For sharpening angles: Kitchen knives use finer angles for slicing and detailed trimming, usually between 15 and 18 degrees. Pocket knives are usually between 17 and 25 degrees making them a bit more sturdy and holding up to a day's work. Outdoor camping and bush crafting blades are usually 25 to 35 degrees.
I have the Worksharp Ken Onion Series. It is not perfect but I can put a serious edge on most knives, even damaged blades.
You are the best, can I come over to your house and get lessons from you, I think you are the best person to teach me how to sharpen my knives, 🍴 I am joking of course lol 😂 but I enjoy your videos greatly thank you 🙏 very much I am going to get one.❤
Merry Christmas 🎁 and Happy New Year to you Melissa!
Wouldn’t u go away from the blade first?
Would liked to have seen the knife’s sharpness value when you were done; compared to the beginning of the video
Thank you on taking the time to demonstrate your new sharpener! That was very clear and I love the magnetic feature to help stabilize your knives as well!
Tip for those interested in whetstones. I find it way easier to hold the angle consistent with a decent size knife with a wider blade (like a cheap kitchen knife). Once I got good at that it was much easier to do smaller knives.
For me that was exactly the opposite.)
Great job at a good overview of the system. I own one and for the money you can not beat it. I own several other work sharp systems and this one is the most thorough, consistent, and easy to use. Definitely a recommended buy. Thanks for the good overview Melissa.
Thank you Melissa ! 🌷you have now convinced me that this is the sharpening system i shall get, great unboxing & review.
Love your videos😎 & keep up the great work.👍
Thank you Melissa!! I've been wanting one of these, now I gotta get one. Your demonstration was top notch. Love from Texas. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great system. Thank you for making your step by step so easy to follow. Definitely shows how that system simplifies everything.
I literally have this in my cart right now, and have been hesitant to pull the trigger. Thank you.
Thank you so much Melissa for demonstrating.
I am so glad it has the finishing strop. I have several other sharpeners I hate them all !!! I'm getting this one.❤
Thanks Melissa, I'll be getting this sharpening system after watching your demonstration! It's really super easy to use! You're my girl when it comes to knives! Thanks! 🤔🥰👍
That is so awesome to hear, if you are in the market they are $50 off right now. I put the affiliate link in my top pinned comment along with the description 😊
Thanks Melissa for showing how to use this sharpening system 😍
Excellent demonstration, thank you for your time. I will be getting mine. Can't wait 😊😊
You rock sister! Great content! I'm not worried about your lighting. Thank you ✌️
I cannot imagine a better way to present this device, and I am certain the manufacturers through this have gained many interested buyers.
I would love to have one of those. I’d be more than stoked to have the earlier version. Maybe one day. Dope video!🤘
I put this one on my Christmas list. I definitely want it but don’t want to pay. So my wife might buy it, then I’m forced to pay anyway.
You should show this clip to your wife why u need this. She for sure understand why u need one.
You can find instructions for 3d printed versions online that might not cost you as much.
But in the end you get what you want 😎👌🏻
4:24 That’s what I did with the angle finder at first, but actually, it slots on right at the start of the sharpening rod, there’s a bit on the grey articulated joint that the rod screws into, that the angle finder will sit on securely. You’re welcome!😁
It really is a marvellous sharpening system, I’ve tried them all but this is one of the few that can produce easily repeatable results without having to basically make a new edge profile because you can’t repeat the exact profile angle.
Fantastic tutorial on something I have been so scared to do. I’m always afraid I’ll ruin the blade. You made me feel more comfortable in maybe trying to sharpen my own one day.
Thanks for showcasing work sharp knife sharpening system .
You did such a great job of showing this I had to buy one and wow you are right!! It works awesome!!!
Keep doing what you are doing !!
I have also bought 3 knives you highlighted.
Thank You!!
that's really awesome! thank you. I am always not wanting to damage the beautiful factory edge that comes on most of my knives! I recently got into sharpening my axes and hatchets this past summer. I was just clamping them to my picnic table and using a 'bastard file' and then a stone. File does most of the work. but I would never do that on my woods knives!
Very nice system. Excellent job on explaining the system. Very informative video
That a slick tool that works very well ! Thanks for this one !
You make it look so easy!
Thanks for your review and demonstration!
Lansky has had a similar system for decades.
This system seems to be much easier to set up. The Lasky's have diamon sharpeners.
Plus they are more portable. And much more affordable.
The number of passes is a place to start. But you must visually inspect to see if both sides are even or if you need to adjust for high spots on either edge.
Also you need to take into account what type of grind the blade has. i.e. concave, beveled etc.
Best infomercial I've seen today👍🏽
I have the original. Bought an angle adjustors separately. It works fine and is so much easier than trying to keep a consistent angle.
