Great info Tom, you covered quite a bit, and I especially liked the tidbits toward the end regarding clamping location and adjustments. Thanks for the upload.
Tips: get a 6” stone adapter from Hapstone, with you can use any 1x6 stone From cheap china to best on market. Going with this a knife clamp from KakBritva, both specially made for this sharpening system.
Exactly what I came to the comments to say. Just with the Hapstone stone holder upgrade and an angle finder like a $20 Klein from Home Depot takes this sharpener to the next level and easily rivals set ups at five times the price
Ooh i'm worried the abrasive side wills cratch and damage the magnet and the holder tho, maybe i'll just put one on the ceramic one! that's a smart idea tho! Which one should I go with if i'm only using one lapping film? do they just affect appearances or do they affect sharpness too?
I'd recommend a 3000 grit lapping film, you can cut your own out from these sheets www.sharpeningsupplies.com/collections/abrasives/products/adhesive-backed-lapping-film?variant=48626791416110 or use the Edge Pro polish tapes: www.sharpeningsupplies.com/collections/edge-pro/products/edge-pro-polish-tapes
With regards to using the strop to find your bevel, wouldn’t the marker gum up the strop? I mean, I use a marker myself, but I use the ceramic plate or whatever the finest grit plate I have
@@SharpeningSupplies hey thanks for the reply! I know this is an older video but let me tell you it’s an oldie but goodie. I’m always late to the party but I started with the original Precision Adjust about 2 months ago, just the base model, and I got outstanding results with that. Then I bought the upgrade kit for that and boy that was fantastic! Two weeks ago, I grabbed a Pro Precision Adjust and it’s a great sharpener! At least for me anyway, but I’ll be honest with you, still use the original precision adjust quite often as well. It’s just two quick and easy to set up and breakdown compared to the bigger unit. That’s a great little unit especially for $60. Can’t go wrong with Work Sharp’s products they’re fantastic for the price point. And thanks for putting out some great videos!
The base model is still great, and with the upgrade kit you're working with the exact same abrasives as the Pro. I've also got both, but the digital angle guide keeps me coming back to the Pro.
@@SharpeningSupplies I do like the digital angle guide I’m not gonna lie. And cool little factoid, the plates from the Guided Sharpening System and the Benchstone Sharpener fit the Pro. They’ve just a little wider than the Pro plates, but they fit! I have the Guided Sharpening System with the upgrade kit, and last year Work Sharp had a sale so I picked up extra plates for that system. So I have a ton of extra plates for the Pro!
I did the test on the bevel with a marker. One side it shows correct angle, but how come when i flip it around to the other side. The angle on the bevel is off ?
@@SharpeningSupplies i am very new to the art of steel sharpening and it does seem like every knife i have encountered on my worksharp precision pro appears to be uneven. Thank you for confirming. I wanted to make sure before i really began to even the bevel on my Spyderco Para3. Thanks.
@@91kitson90 Have a look at both bevels before you sharpen. If one looks wider than the other, they're uneven. I'd also double check to make sure you're setting everything up correct. We've got more videos on our channel for the Precision Pro, and Work Sharp have excellent videos on their channel too.
Is it just me or do the edges end up being a little different when sharpening a SAK? Like one side will be higher than the other when sharpening the blade…
Interesting, I haven't noticed that, but I also haven't done a lot of sharpening on a SAK in the Professional Precision Adjust. It could be an issue with how you're clamping the knife, but without more information, or doing more testing myself, it's hard to say.
@@SharpeningSupplies So I use the small knife table when sharpening my SAK, and I use a 16° angle. When doing so, I consistently get one side of the blade that looks like it has a longer bevel. Both sides come out to the same angle. It could be because of the way the blade is made to fit into the knife with the other blades in there. But I haven’t seen anyone mention it, so I’ve been looking around to see if anyone might have had a similar result.
Hopefully someone that's done more SAK sharpening can weigh in. Otherwise you could drop a comment on the Work Sharp channel. They're pretty responsive too.
What thinking of one of these but it just looks cheap and tacky and no doubt made in china. Gone for a KMFS Vantaedge instead, which just oozes quality. Night and day difference.

@@Stolas1777 I see an all metal and advanced version, any advice on which is better?
Learned something new today thanks my man.
Great tips - thanks.
Superb video. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
First time for first comment. Woohoo. I’ll see myself out
Please do😂

They are abrasive, so they will affect sharpness too.
Good tip about,,the tip.Thats bugged me since i got this system.I upgraded to 4" venev stones and it works great.
Can you possibly explain what you mean here? How did you mount these "venev" stones to the work sharp device?

I haven't found that to be the case, but as you've said, using the ceramic plate or the 800 grit would also work great.

If this is the first time sharpening this knife it could be that the factory bevels weren't even to begin with.
