I just got the notification today that my pro system has shipped! I'm excited. I'm not a huge knife guy but my knives have one job and if they can't do that they're a waste of everything. I've worn out 6 or 7 Lansky clamps over the decades, and I got pretty good with those, but having a system several steps above that is going to be great.
My wife just bought me one for Christmas and I love it, it's such great improvement over the old one and the old one was good for the money, if i could change anything about I'd like a little wider stones and some finer grits beyond 800, i also think they could have done better with the clamp, I would have liked to see a double clamping system like you see on the TS Prof, they could have had it snap in just the way it does but have it longer with bigger clamps, i feel like they could still use the plastic tightening wheels on each side to tighten it down, since you have more reach with the stones on this unit it would make sharpening larger knives easier and I feel they would clamp in better too, I know that would add to the price of the overall unit but they could always release something like that down the road, either way i still love it, maybe other people think those ideas are stupid. Just my thoughts and opinions
I recently got the bog standard basic precision adjust and for the most part very happy with results I get from it. I just cant justify the price difference with the new system unfortunately.
2:26 the stone holder/guide should be double or triple sided so you can just rotate it to different grits… may not be as comfortable to hold but it’d be faster than reattaching every grit change.
Jared I hope you publish videos when and if anyone makes an aftermarket attachment for non proprietary stones since you will likely find out way before the rest of us. Great video.
You're so right about the after markets with the precision adjust. I got the 4 inch hapstone holder and it opens up the system. Also, I bought the support piece for the jaw section. Do not overlook this. If you have a worksharp precision adjust, you need that support piece.
Recently, literally a week ago, I got precision adjust unit. Although I feel pretty confident doing the freehand sharpening, I felt this system might help me with the tiny pocket knives. Well, apart from the fact that is hard to sharpen those tiniest knives on a regular PA (which is addressed in the PA Pro), I was surprised how much practice and skill was STILL needed for this guided system. All things considered I am happy with it and at the same time can't wait when the PA Pro will be available in Poland, so I can grab it as well. Thanks for answering all the questions I could ever have and for including the pain points. Cheers!
this is the stone holder so you can use way better stones amzn.to/426zmZC you can find more stuff on that same site look for the clamp base, if its not there they have them on etsy
The Polish distributor of the Work Sharp products also sells simple clamp base, which I got right away. For the stone holder I was able to find quite a few options, unfortunately rather expensive for what they are (mostly 3D printed plastic) or just unavailable to order to Poland (e.g. the stone holder from Gritomatic you linked below). Fortunately, like I mentioned, I feel pretty competent in freehand sharpening and this was enough to get pretty much all my pocket knives hair whittling sharp (with some help from various strops ;) ). Either way - thanks for taking the time to write actually helpful comment! I'm definitely staying around here for more of your videos :)
All my friends review the same knives Same flashlights and Same Sharpeners. Good thing I only follow a couple if you guys. I'd be broke. Love your expertise! Stay Sharp Sgt.SteveRet 🇺🇲
Thanks for the review! A couple of notes on the KME price comparison. As far as I know, the base for the KME is still extra, $25, and it only comes with four hones.
It looks great. I still suck at freehand so it’s worth it. Have a great weekend with the wife. Mine is acting like a Succubus today. She literally took about 4 years off my lifespan. Lol
For $300 they REALLY should have gone with the standard 1x6" stone instead of trying to "lock" people into their proprietary stones. Another big flaw IMO is the fact you still need the clamp brace. I bought a $100 sharpener from China (Toohr #3) that doesn't have that problem and has more features. We all know somebody is going to get badly cut trying to remove or replace the brace. You can buy the base precision adjust unit, a 6" stone holder and still have over $200 left over for new stones and accessories. I think that is going to be what a lot of sharpeners are going to be thinking because as you mentioned with a stone holder you are into it for $330~ and still need stones, at that price Tsprof starts looking VERY attractive, even more so since they will soon be introducing their newest entry level sharpener.