Very interesting video. And I always thought I should use the usual kitchen knife sharpening tool.
The worksharp precision adjust elite was what got my sharpening skills on the right track.
Same 😂
Melissa, good information as always. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I've got the Work Sharp knife and tool sharpener. It's great for my tomahawks and scissors, which I'll keep using it for. But, I like that the one you demonstrated doesn't need electricity. I think I'll have to get one too. Oh, and don't worry about the lighting, it was fine, except for being in your eyes.
MB,Looks like a pretty good system.A sharpener I think you might also really enjoy for keeping your knives tuned up is the spyderco sharpmaker, not really so good for reprofiling a knife although you can with additional stones, but a great tool for keeping knives shaving sharp
I use to have one of those way on back its really purdy good i however find myself attracted to the one i saw where u lean your blade edge up against an angled piece of wood and block it with a flat piece then roll a cylinder with the grinding surface at each end along the blade edge its really cool
Great demonstration! Thank you!
I love to watch your videos. They’re very informative and I think you’re doing awesome job. Thank you for everything that you were doing and showing. I appreciate it so much. I have a lot of knives that I need to sharpen. I use a whetstone and it does take a while lol.😂❤
I have a few systems. The WorkSharp WS3000, Worksharp KenOnion edition with blade grinder attachment and a Wicked Edge with 7 or 8 pairs of stones. They're all very different and I use them depending on what I'm sharpening and it's purpose.
Great video. Excellent product!!!
That sharpener looks perfect 😊
thank you for making this video, extremely helpful!
I got this sharpener a couple of months ago and love it!
These things are awesome!!
I've been looking at getting one of those! Looks like a great tool! Have a wonderful day!
They have it $50 off right now so now js the time. I threw an affiliate link in my description 😅
Love your videos 😎👍🏼
Great video - thank you!
Fixed angle system is the way to go imo . I was sold on it after trying . You should get the Hapstone holder for this system 👍 so you can use the Venev stones or any other stones . The diamond compound works well too imo .
You did a awesome job!
Great video as usual. Looking good and like your content. ❤
Muscle memory is the key to great sharpening. These guides mak it easy to achieve. IMHO.
Great little video. Love that sharpener. I use a whetstone, it does take time. I will think about this system, looks consistent.
Love COOKING 😊 , but I always have STRUGGLED 😮 , with SHAPENING KNIFES 😅 , this sharpening tool, looks simple enough, I think its great value for the money 😊...THANKS !!!
Great tutorial 😊. I've had mine for months but haven't even gotten it out of the box because my knives are all sharp, simple stropping handles it. I've even offered to sharpen for others just to play with my new toy lol
I have heard with consistent belt stropping continued sharpness can be obtained, a master blades Smith told me that when I first started getting into Knives!
@@MelissaBackwoods yes, if you use your knife appropriately 😆 which doesn't always happen
Good job. I really enjoyed your review.
Wow looks like a must have.
Valuable piece of kit...like an upgrade on the Lansky sharpener. This looks like it will last a lifetime
It’s very sturdy and I imagine it should! I’m extremely happy with it
You took the words right out of my mouth. It’s a big upgrade over the Lansky I have. Black Friday I ordered their other belt style sharpener this company makes. It’s a fast way to bring back blades but be careful it can take off metal fast. Good review.👍
Don't apologize for letting us see the sun shine into the most beautiful eyes in the world.
Great video. I use wet stones but you made me think about buying one of these.
Great instructional video!
Thanks for the video, Melissa. I bought one of these but haven't opened the box yet. Your demo is very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Good job Melissa.
This is the buy once cry once knife sharpener. Absolutely love mine. (Even though I have the more basic version)
I have the basic version as well that I enjoy. If youre in the market for this one- it’s $50 off today (affiliate link in my description)
I started practicing with cheap knives until I felt confident enough to try with more expensive and high end steels.
This systems seems to take care of that learning curve .
There is a definite learning curve, I just don’t have the patience for it 😂 this system really boosted my confidence with knife sharpening
I think it is better to adjust the angle after clamping the knife. The error introduced by doing it the other way round might be small, but as long as you are careful to avoid unwanted scratches, I cannot see any downsides.
You are 100% correct. I do this but filming had me all messed up with order. I’m pinning this so peeps see it. 😊
I also zero a scope after clamping it to my rifle, but that's just me.
