- Whether you're interested in getting a DJI Neo 4k Drone or have just bought one, this video will tell you everything you need to know to get set up & flying this incredible AI self-flying drone that follows you, which is also one of the cheapest 4k drones you can buy.
It’s packed with features such as 4k video, palm take off, AI subject tracking, gimbal & digital video stabilisation & automated flight patterns via QuickShots.
I bought the DJI Neo Fly More Combo Kit to make this DJI Neo review & have been very impressed with its capabilities, offering some of the best drone image quality at the low price of £169 or $199. It really is a bargain DJI drone!

As a self flying drone that follows you, it’s the first AI DJI drone & is an ideal budget friendly drone for beginners. It weighs just 135g, making it a light drone for travel & an excellent mini pocket drone with camera too.
It’s also a regulation friendly drone & a hand take off drone. As a drone with subject tracking is a brilliant selfie drone too.
The DJI Neo Fly More Combo Set comes with the DJI Neo drone, the DJI RC-N3 remote control, 2 extra intelligent flight batteries, each lasting a maximum of 18 minutes per flight, a two way charging hub, propellor guards, a gimbal protector, USB-C to USB-C charging cable, two spare propellers, four spare screws & a screwdriver.
There are four ways to control the DJI Neo. First is palm takeoff which uses AI subject tracking & automatic footage capture to follow you our complete a number of automated flight patterns & QuickShots. There is also a custom mode where you can choose between Direction Track, Helix & Boomerang.
Second is using Mobile App Control, via the DJI Fly App. You can also use the Palm Control flying modes, but can also use virtual joysticks on your phone's screen to control the DJI Neo. Thre are also voice commands to fly the DJI Neo.
The third way is using a traditional remote control connected to the DJI Fly App. The DJI RC-N3 remote control is included with the DJI Neo Fly More Combo Set but not when you buy the drone on its own.
You have QuickShot - Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, & Boomerang - as well as other intelligent flight modes such as FocusTrack which includes Spotlight, Point Of Interest (POI) & Active Track (DirectionTrack) & Cruise Control which enables the aircraft to fly at a constant speed automatically.
The fourth way is via the DJI Goggles 3 & RC Motion 3 controller or FPV Remote Controller 3, for the ultimate immersive FPV drone flying experience
This budget friendly drone is seriously worth consideration, whether you’re looking for an entry level 4k drone or just want to add a subject tracking drone to your collection. It has some of the best drone image quality at this price point.
I hope this DJI Neo review for this DJI ultra light drone has been a useful drone tutorial. I really feel it’s one of the best drones for beginners & it’s been great fun sharing how to take off a drone from a hand.
Keep an eye out for DJI Flip drone leaks in 2025

Every DJI Neo beginner should watch this video. It's essential viewing.
Thanks for the extensive and well presented video for the DJI Neo. Just the ticket for those new to the Neo.
Very well done James❣️
I have never seen a better video that explains in such detail how to fly the DJI Neo. 👌