I am in the market for a new sharpening system, and I am curious what the new TSPROF entry level system is going to be, or called. Do you know yet? I was almost sold on buying a TSPROF Kadet Pro for $468... and it just seems like a much better built system than this Work Sharp for $300. I know I'll still have to add stones to that, but even if I just rode out the "Optimal Diamonds" until I saved up for some better ones, I think I'd be better off in the long run. I don't do any pro sharpening, just do ktichen knives for myself, pocket knives for friends and family and whatnot. So waiting on the entry level TSPROF if I can find some information, may be suitable as well.
QUESTIONs: I have always used Arkansas oil stones free hand and have no experience with using diamond. [1] Should oil be used with a diamond 'stone'? I am considering buying this system to use with my Wusthof Classic Ikon kitchen knives ( I would think powered belts could quickly ruin a good knife ). [2] Is this an excellent choice or should I consider something different to obtain an accurate razor edge with reasonable effort ? Oh yeah, nice informative video, thank you.
I’m happy with my original work sharp. After saying this I did get the 4” stones and holder plus a aftermarket support brace. I am going to get the 1200 grit. I do have to clean the strop and apply the jewelers compound. Otherwise this does have some mundane features I like but not enough to justify a purchase
I just ordered, Jared you’ve been very helpful in my quest for better blades. I am skilled with them, just.. never knew how to maintain. Kind of like the race at driver who doesn’t know anything other than how to drive 😂
Great review - I suspect a little two-sided tape and aftermarket stones will work just fine on this beast ... a bit of drilling and some rare earth magnets should cure the weak magnet thing ... would be pretty easy to set up a new rod and holder from some spare rod material laying around the workshop - a fun project for sure
Too late, already ordered the TSPROF kadet pro and coming Wednesday. Anyway I prefer the machined aluminum which should last a lifetime. One of those cry now than cry later. Enjoy your video, keep up the good work 👏
im gonna try this thing out. i been holding back on buying it because a few years ago i bought the ken onion belt sharpener everyone on TH-cam said was great, the thing was a total piece of crap i sent back inside 60 minutes of owning it.
I have the KME, worksharp still hasnt combined this with the belt system where you can move the belt side to side instead of stones. Then I might switch.
I would also guess that the way the clamp clips in, it allows for worksharp to introduce additional clamps. They could also make a rod and clamp that would take the other stones.
when u making a tips video for this? i just bought it and aside from basic knowledge on sharpening knives I really have no clue on the correct process.
I don't know brother these systems are monsters, I still get great results with my belt grinder attachment from work sharp especially cause I can go from pocket knives to swords...but I am practicing on diamond plates system you recommend...great job on the vid. dude
In cut testing the belt grinders did poorly over stones. But it is very easy to use. Especially for budget steels. It couldn't even sharpen my d2 knives though.
@@tacticalcenter8658 Can't argue the proficiency of stones, but I'm talking about versatility, I need a solution to sharpen all my blades including my big bowies and long swords, as well as my pocket folders. the belt grind attachment has served me well with screaming sharp edges. When you use the full range of belts and pay attention to detail the system works great.
Great video man! Thanks! I put a lotta money into my wicked edge system and I don’t why I kinda got fed up / bored with. I will give this badboy a try Indo have another worksharp tools arouns the house they do a solid job! 🤝👍✌️
Wondering if anyone knows if someone has came out with additional grit stones or an aftermarket rod assembly for the pro. Scoured the web and only found accessories for the original.
Great honest review. Bought the warthog multi edge just prior to this Work Sharp PA release and for the money I think the warthog was right choice. As its also portable and with a simple mod I can also use whet stones.
Work Sharp says the written degrees are just a guide. It can't always be 100% correct, as it changes with every different sized or shaped blade. Which is why they include the digital angle finder. The finder should give you the actual accurate angle.
Is there any reason why the video is blanked out (black screen) from about 3:17 to 3:32? It's when you are putting the extra large knife in the holder, I believe. Thanks again for your great review!
I have the precision adjust and to stop the wobble I put a board under the clamp it’s ten times better with something holding it just like the slider that goes under that clamp
If you are looking to become a professional sharpener you will probably find out that any manual hand operated sharpening systems will be to slow if you get in a decent amount of work. I outgrew my Wicked Edge In the first month I was open. That said it’s always nice to have multiple options to sharpen on but if your going to do it as a business this will get you started but expect you may outgrow it fast.
