The Bakersfield Woolworth's Luncheonette is the last one still open in the United States.

Oh Jordan a trip down memory lane. I used to go to Woolworth’s with my mom and we would have a tuna sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes with brown gravy at the dinette. Loved going back to when times were simpler. Thank you...

When I was a little boy, Woolworth's had a wig shop right by the front entrance. The windows were crammed with wigs. There, my mother would drop off her wigs which were mounted on styrafoam heads. They would style them for her and she'd pick them up a day or two later. 2nd Day Wigs. Same day if you were in good with the stylist.

Jordan, I was one of those who became pumped when I saw this! Lots of memories shopping at Woolworths as a child. There was a similar store called J.J. Newberrys that I remember too. I had no idea there was a store like this in Bakersfield. Can’t wait to go and would love to have lunch there. Thanks so much for today’s very fascinating vlog!!

Thanks for the time spent there and perhaps one day soon you two can enjoy lunch at the counter. Love ya ! p.s. Hi to Breck !

Wow Jordan, thanks for the memories! My grandparents used to take me once a month to the Woolworth's in our town in upstate NY. We'd always eat at the luncheonette where we'd have hot dogs with toasted grilled buns. I remember they also had an orange drink in a big glass machine that was always bubbling and "percolating"! Very cool memories....Thank you!

Thank all that is good that someone has kept all this in place. I'm bummed that I didn't know this existed when we vacationed out west this past fall. We had a Woolworths in the mall I worked at until the mid 90's. It had a luncheonette as well. Thanks for the upload & thanks to the owners of that amazing building & store. I wish I owned it!

WOW! This brought back so many wonderful childhood memories! My mother worked at Kress when she 19. She's 80 now. My grandpa used to take me to Woolworths for lunch! So many recognizable items I remember way back. Loved, loved, loved this! Can't thank you enough, Jordan! It's always great to see Breck. ❤❤❤

We had a Woolworth store in the tiny middle of nowhere town I grew up in...but, it closed in the early 90s. It was fun to see that luncheonette! Nice to see the old building actually being taken care of. We have LOTS of old historic buildings but most of them are in disarray.

That was great Jordan! Boy, I miss Woolworths. I used to go into my home town branch as a kid to buy packs of postage stamps from around the world. I would buy candy in there, before going to watch the matinee at the movies on a Saturday afternoon. Great memories.

The New York based FW Woolworth Company hadn’t trademarked their name in Australia, Percy decided to name his new shop the “Woolworths Stupendous Bargain Basement”. And it’s that store that became the Woolies we know today.

I'm glad we did, it brightened my mood and made me happy with the nostalgia that some people are keeping this historic building going. So many happy memories of Woolworth & SS Kresge. The inside is just like I remember them. The lunch counter was amazing . Thanks so much for going and documenting this for us all to see.

Was great to see the old Woolworths. I remember shopping at my local Woolworths for Christmas decorations. They had everything you needed, not just decorations but everything and every type of department: clothes, sheets, candy, sewing items, kitchen items, records, and a pet department. I noticed the restroom sign. When you visit old places like these it can be interesting to see the bathrooms. Some are really great, resorted, vintage bathrooms.

The Timeless Furnishings was at one time a regional chain of upscale department stores. There were three in Bakersfield at one time. And the large curved windowed building you passed on your way to Woolworth's was a JC Penney that probably still has the old elevator that had an operator who sat on a chair and turned a wheel and called out the floors. Bakersfield is a mecca for antique collectors or decorators as there are tons of antique stores - mostly in that general area of downtown.

It's Now or Never by Elvis. My favorite song back in 63. The garden metal chairs were popular back then. Use to sit on them. Woolworths was a regular place my mom and I would be every Saturday. Loved going to the small ones because I often saw things that I find nostalgic. It was a sad day for me when they closed. What a GREAT place you visited. I could be there for days . Awesome video Jordan. My wife and I remember when we were kids our mothers would take us there three or four times a month. That store was the Walmart of its time. You would buy everything from that store and before you went home you always had to get something from the Woolworth lunch counter usually ice cream or soda lol anyways today it's an antique store and I still go in there three or four times a year looking for fun stuff to buy😁😁😁😁😁 walking into that store takes me back 40 years.

I have great memories of Bakersfield in the 1950s. It was a wonderful place to be a kid. Lots of outdoor fun and very friendly and honest town. I returned some years later and discovered the Bakersfield sign had been moved after highway 99 was widened. The city gave it to Buck Owens and he restored it. It is now on Buck Owens Drive next to Crystal Palace.

Yes Jordan it does take me back to a simpler time. My mom used to park me and my twin sister at the lunch counter at Woolworths' with a drink and some fries while she shopped. She never worried about us because the people behind the counter knew who we were (neighbours) and they would watch out for us. The Metropolitan stores used to have a lunch counter similar to Woolworth's-do you remember that. So nostalgic thanks for sharing and as usual another fantastic vlog!

The Woolworth's that I remember well was in Keene, NH. In the 60's, they had an annual banana split special (I don't remember the exact month) in which balloons would be tied to a wire over the stools at the lunch counter. When you ordered a banana split, they would hand you a long stick with a pin on the end of it. You would then pop the balloon of your choice. A small strip of paper would flutter down with the price you had to pay. The regular price was 35 cents, so many of them read 34 cents. But there were also many nickel, dime, and yes, even 1 cent! I managed to snag a 1 cent banana split twice in one year in 1965!

When I initially saw the title of this vlog, I was immediately, like, "WHAT?!?!!?". The reason being that I was born and raised in Watertown, NY, where I eventually came back to, and this is where Mr. F. W. Woolworth opened his first Woolworth's store. It is also where the very last Woolworth's was that closed. He is buried with hs family in our Brookside Cemetery, and the original Woolworth Building where he started his five and dime store still stands in our Public Square. Just my two cents. :)

Been through but never stopped in Bakersfield. Only remember the Woolworths on Powel/Market in SF and dipped there the last years it was in operation. Do recall Newberrys and others but this lunch counter area was massive, cool decor! Loved seeing the building plus all the old toss aways that others regard as treasures. Fun vlog, worth a trip there just to check out & soak in the atmosphere, maybe even order a club sammy/fries and a coke. If you are ever further north check out Niles Canyon, Chaplin, Bronco Billy history and some more antique shops.😎Yay Jah!!!!

That's funny! Sally just sent out a picture of Woolworths a couple-three weeks ago on face book asking if we remembered Woolworths. I have fond memories of a high school friend who would drive us over to the Piqua Mall where we would shop around and have lunch at Woolworths. The food was great and the store had a little bit of everything and anything! Loved that store!