Thanks JoJo!
Great video! Very straightforward and informative!
Thanks, glad my DJI Neo video is helpful!
Very professional presentation. Thankyou. I was not aware of the POI feature. Very useful.
Thanks, glad the DJI Neo drone video is helpful!
The best video on the neo by miles. Thanks
Wow thanks, appreciate the kind words about my DJI Neo review video!
Really good guide. Fast delivery. No repetition. Great!
Thanks, glad my DJI Neo review was helpful!
The Neo is like a Tello on HGH. It's really great that you can use it with or without a remote control. I've tested out all the modes myself. I had two kids, 6ys and 7ys, and operate the Neo from takeoff in their hand to landing in their hand in at least 4 modes each. After getting the hang of learning to keep themselves and their hands still for takeoff, they performed each mode easily.
I bought the DC-N3 remote controller for manual control, higher speeds (35mph), and a few more features, like gimble control. It will allow me to do a lot more things I already do with my Mini 3 Pro. The only thing I need to do is upgrade to the Mini 4 Pro to allow me to use the built-in screen remote control on the Neo. As the Mini 3 Pro controller isn't capable of connecting to the Neo and I wouldn't have had to buy another controller.
You don't really save space in your gear bag unless you're using the Neo without any RC and batteries with their charger. The predetermined modes as a standalone unit are fantastic. But if I'm going to bring the charger, batteries, and remote, I'd rather bring my Mini with its accessories instead. Their footprint in my gear bag is minimal, and it's a much quieter drone, which is what you want if you don't want the attention. I'd use the Neo for quick shots.
ive just got the neo i fly it alongside dji.s other fantastic budget drone the mini 2se. Many thanks for the video very informative and more than helpful on many counts
Absolutely GREAT review. Thanks!
Thanks, glad you like my DJI Neo review 🙂
Thank you for making this video. It is very transparent and logical. I saved it so I will be able for looking up stuff in the future 👍
Thanks, glad my DJI Neo review is helpful!
Thank you so much for such a great and inspiring video.
I’m intending to buy the NEO as my first drone (have watched your other superb and helpful videos on it and have liked and subscribed). But this one has really inspired me. Plus the heads up on the phone video software that you used - amazing to get those shots that are perfect for sharing with family).
Nostalgia see your MTB route and hearing your accent as agreed living 40y in Scotland we have just moved south to ‘the north’ to be near our ’kids’ but still have my eMTB active !
Very good though new goggles n3 are much cheaper. Some say decreasing sharpness improves images.
Good content and can understand easily....❤
Thanks, glad you like my DJI Neo drone review!
thanks for great guide! subbed

Great review. ❤

Excellent review... many thanks.
Thanks, glad you like my DJI Neo review :)
Thanks...First Class. Really easy to follow and learn how to fly DJI Neo, Keep it up.
Thanks!
Very comprehensive tutorial James, thank you. Can we still change the ‘mode of flying’? I fly mode 1 which is a rarity nowadays as everyone flies ‘mode 2’ I changed it on my mini 2, just hoping the software will be the same? Thanks again 👍
Thanks Pete, yes it's possible to change flying modes in the settings
Can you use dji mic 2 with RC3N3 controller to record audio in flight?
Good review, it would be interesting to compare 4K 30 and 1080 at 60. Thanks.
It's not really possible to compare different frame rates in videos, as the video is all reported as one frame rate, though I do show the difference in resolution in the video.
Good review!
Thanks!
My drone does not go to the flying screen after connection. It takes me to activation which has to happen with wifi (not connected to drone but with my router). After I activate, it once again takes me to connection guide and this keeps going in circles. What to do??