I just bought this thing. I have been sharpening about 6 cheap boning knives a week for work with my worksharp mk.2 and it took me forever to learn how to freehand with it to get them much sharper than the 20 degree angle. I just purchased some higher quality vg10 boning knives and am getting this sharpener so I can be more delicate to the material and tip when they come in. BTW i've watched most of ur videos (subscriber) and bought the WEN 1x30 and that angle guide. I need to get a good saw to follow ur guide on making the guide better but I don't like how it has the belt going against the edge with it but anyways I use it to fix my tips after I inevitably end up destroying the tip with the MK.2XD I am still a noob but once I do fix the angle guide on that 1x30 does that mean I could just make sure I have the same angle and then be able to cut down my time using this precision adjust since the 1x30 would do the initial heavy lifting?
@@TJBoogie you were able to buy this? For me the website says the servers crashed and they didn’t sell any and had to enter my email for info on when they get the issue fixed.
@@TJBoogie yes the 1x30 could reduce your time, but not sure if it would be worth going from the 1x30 to the Precision Adjust rather than just learning how to use the 1x30 from start to finish. Also my WEN I only use for ruff cleanup on a 120 cubitron belt then I go to my custom Variable speed 1x30s for final Sharpening its a huge help to have Variable speed. Unconverted 1x30 are very fast and hard to control If the knife you're working on was very dull or had lots of chips the 1x30 can be a huge time saver. If your using good belts and proper technique.. Sharpening is basically the same no matter what you're working on. I have gone from 1x30 to my Tormek but not my Wicked Edge as long as your using your 1x30 against the platen and not doing slack belt Sharpening which gives you a noticable convex edge it should work fine. Belt Sharpening if done on the slack part of the belt gives fat sides to the knife and if you went from a slack belt to a straight angle sharpener like the Percsion Adjust or a wicked Edge or a TS Proff you may run into hitting those fat sides. Continuous slack belt Sharpening creates bigger and bigger convex sides. This is also why I'm not a fan of convex edges on kitchen knives the convex sides can even make honing the knife difficult for chefs to touch up on a hone.. I teach my kitchen knife customers that when honing stops working that's when it's time to come see me most home user get around 1 years use if the maintain properly with a hone. Convex edges are good for EDC and hunting knives, machetes but not great in my opinion for Kitchen Knives
@@ALXSHARPEN I definitely plan on getting a full on setup eventually once I move out and will need to go back to your videos. I don't plan to become a professional but have gotten into sharpening because of working at the family restaurant. We currently pay for a knife sharpening service and if I could learn to efficiently sharpen quicker I wouldn't mind sharpening knives for other departments instead of just mine for the meat room. It would pay for itself since we pay $40 a month currently but my current method isn't too quick, I use the worksharp with 80 grit the first time sharpening and then 220 four passes each side slowly for the heat and then 320,800,1800 once each side and then 5k, 6k and 7k to hone and then use a smooth steel. They are quite sharp I would say sharper than out of the box. I don't touch the cutting board with them, I only skin out beef ball tips and I get about 3-4 hours of use with honing before they are are still sharp but not good enough where it slows me down so I switch it out. I do best when I can replicate what someone else is doing so if you could make videos on sharpening 6 inch semi-stiff curved boning knives it would be amazing, I've searched far and can't find any professional sharpeners doing those and that would be the main thing for me cause I did practice with the 1x30 but its hard to replicate an example of a larger knife glided across is and with the curve. I use the Mercer 6 inch curved and could send you one:) thanks for the reply😀
@@TJBoogie sorry I didn’t see this until now yes boning knives are a little more challenging than regular knives because of the design. I have a very specific way I like to do them and it’s one of the few knives I do edges trailing at least at the end which I always have to fix other poorly done jobs. I will definitely do a video showing my way of doing a boning knife. Now for me I am not a fan of edge trailing sharpening in general. It takes to long and the burrs a pain to remove. Edge leading is fast and in my opinion a better edge and I think if you practice it you will eventually love it. Also if making a 1x30 I prefer the HF over the Wen as you can put a custom motor on the Harbor Freight easy that is what really helps most sharpeners get control over their stroke by slowing down the machine. Stock machines are just to fast. I only used the Wen for ruff removal with a 120 or 180 Cubitron belt. They run pretty cool so the speeds not as much an issue but when you go to the Trizact belts that speeds to fast IMO and causes heat to build fast.
