I remember getting Superman 64... My mom threw at me, OUT OF NOWHERE, that I could actually buy a video game. I remember looking at that game and thinking, “he can fly, it’s got to be good!” That thought went through my pre-pubescent mind. I think I played it for 30 minutes-that’s it. Considering how hard it was to get video games as a kid, that’s really saying something.
Some of my best memories are playing Monster Truck Madness 64 with my brother. We'd just go off course and come up with stories. It was basically our GTA.
I used to play Monster Truck Madness as a kid! It had a lot of really cool side modes like Soccer and Hockey where you had to knock around a giant ball or puck into the goal. There was also King of the Hill where you had to push each other off a central platform and a mode where one player was a chicken and you had to chase them around. The multi-player was rad in that game.
I remember reading a review of Superman 64 in an unofficial N64 dedicated magazine (who btw are notorious for two controversies, pretty easy to guess who they are from that if you know who I'm talking about ;) ) where the reviewer couldn't make it past the level with superman flying through the rings so he just gave up and based his review on that section of the game alone, called it an unplayable mess and gave it a 0/100, the lowest score that Magazine ever gave a game on the system. Now this was in the late 90s when game journalists were actual qualified journalists and were actually employed because they are passionate gamers as opposed to journalists who are not gamers, simply looking to get a job as a springboard to the careers they actually want like today. So the guy reviewing it actually knew what he was doing and still struggled. He also mentioned in the review 4 other people in the office that day tried to help him get past it and they failed in their attempts too, so it wasn't for a lack of trying.
I mean really, where did they go? Did they ever give an update as to when vids are back? If so, why haven't they posted it to here? I wouldn't want the main channel to go the way of DYKFood. At least try selling it (or a share of it) to someone else who'd make new content for it weekly, I say. I personally find The Game Theorists as a good first choice to bring an offer to, given their credibility in uploading weekly content for their channels. Not to mention their new food channel, who's team could also work on new DYKFood videos.
Sorry for the tangent, stranger on the Internet. Just wanted to bump this up, but don't have multiple accounts to add more likes to it. Hope you understand.
I actually liked Subzero Mythologies. I thought the wonkiness of using MK controls in a platformer was a neat novelty. The cut scenes were so cheesy that reading it in text is actually better. Imagine a Street Fighter platformer with Ryu having a "turn around" button. lol
I actually really liked Monster Truck Madness 64. The mini games (especially the wrestling one) and powerups were great and the difficult controls were pretty much a hallmark of the series, even on PC.
Correction: Interplay didn't develop the first Earthworm Jim game, nor publish it until later on when they bought the rights to it. The first game was developed by Shiny Entertainment and original published by Playmates Interactive Entertainment.

Out of all the games shown here, it confuses me as to why Clay Fighter was amongst them. Just because the game had an unexpectedly troubled development doesn’t mean the game ITSELF it’s bad. If anything, it still looks pretty fun to play through to this very day.
Monster Truck Madness 64 is that game I rented once as a toddler and forgot it existed. It makes sense now why that was the case. Also I find Avalanche studios making the Sub--Zero spinoff quite amusing, much like Treasure developing WarioWorld.
Interesting interviewsc but I had to turn the volume down so low I couldn’t hear the background music. The music was a confusing choice. Happy New Years!