Our club would like to record private recreational club pickleball matches with a drone autonomously.
Do you recommend using the DJI NEO or flip?
If so, how would you set up the drone?
The DJI Neo has quite short recording times at around 15 minutes, so that might be something to consider. As for the DJI Flip, it'll be interesting to see what it's like when it's released next week!
Fantastic video mate !!
Thank you 😊 🙏
Thanks, glad my DJI Neo review was helpful!
RC-N3 -- Would love to go through your video however any hint on how to get a full screen on an android phone? Still have not managed this and my phone is set to auto rotate.
I'm not sure I follow. My phone's an android - Pixel 8 Pro - and it automatically goes full screen with the remote control, without the phone needing to have auto-rotate on. What phone do you have?
Samsung S20. I think it is still not connected to the rc-N3. Maybe the cable
Is this special mode to be followed in front of the neo ? Or just simply the follow mode ?
Which mode do you mean specifically? There's a follow mode where the Neo follows behind you and one where it follows in front and facing you.
OK so there's 2 different follow mode one behind and one in front then 😄
Great review, but a lot of info to take in, at a high rate. 👍
Play it at half speed 😉
“Connect the aircraft to the DJI app” this is what it yells at me when I try to launch it
I can’t download the dji app because even while using a VPN I still can’t access it in my country
With the circle and boomarang options, do you know if you have to be stationary for it to work, or can you walk and it circles around you walking?
I've tested it and unfortunately the DJI Neo doesn't follow you in Circle Mode if you walk away. It just sticks to a predetermined pattern that is set when you start the automated flght pattern.
Tried to fly with my phone app yesterday. It's very difficult to control from the phone.
Yeah it's a cool feature to have for the DJI Neo, but there's definitely not as much control as the standard RC-N3 remote control
Since you have a mini 4K, can you check if the neo works with the RC-N1C? I wanna see if I can get away with buying the bundle without the controller. Thanks!
I've had a look and it doesn't unfortunately
May l ask you that how to add time stamps on video and picture when recording video and taking picture?
You would do it in the settings
@LensOfJames please guide me step by step in the setting.
Actually looks like you can't do this with the DJI Neo
The propellers are not one for the front and one for the back. They are a clockwise and an anticlockwise because the propellers are paid diagonally.
Well spotted!
I cant even get it to change modes with the button.
A few things to try: make sure the battery has been charged fully, make sure the drone's turned on (via a short press then long press of the power button and LEDs on top will light up)
When you press the mode button on the drone does the voice tell you what mode it's in? Make sure you're holding the button long enough for it to do the countdown too.
If it's not doing any of that then definitely best to contact DJI support. Hope that helps! 🙂
I was considering using a Neo to survey my house roof. I AM within 2 miles of a light aircraft grass runway Aerodrome. Will the drone refuse to fly even at low levels in my garden, if it technically is inside a drone no fly zone?
There are different types of restrictions so it depends what zone you're in. Sometimes there's a button on the screen to press to say you take full responsibility for flying within a particular zone. Have a look at the Drone Assist app which has all the latest restrictions on see your local area.
@@LensOfJamesI know I am a red zone. I am not very close by and I am in an ordinary residentialarea. I would be happy to take responsibility as it would only be below tree height. The question is whether the drone can REFUSE to fly at all in some cases. Much less useful to survey my roof in that scenario.
From the DJI website: "DJI UAVs cannot takeoff in Restricted Zones. When a UAV flies near the boundary of a Restricted Zone, it will automatically decelerate and hover in place."
Can i use the usbc to usbc to replace the usbc to lighting cabble???.. or i had to buy a new one~~??
Because IM using Samsung phone
Yes, there's a usb-c to usb-c cable included specifically for Android phones. I have a Google Pixel and use that cable
No record in FPV mode😢
No sadly not, not without the headset and controller
Why wont mine hookup with drone, I've tried a dozen times
Are you trying to connect the neo to the app or the remote control?
I can't download apps in my android
I have an android so it's definitely possible. Have you tried downloading it from the DJI website?
I found a TH-cam video to help me download it
10km???
Yes, when the DJI Neo is paired with the rc-n3 remote control it has a maximum transmission range of 10 km. That said, you probably wouldn't want to fly it that far, but it definitely makes the signal better if you're flying in built-up areas.
Lol, it's battery at best will get a max of 2.5km if you want your drone back or 5km one way!
Very true, though having a strong transmission range is good for flying in built-up areas, not just long distances.
"The remote control requires a phone to be connected to it". The phone is a good idea, but is not required.
Good point!
A phone is required because mine won't do anything without hooking up with the phone. I can't get mine to hookup.
I've tried it several times to fly my new neo with a phone, but it would never fit in the controller. Apart from that, the cord in the hall just isn't long enough. Can anyone tell me what to do? 😂
What phone do you have?
@@MsUrsl Does it look like this? th-cam.com/users/shortsWY_cqYzSwgI
Mine wont find the damn thing.
Are you trying to connect the neo to the app or the remote control?
The phone is needed
Can this Neo drone be used to do birthday parties wedding. Regards Sunjith
Hi Sunjith, I don't see why you can't use a DJI Neo for filming at a wedding :)
Where do I please go to down load the app for this dji neo ?
Thanks glen
Google 'DJI Fly App' and download it from the DJI website :)
Is it possible to take neo drone off from the ground ?
Yes the DJI Neo I'll take off from the ground too
@LensOfJames ok thanks
Also do I need to download app for my new dji neo to fly it ?
Iv got rc3 controller btw
Thanks mate 👍
You can fly it from your hand without the app, however if you want to fly it with any other method mentioned in the video then you'll need the app :)