Yeah I'd say for anyone that can afford it, go w/ the Tsprof. As a designer/engineer, their(workshop) plastic block as a solution for the flexing issue makes me cringe.
I'd rather have a table system than a clamp system any day. So much more versatile with the various blade shapes and designs. Edge pro is excellent but some hapstone models are an upgrade over it. I'd never get a worksharp ever again. How much of that thing is plastic? I do have a ken onion grinder and regret it.
What if you need to sharpen a full hollow grind or a full flat ground blade? Does any system available have attachments or something where you can get those sharp?
if you go into my most recent videos to my hapstone link in the description, you will find a stone holder for your new system which will make your system even better as then you can use any stones you want
Nice system and a good upgrade from the original, like you said there will be aftermarket stone holders out for these in no time. Nice having the magnetic base for pen knives but a bit of a missed opportunity as they could have added scissor sharpening as well. Im quite happy with the original system, but I've invested in some aftermarket parts and stones to increase the quality of sharpening. Hard to choose between this one and ther other ones on the market when looking at the price tag as there are great systems in this price range. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Very nice video Jerad. I will definitely be picking one of these up. The only thing that I want to add is that the tilt feature is also for when you're using the support base so you don't have to remove it to flip the knife.
Another well done video!! I like this system very much, the comps to tsprof is spot on, with thr kme ehh not so much. I had a kme back in day, and this blows it away. First you need mention that the jaws can accommodate 1/4 " spines, this is a big deal, kme can't. Then throw in the magnetized table, you have the best of both worlds in one system. I agree 100% after market stone carrier will make this a true beast and unleash its full potential. But with the current military conflict I'm finding it very difficult to get supplies from either tsprof or hapstone/ gritomatic and the later IMHO made thr best after market stone carrier for the original precision adjust. In closing, another well presented video.
I can actually get a Mirror Polish with this. Pretty easily. I was even able to get a Mirror Polish with the older version of this. Albeit, it takes a bit more stropping and a bit more ceramic action, but it’s definitely possible. From my experience. And this is NOT me flexing, I know for a god given fact you’re a FAR more experienced and superior knife sharpener. It’s not even close😂, I just thought I’d add some feedback to consider.
some of the others you spoke of for $700.00? Why not go all in then with a $880.00 Tormek T-8 Original - Water Cooled Sharpening System? you can do more than knives with it or is that system too hard to use? I do not own any of these so I am asking the professional. Thank You.
I can't wait for the fixed angle tips and tricks. I have something wrong with my hands where I shake really bad, so I can't free hand sharpen. Love your videos, bro! Been watching for quite a while.
I may have been just not used to it or I hadn’t got my technique down but it seemed to leave a pretty pronounced heel on my knives . I will say the edges were pretty good . I ended up giving it to a buddy in a trade for some old knives he had . I personally prefer the gatco sharpening system or my trusty dmt aligner for the most part as far as systems go but since I’ve mastered freehand on stones and sandpaper my systems di t see a lot of use anymore . Over all the worksharp is a good system especially at its price although it’s gone up in the last few years one could definitely do worse
Hi there Quick question what would you recommend to sharpen a ceramic stone with the work sharp pro. Thanks in advance, I shared your video with friends.
I have the kme now and use venev scorpion stones along with a few strops. I have since switched to a large paddle strop so if I can use my current stones with it then I will consider it once there are some aftermarket stone holder parts as mine are 4 inch stones for the kme
Great video as always. Love your content. Just some constructive feedback, it might be just me, but the background music was a little distracting in this one. Cheers.