@@cxx23 Yessss thank you for replying, and also reminding me of more of the things that made me like the game. The open ended nature you could explore in that game was definitely something that made it stand out.
For Superman on the Nintendo 64 on one hand I do blame the DC management for making the game development difficult for the developers. But I do blame the game developers because even if they could develop the game how they wanted it would have still been a bad game. Why do I say this? Example of bad games with bad controls/plot from Titas; Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Carmageddon, Top Gun (PS2), and Robocop (Xbox). So in all fairness the Nintendo 64 version of Superman would haven't been as good as they wanted with the Tomb Raider mindset they visioned.
Dude I legitimately love South Park Rally, that game is fun as hell and I don't care what anybody says. I'm glad you used music from the game for this video, it's super nostalgic for me. Chef's Luv Shack was a lot of fun, too. The PlayStation versions of these games are far weaker due to the lack of four players, though, and the PS version of CLS even has content missing that the 64 version had. Even if the 64 version had long load times and missing dialogue, the PS version completely lacked some actual gameplay bits, like certain minigames.
fake fact to share: in mario party 1, you can break your finger. nintendo confirms it was a glitch so they patched on the mario party the top 100 3ds game.
So true story. I used to own and play Superman 64. And guess what? I'm still alive to this day and actually really liked it, but mostly because I was a poor kid with only 5 games and it was my first "open world"-ish game.

11:26 That magazine is called 'Power Unlimited'. It's still around.
OMG, I'd blocked Clayfighters from my memory, but now I remember having fun with this game as a kid!
Some of my best memories are playing Monster Truck Madness 64 with my brother.
We'd just go off course and come up with stories. It was basically our GTA.
"super mario 64 and zelda ocarina of time remain revered classics" majoras mask will remember this.
Superman 64 was the FIRST 3D/N64 game I ever played. I thought it was too hard for me but then realized it was unplayable years later!
The funniest part is, if all of the requests from WB were in Superman 64, it would probably be an even worse game
Hope you understand.
whats the magazine? (its power unlimited lol)
It always make me sad whenever I hear about so many movies and video games that could've been dope be ruined because producers believe they know best.
For anyone wondering. The song at the end of the video is from Blast Corps. World Screen.
Imagine having to find proof that Superman can swim.
I had to do a doubletake at the song at the end of the video. Freakin Blast Corps level select music.
Damn Carmageddon 64 was bad? Was very young when I played, but I remember enjoying it back in the day.
Correction: Interplay didn't develop the first Earthworm Jim game, nor publish it until later on when they bought the rights to it. The first game was developed by Shiny Entertainment and original published by Playmates Interactive Entertainment.
ahhh Shiny Entertainment, MDK was cool. What's Shiny up to these days?
The worst N64 game I've played was Bugs Life. It's also the worst birthday gift I ever received.
I would have swiped a copy of Sculptor's Cut from Blockbuster if I had known that 20 years later it would be worth thousands of dollars.
3:03 should've edited the Batman V Superman poster slowly creeping up in the corner of the screen 😂
Clay Figthers 63 1/2 is a good parody of Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinc.
Can you imagine that Asian dude being in a game today? lol
I really liked Monster Truck Madness 64. I loved the football 4 player mode and didn't think the trucks handled badly at all. Just took a bit of getting used to.
if WB dont get superman then thers a problem cause superman can. swim for godsakes WB publish every man of film steal where kal el when in the 1st movie he went under water to save a schoolbus he punch zod through a tower he went through a bulding in the justice lauge cartoon superman is a villain as well hello u worte bloddy injustice
Blast Corps outro music sent me flashing back to the past, but I didn't see the game in this video!
Makes it all the more frustrating that games are still getting rushed out the door to this day, even though it's always been a primary cause of flops and stinkers
Thumbnail image giving me “look tomar its YOU!”
Please make a series out of this! Getting the reasons why the most infamously terrible games on each platform were so bad
"Superman can't destroy buildings!"
14 years later, Man of Steel.
Which is exactly one of the reasons why Man of Steel sucked.
@@NerdHerdForLife really box office??? are we seriously going back to the "if it makes money it means it's good"???
0:09 350 games?? That’s a pretty low number for a console.
Mayor Superman could have been a pretty cool game. Imagine Sim City where Superman personally oversees disaster response. I'd like to see UFOs try to take my city.
I was so hyped for MK Mythologies Sub-Zero when it was announced, then when I got my hands on it, it was so frustrating and stiff.
That Blast Corps outro music tho
i forgot that game existed bro....when i heard the music my brain open an archive that wasn't touched in over a decade
I know, right? I came into the comments soley to see if anyone else picked it out.