@@MelissaBackwoods Now everyone is going to set their angle first and then insert the blade. Ha, I noticed this and thought that the edge of the blade is further out from the knife holder and is going to change ever so slightly. Maybe why it took you a little longer but when you go to resharpen that blade remember to do it the same way or it may take more time again to adjust. You could set your blade back in the the digital angle meter and remove it and see what the difference is when you go to the knife holder. I wonder what that difference is? I think I may purchase one of these. Seems to be the best option. I don't think it would work well with narrow fillet knives? Unless you can move the knife more forward? And you'd probably have to remove any studs on the blades depending on your angles. I also believe that you would want to center the blade to the knife holder or ever so slightly more away from the handle. So you don't hit the handle with the knife sharpener scaring it. Use a sharpie one the edge at first to see what your first few passes are on the blade and check your digital angle gauge as most don't know what exactly some blades angle degrees truly are. Have a great day!
@@MelissaBackwoodshi. Thank you so much for the video. Question. Do you have any recommendations on a tool that can tell you the actual angle your blade is on your knives.
Nice, kinda resembles a one side wicked edge system. I'm sure Melissa has seen their set-ups. I like the way you can pick the angle
Will miss Backwood You demonstrated that very well thank you for taking the time to do that and you have a merry Christmas young lady
I like the magnetic backing on the stones - genius.
The only problem with that is it binds you to only using their stones.
I’ve the precision system as well. it’s a great value. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. I have something similar however that system sets up very easily.
Bought one thx Melissa
❤Great review Melissa ❤😊
I have had so many knife sharpeners…. But my favorite is wet stones… the fact that wet stones require skill, patents and time.. I use no guides, and love the art of sharpening the blade to a hair cutting edge…. Then a coffee cup bottom honing.
It's all good. No judgment. Took me years to get it right .ore than once in a row. Do t give up. When the power goes out you need to now. You now what I mean. Love your show 😮😮
Thank you!
You did a good job on sharpening that knife 👍🏻🤘🏻
Excellant video very informative now im gonna buy it.
Nice… great demonstration.
That's supercool!
Love my worksharp. Do need to get some new stones for it, though. Think I may just opt for rhe pro set now. Good review
Awesome hair style!
Worksharp has some of the best systems for maintenance of blades. That could be set up for stripping an already good edge used that day.
knife sharpness is an obsession
This sharpener is my dream from the very first time i saw it... But its a dream in India .... Love it
I have the same kit. Works soo much better than the wicked edge
How awesome Melissa!
Thank you!
@@MelissaBackwoods thank you!
great video learned alot
Cool knife sharpener..might pick one up..
The hairstyle was the cutest..😉
Diggin this thing. Pretty cool.
Nice. I've been using a KME for the last couple years. It's been good for me.
You're the best I hate sharp knives too but I'm going to try this new unit that you're you're saying it works good God bless you
Placed an order on a different website before you published this video. Went back yesterday and today to see if black Friday / cyber Monday affected the pricing. I was wondering how come they were now out of stock while there wasn't special deals on those units. Well you've got about 14K views on this video so I don't even have to look further... Glad I got mine before the big rush.
You should definitely reach out to multiple places selling those and have affiliate links with them so at least you don't miss out on folks supporting your work when you're doing these product reviews and recommendation.
I have the work sharp and it is a nice device for the price, but I bought a TSPROF a while back and it is awesome. Don't apologize for the lighting - it really emphasizes your beautiful eyes.
You are awesome! Thank you! 🤜
Yor products are awesome!😁@@TSPROFSharpening
I think it may be best to strop tip to heel away from the blade, as it's the reverse of what you've been grinding against the edge with the stones. Keeps the edge teeth aligned. I'm no expert but it makes sense to me (If you get lost in the woods, sharpen your blade, someone will come out the woodwork to tell you you're doing it wrong!). I believe I learned that from someone more astute than me. Thanks for the vids!
Great video
Really Cool👍🏽
You sold me. Going over to Cabelas tomorrow and purchasing the Worksharp Precision adjust. Have the Worksharp Ken onion electric sharpener. I've screwed up a few knives with it. It look like it's easier to get a perfect 20%.
Hii, very good video. I own smaller one (without professional in name :) ) Exellent system! Very easy to use and results is superb!
Awesome video 😎👍🏼
Thanks for the visit
You’re welcome 😎👍🏼
I feel like worksharp is putting out some quality stuff. I’ve got the Ken Onion edition belt sharpener and love it, but it’s not an end all be all sharpener. I feel like this would be a good thing to add to my sharpening equipment.
Best fixed knife sharpener, you can get better stones, Being careful not to go past tip of knife, , just stop half way on tip to sstone, good tutorial
I really have to get one of these sharpening systems.
I’ve been using a KitchenIQ with angle adjust.
Word is Melissa sharpens all 400 of her knives each month to keep them all ready for backyard bushcraft adventures.
Great video.
Hi Melissa! They also do the sharpener using belts. Even quicker and so much fun to use too.
PS: light was superb, no worries at all 😊
They eat your steel like nobody’s business
Hopefully Work Sharp will release 1000-2000 grit plates in the future for this system. I need that mirror finish!