Stoneholder already exists I have one for my precision adjust, unless the rod is a different size? EDIT : finished watching the video, well done neeves you didn't miss it. Well that sucks pretty not happy about this one from worksharp I would have definitely bought if I could use my dog stones
I'm not sure I like the price, but the fact that it has the magnetic holder for small knives is kind of a necessity for me because I mostly carry small 2 blade pen knives that a lot of people would consider too small. One of my all time favorite knives is the Buck 305 lancer which I currently have 6 variants of, and I've had trouble finding an adjustable guided system that works with them. They all use a clamp which is too big, and you'll just grind away at the clamp. Ideally I'd like to see some kind of very thin low profile clamp, but I still may have to consider this.

@@NeevesKnivesdoesn’t ship to the UK at the moment?
the old system for me is really really great
The Wicked Edge System has stone holders that will fit on the rod for this Work Sharp system. You can get 4 or 6” stone.
All my friends review the same knives
Same flashlights and Same Sharpeners.
Been waiting on this video and no better person to review this product. Look forward to the sharpening video .
Jared, I had bought the precision adjust elite. I had not opened so I returned it. Going to get the pro. Hope it’s worth the extra $180.
Just got one for 195 aftter taxes and discounts at sportsmans guide. Hope it works as well as ppl say it does.
I bought an adapter for other stones. Because i have a lot of higher grits.
Thanks for the video
Too late, already ordered the TSPROF kadet pro and coming Wednesday. Anyway I prefer the machined aluminum which should last a lifetime. One of those cry now than cry later. Enjoy your video, keep up the good work 👏
My question is is their really a need to shapen pen blades over a wider system to accomodate longer blades instead?
Thanks Jared for the video. I'm really excited to get this one.
Thank you for this video, I've got the old pro system and have thought about getting this one
Great review brother. $300 is a lot for that system. 😳
Looking for a guy like you to help teach me the ins and outs! Keep it coming.
Great tip on the tape to remove the metal shavings. I was going with an old paint brush.
im gonna try this thing out. i been holding back on buying it because a few years ago i bought the ken onion belt sharpener everyone on TH-cam said was great, the thing was a total piece of crap i sent back inside 60 minutes of owning it.
I have the KME, worksharp still hasnt combined this with the belt system where you can move the belt side to side instead of stones. Then I might switch.
300 is a lot wished it was at least 200 - 220 as max but for me I'll wait till see after market stuff for it then see.
I would assume the cost of the stones put it higher.
I would also guess that the way the clamp clips in, it allows for worksharp to introduce additional clamps. They could also make a rod and clamp that would take the other stones.
wow you answered every question that i had about it. well done .
when u making a tips video for this? i just bought it and aside from basic knowledge on sharpening knives I really have no clue on the correct process.
Need that tricks vid for sure. You’re a huge help. Are you lifting. Look bigger.
I’m looking to buy a wicked edge seems the most solid choice may I ask why your not digging it before I drop the $
Wondering if anyone knows if someone has came out with additional grit stones or an aftermarket rod assembly for the pro. Scoured the web and only found accessories for the original.
Great honest review. Bought the warthog multi edge just prior to this Work Sharp PA release and for the money I think the warthog was right choice. As its also portable and with a simple mod I can also use whet stones.
I bought one
Only thing I noticed is when I set the angle for 20 degrees and followed with electronic angle guide it was wY off
Yes I zeroed it out
Work Sharp says the written degrees are just a guide. It can't always be 100% correct, as it changes with every different sized or shaped blade. Which is why they include the digital angle finder. The finder should give you the actual accurate angle.
Would love to see your tips video. I always feel lost and I'm not doing it right. I have a Lansky
Good video man. Glad to see you. Thinking about getting one of these. My hands aren't what they used to be. Again good review and very good points. 😊
It's great if your having trouble with hands
Is there any reason why the video is blanked out (black screen) from about 3:17 to 3:32? It's when you are putting the extra large knife in the holder, I believe. Thanks again for your great review!
Wicked edge GO at $275 is a good mention as an alternative, imo. 👌
I have the precision adjust and to stop the wobble I put a board under the clamp it’s ten times better with something holding it just like the slider that goes under that clamp
For those that have this and the KME which do you prefer? I’m starting to think this new WS system is a cut above the KME now, thoughts?
