tank. I tried my hardest at that time to find older Peavey speakers. They're becoming harder and harder to find. You have a nice set up man. That thing sounds brutal 🤘
Show before and after pics at the end of your video! I looked at the begging to look at the difference. I can see people hitting you up now to clean up their speakers. 🔊 💵