Sadly, most licensed games are just shovelware.

The Simpsons Hit And Run & Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom: Wanna Say That Again >:)?
I really liked MK Mythologies gameplay was definitely bad. But the atmosphere and music had me coming back over the years.
What's the song used during the end slate? It is stuck in my brain and I know I know what game it is from lol but I can't for the life of me figure it out
Answered in many other comments: Blast Corps.
Tl;dr, let people make the games they want at their own pace; screw corporate executives and crunch.
"Capitalism breeds innovation!"
The innovation:
1:02 I want to read this article but cant find the link for it in the description
Western game development and design until the mid-2000s is rough.
The outro music is from Blast Corps, in case anyone is going crazy because they can't place it like I was lol
I think it's so ironic that they didn't let Superman interact with destructable environment because he "can't act like a bad person" yet now Superman pretty much is a murderous monster in every single game or movie they make, he's more Homelander than Superman nowadays. My, how the mighty have fallen.
Also, with most superheroes, collateral damage is unavoidable. Imagine a good modern game where you could throw an enemy into a building and see the whole building fall apart and collapse on the enemy (kinda like what Crackdown 3 promised with 'The Power of the Cloud' on XBONE).
it sounds like Warner Brothers wanted Titus software to fail we really need new superman game
We really do.
Titus sucked even in the 16 bit era.
@@caucasoidape8838 a good game could come from anywhere; so i think it might have been decent without the interference
You need the rough to appreciate the smooth
Well said.
Fair Enough.
I remembered buying the sub zero game as a kid, thinking: “wow this sounds like an amazing game”, then taking it home saying: “wow, this is a horrible game”
whats the song at the very end??? its SO familiar. it it from jet force gemini??

3:01 Pre Man of Steel Superman.
11:29 That magazine is called Power Unlimited
Man I had such low standards as a kid. I used to ABSOLUTELY LOVE both South Park games, the FPS one and the racing one.
I used to ignore completely the racing aspect and pretend I was playing an open world driving game splitscreen alongside my bother.
Yoooo whats the final song played? Time to get moving... I know its from an N64 game...
Answered in many other comments: Blast Corps.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero was a tough game to play and get used to. Like, why tf would you make pressing a button to turn to the left or right.
I actually really liked Monster Truck Madness 64. Was one of the first games I got on 64 after Mario 64 and Mario Kart
Germany at that time censored so many games, it was ridiculous
11:40 (for example) not Avalanche Studios, Avalanche Software. There's a difference. Software is not related to Studios. Avalanche Studios are the people behind, for example, the Just Cause series.
Wait. People didn't like Monster Truck Madness 64? I remember loving that game as a kid hahaha.
The soccer mini-game in it was a blast with 4 people.
Whaaaat I remember enjoying Carmageddon 64 as well hahahaha.
I actually own that one, so I'll have to give it a spin and see where it lines up for me now.
Me and my brother would play MTM64 all damn day.
It was a blast and at that point it was the only driving game that felt so heavy and realistic to us.
We would start a race, and then just do whatever we wanted. We'd make up stories and shit. The soccer was fun as hell too.
I was always the Hitman truck, and he'd be the police truck.
Sorry about the long comment, I was excited to see someone who enjoyed this apparently "bad game".
@@cxx23 Yessss thank you for replying, and also reminding me of more of the things that made me like the game. The open ended nature you could explore in that game was definitely something that made it stand out.
Time to get moving! Man, they need to re-release Blast Corps again.
Sim City Superman? That’s some 90’s cocain boardroom sh**
Idk if it’s just nostalgia but I loved South Park: Chef’s Luv Shack growing up
fake fact to share: in mario party 1, you can break your finger. nintendo confirms it was a glitch so they patched on the mario party the top 100 3ds game.
So true story. I used to own and play Superman 64. And guess what?
I'm still alive to this day and actually really liked it, but mostly because I was a poor kid with only 5 games and it was my first "open world"-ish game.