I just bought this over the kme. The system just seems more well constructed.
I really like my low dollar version. Recurve stones would be nice.
Great video had been considering the original system for some time glad I waited. Does this system come with storage/case?
I need to get a good saw to follow ur guide on making the guide better but I don't like how it has the belt going against the edge with it but anyways I use it to fix my tips after I inevitably end up destroying the tip with the MK.2XD
I am still a noob but once I do fix the angle guide on that 1x30 does that mean I could just make sure I have the same angle and then be able to cut down my time using this precision adjust since the 1x30 would do the initial heavy lifting?
I use the Mercer 6 inch curved and could send you one:)
thanks for the reply😀
How long does these stones last?
Bro, this video is awesome. I love the new formula you've been using. A huge level up.
Most Japanese kitchen knives have between an 8 to 12 degree angle how can I use this sharpener to sharpen these knives?
This is what I imagined a pro-worksharp system would be! Sticking with my TSPROF but this looks very good! Great video, Jerad!
Which tsprof did you get? I have always wanted one
Yeah I'd say for anyone that can afford it, go w/ the Tsprof. As a designer/engineer, their(workshop) plastic block as a solution for the flexing issue makes me cringe.
@@BenjaminBrewer25 I have the Blitz 360.
Great video. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and found it VERY informative 👍
How thick of a knife would this unit be able to clamp on? And how long of a knife would it be able to sharp?
It's been a while since this came out, are aftermarket attachments available yet?
What if you need to sharpen a full hollow grind or a full flat ground blade? Does any system available have attachments or something where you can get those sharp?
I picked up the pro unit about a week ago. Like it over my old KME sharpener. I am hoping work sharp or someone else comes out with lapping films.
if you go into my most recent videos to my hapstone link in the description, you will find a stone holder for your new system which will make your system even better as then you can use any stones you want
How big of a knife can you sharpen with it? Will it handle victorinox 10" butcher knives? I cut meat for a living.
Hi! I want to buy that one, can you give me the link. Thank you
Nice system and a good upgrade from the original, like you said there will be aftermarket stone holders out for these in no time.
What are other systems in this range that are equivalent in features?
Thanks Jared, definitely thinking of buying this one 😎
What size knife do you feel this sharpener can accommodate? Thanks
From the looks of the stone attachment, I think we would soon see a lot of aftermarket stones and strops targeting the WS Pro PA.
some of the others you spoke of for $700.00? Why not go all in then with a $880.00 Tormek T-8 Original - Water Cooled Sharpening System? you can do more than knives with it or is that system too hard to use? I do not own any of these so I am asking the professional. Thank You.
What knife is that in the beginning when you demo the magnet system? I love small thin knives
Should I sell my tsprof kadet pro to buy this?
lol...
Will this system sharpen fillet knives?
I can't wait for the fixed angle tips and tricks. I have something wrong with my hands where I shake really bad, so I can't free hand sharpen. Love your videos, bro! Been watching for quite a while.
I was hoping you would check this one out. I really like the base for the small blades !!!
Great video...I'll save up for this system for sure
I may have been just not used to it or I hadn’t got my technique down but it seemed to leave a pretty pronounced heel on my knives . I will say the edges were pretty good . I ended up giving it to a buddy in a trade for some old knives he had . I personally prefer the gatco sharpening system or my trusty dmt aligner for the most part as far as systems go but since I’ve mastered freehand on stones and sandpaper my systems di t see a lot of use anymore . Over all the worksharp is a good system especially at its price although it’s gone up in the last few years one could definitely do worse
Do you recommend this sharpener for kitchen knives?
I want the old version, this one is far too expensive. Unfortunately the old one doesn't come with a strop attachment.
Would you recommend this for Japanese kitchen knives that have angles of 9-12 degrees?
Hi there
Quick question what would you recommend to sharpen a ceramic stone with the work sharp pro.
Cheers.
I love this, will definitely be trying to get
Stoneholder already exists I have one for my precision adjust, unless the rod is a different size?
Wicked edge might work
It is $250 on Amazon right now.
